This game is not as bad as people are making it out to be
Guys, I'm gonna be honest. This game is not as bad as people are making it out to be. I just got this game about 3 weeks ago, and I've been having a absolute blast with it. I think the main problem with some of the reviews on this site is this. If you go into PlayStation All Stars judging it against Super Smash Bros. Brawl, you will not be happy, and will always find faults with it. Now let me explain myself before you all jump at my throat. This game did have some faults, be it in the Characters, Levels, Supers, Arcade Mode, and other faults, but we all need to look again. This brings out another point of mine. We need to stop looking entirely at what PlayStation All Stars did wrong, and look a little more at what they did right. I will admit, I have played Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and I know first-hand just how fun and immensely great of a game it is. After all, it did come first, and it came from a series, unlike Playstation All Stars. Having said that, I do have respect for SSBB, as while I do not have it, I have played it multiple times, either by borrowing or at a friends' house. Now, I'm gonna try to be as honest as I can, comparing the two. Comparing their "Campaign modes", I would have to say that overall, SSBB wins. I loved Subspace Emissary. All Stars' Arcade Mode was alright, but not the greatest(cough cough, stills with voice-overs) I did like the end battle against Polygon Man though. Now, for those who don't know, Polygon Man's roots trace back to the Playstation 1, when he was planned to be the mascot for the first PlayStation in North America, appearing in ads and such. However, before the console was released, Ken Kutaragi, global head of Playstation, also known as "The Father of The PlayStation", expressed anger towards the Mascot of Polygon Man, therefore, he was "taken out into the car park and quietly shot." (Polygon Man that is) So, there are some back-stories behind this game. When it comes to the Multiplayer, that is where most of the hate comes from. I will say, that personally, in my opinion, the Super System was not as bad as people are making it out to be. It even added a strategic sense to the game in a way, which was the skill of knowing your character's supers, knowing where the enemies were, and knowing when to use them the right way. True, it IS incredibly annoying when you miss with your well earned level 2 or just don't get any kills with your level 3(but if you fail the latter, you're just plain bad, no offense.) It did add a strategic sense to the kill system. I do remember SSBB had a health system, in which the higher your percentage was, and the more you took damage, the farther you would fly back from subsequent attacks, and increasing your chances of being ko'd, or flying off the stage. I did like this method to kill system, but I will say that I also enjoyed All Star's different take on it, with the Supers. Because, I remember the intense times, as soon as that Smash Ball came on stage, shimmering and glowing, it was a all-out blood battle to get it, and release your ability. I loved that. All Stars took this "character ability", but made something cool out of it, by making 3 levels of the ability. True, some were DEFINITELY not as good as others. The Items in each game were also good in my opinion, although I think the really noticeable difference in items was that SSBB had "food" you could eat to regain some health I believe. However, there were some good items for each game, I especially love the Hammer in SSBB, and the abusive fan comes to mind too. I liked some items in All Stars, such as the Axe, and the Spear of Destiny. There were also complaints regarding the characters of All Stars. I agree, there were some disappointing characters, and some characters were not even PS exclusives. However, SSBB had one that rings clear in my mind, Snake. There may have been others. However, even some of the 3rd Party characters weren't that bad in All Stars, specifically Raiden, Big Daddy, and Dante. Upon looking it up, I found that All Stars has a total of 24 playable characters, counting the 4 DLC, while SSBB has 37. However, some of these characters were quite similar, such as Wolf and Fox, Kind Dedede and Kirby, and then Zero Suit Samus and Samus were the same character. And of course, All Stars had two Coles. However, I feel like all in all, All Stars did a better job than Brawl about making sure that the characters didn't fight too similar. And the attacks, wow, the attacks were really good for both games I must say, All Stars did a great job of making sure that no two characters fought exactly the same. With, of course, the exception of Evil Cole/Cole. And although the character roster for Brawl was great, I also liked some of the characters for All Stars, namely the classic characters like Dan and Spike, Sweet Tooth, and even PaRappa, going against some of the newer, more iconic characters, such as Nathan Drake, Kratos(who is incredibly OP) and even Sackboy(who I will admit is my personal favorite, I've mastered his moves). And as for the attacks, I felt that even though Brawl had more characters, thus more potential attacks, they also had one directional pad and one attack button(b). Meanwhile, All Stars had one left stick and 3 buttons for attacks, which I personally felt was very ingenious, just adding attack after attack after attack. True, some attacks kind of sucked, but the same could be said about Brawl. And the stages in All Stars really weren't that bad. True, I don't think there were as many in Brawl, BUT the stages in All Stars were mash-ups and dynamic stages, meaning that they would change into another game's stage, or elements from a game, while SSBB's stages did NOT I believe. I especially loved maps that blended together well, such as LittleBigPlanet/Buzz, I was personally glad to see Buzz in this game, Hades/Patapon, Fearless/Wipeout, Stowaways/Bioshock, and San Francisco/Ratchet and Clank. However, there were some maps that were just not as good as others, namely Dojo and perhaps Paris comes to mind, simply because it looked like they just slapped a few platforms on the screen and the Negativatron in the back of Paris, and Dojo was just a small room, which is good for just about only short range characters. I also heard complaints about the music being horrible. That's Bull people. The music, while not as great on a few maps, was awesome. A few maps come to mind. Black Rock Stadium, which included a Mashup of Twisted Metal/Jak and Daxter, Columbia, which was Bioshock/Twisted Metal, Dreamscape, which included LittleBigPlanet/Buzz, Fearless, another mashup of Heavenly Sword(Ah, Nariko)/Wipeout, Franzea, which was a mashup of LocoRoco/Metal Gear, the music sounded a bit childish, but that added to it, and the last two are Stowaways, which was Uncharted/Bioshock, and Rival Arena, which depended on which character you were playing as. And let me take a moment to talk about what All Stars did that Brawl didn't. One, Online play, which yes, is hard to find a match nowadays. Two, character costumes. There were some freaking AWESOME costumes for characters. Three, Character Customization, you could customize, on top of your costume/costume color, your intro, taunt, outro, and victory music. That was cool. Four, Player Customization. You could customize your Minion, Background, and Icon, which added a sense to distinguish yourself from the others. And 5, which was huge for me. Graphics. There is no doubt that PS All Stars had the greater graphics. This came in handy a lot, I liked looking close up at taunts, intros, and throwing opponents. And the gameplay was NOT CLUNKY. It was very smooth and linear. I also liked the Goals that you could do to level up your character. Now, some things that I hated about All Stars. It seemed like, when looking at the map selection, it just seems like so few maps. Makes it feel boring in a way. Arcade Mode, which sucked compared to Brawl's, but was interesting none the less. Overpowered, unpatched characters, namely Dante, Raiden, Kratos, Kat, and maybe Spike. I also hated how Santa Monica Studios were planning on releasing more dlc, but due to financial restrictions and being left by Sony were not able to continue. Blame Sony, not Santa Monica. So, with all that I said, above, I believe that they should make a sequel. Maybe not now, but later. And for goodness sake's Sony, actually put some great Characters in it! Crash Bandicoot, Joel, Ellie, Lara Croft, Snake, Ghost, come on, tons of others! If they could just try again and listen to the community, it would be a great game. That's all I'm saying guys. Look guys, I do respect Super Smash Bros Brawl. It did come first, and was, and still is one of the most iconic brawlers of all time. However, we need to go into this game not pitting it against Brawl. True, there were some things that Brawl did better/first, but this game was great. Definitely a massively under-rated game of the entire Sony franchise. This game is AWESOME.

It's multiplayer-filled fun, for a time!
It has a thoughtful roster. (Sadly, it feels rushed.) The gameplay is fun, and I would say it feels different than "SSB's". I have played it for months. My favorite characters are Dante, Evil Cole, Jak, and Sly. I ended up mastering the first (3) with practice. The gameplay was made, to have players create their own combos. (I'm serious!) I would recommend this, instead of the suggested combos, from the character tutorials. Characters could roll, and block. Some of the roster has characters, that could parry, or Sly, who turns invisible, instead of blocking. There are also cheap grab moves! The game itself, focuses of one-shot KO's. All players need to build their "Super" meter, and use it for a cool KO move. Supers are separated into (3) levels. All are best for certain situations. Players must build "AP" by attacking their opponents, so they could use a super. I would go and say, all characters have CHEAP abilities. That's just how it is. It might be frustrating at times, but its a game that will be fun, if you practice. Learn even by watching your teammates, or opponents. The stages are from many other (PlayStation) games. I find it a bit strange. This is how a stage works. You're in one place and all of a sudden, there are hazards, and the backgrounds change. It's another game setting intersecting the one in place. One of my favorites, is "Alden's Tower" from inFAMOUS, which goes to Sly's rooftops. (Clearly, its a Sucker Punch reference.) It's a strange, but fun feature. (Hey, even Patapon made it...) All of the backgrounds are animated well. There are 4 DLC characters, which are fine. I loved them, despite a couple feeling odd. If you of course purchase the PS3 version, you will get the digital VITA version for free! This is a great deal that can't be ignored, unless you don't own a PS3. One of the coolest features is the cross-play. PS3 and VITA players, could play matches with each other! So, grab your friends, and have some fun! Replay value: There's an arcade mode with a story, and each character rivals another. You have tons of multiplayer hours here. (I actually felt bored from the arcade mode. It's too easy, and slow.) I don't recommend this game, unless you love these characters, but also expect to spend lots of time in multiplayer. (That's local, or online! Yes, bots are included!) Aside from the gameplay, there are a great set of trophies here.

This is not smash bros and that is a good thing.
If you are looking at this game and say to yourself that it is just a smash bros. clone then you are dead wrong. First and most obvious difference between all stars and smash bros is how you kill your opponents. Killing your enemies requires you to use specials, which you build up by attacking your opponents and building your AP meter. This makes the game extremely strategic sometimes, as a level 1 might be a better option than a level 2 depending on the level and how many players you are going against. It also makes defense important because you don't want another player to get his level 3. Another major difference between all stars and smash bros. is its combo system. Each character has unique combos that they can execute and you can also experiment and make your own custom combos. Some characters such as Heihachi and Kratos have their combos from their original games. The Arcade mode is exactly what you expect from a fighting game, you fight your way up a ladder and then at the end you go against the boss. There are cut scenes when you fight your rival as well as some narration at the beginning and the end of the mode. The online is extremely well down and has the standards for a fighting game; icons, titles, leaderboards, and etc. There is minimal lag in some matches(greatly improved on beta), but most of the games play very well. In terms of balance there is no overwhelmingly powerful character and SuperBot will patch often to make sure that there aren't any. Pros: 1.Characters are completely unique from each other. 2.Deep combat system with a lot of hidden depth. 3.Graphics (especially vita) look great and run at 60fps. 4.Deep online mode with minimal lag. 5.Four players at once is a blast especially 2 vs 2 6.Special system is new and fresh. 7.Cool character selection that is growing with dlc(some free!) Cons 1. Presentation in menus are bland. 2. Some music tracks are great and some are kind of quiet. 3. Some moves are spammable specifically some of kratos' and sly coopers' moves.

A must-have Playstation exclusive
PS All-Stars Battle Royale for Playstation 3. This game pulls together characters from a large variety of games. If you have ever played the game "Super Smash Bros" imagine that, but with Playstation characters and other popular characters all together in a brawl in which you choose your character and battle. Every single character has their own storyline in which you are able to complete, with the last two fights being the character's rival, and then the All-Stars boss. This game features at least twenty different characters which can be leveled up, and customized. It also contains DLC packs for new characters. For the price you pay for this game whether $39.99 (current sale) or $59.99 it is well worth it, it also comes with a downloadable version of the game for the Playstation Vita, at no extra charge. I rated this five stars because it's well built, the graphics are great, each character has his/her own graphics from the game they came from, and the gameplay is smooth and does not lagg. I recommend this game if you're looking for a good-old arcade fighting game or if you just want a change in pace of games. If fighting/arcade games aren't your style, I wouldn't recommend this game to you, but don't get me wrong it's a spectacular game. Hope you enjoy this game as I do, happy shopping! (Edit: Sorry I forgot to mention the immersive multiplayer. There are a few different modes such as FFA 2v2 or team modes, the servers are either ranked or non-ranked depending if which one you choose. The game also features cross-play so if you have any buddies with PS Vitas playing this game, you can invite them to your party, team up with them or straight up brawl.)

A must have title for your PS3 software library
I'm a huge fan of Smash, and I admit I was really unsure about this game. After playing the beta I walked away thinking this game was not for me. That was largely because I kept comparing it to Smash. However, I decided to keep playing it, and the more I played the more I realized how much fun could be derived. I had a blast with friends. The strategy you have to employ here is totally different from Smash Bros., and in some ways the game is deeper too. So I per-ordered! (still waiting on my code from Amazon). I have NO regrets and this game is worth every penny. Added to that, we get two free DLC characters for 2 weeks sometime early next year. I got this game around 2 PM yesterday and I played it till 5 AM this morning. It is very addictive. I suggest people to give it a chance. Pick one character and focus on that character and ease into it. It's one of those games you have to play for sometime to really appreciate it. It also helps to not compare this game to Smash since this is a totally different beast and it is NOT a clone. IT is true, it was inspired by Smash Bros. and on a superficial level there are similarities on the exterior, but they are worlds apart when you analyze the core. Furthermore, this game was designed for hardcore fighters who want depth in their games and also for people who just want to pick up and play. Sony and Superbot are definitely going in the right direction with this and I cannot wait to see what they can do with the next installment. Now ... back to my tag team match with my buddies online. :)

Great Start For The Series. (Vita Game Download & Cross Play Instructions Below.)
I, like many of you, when first heard about this game, inmediately thought "Mash Bros", and so I had my doubts. And honestly speaking, the main reason I pre-ordered the game was the free Vita version...but all my doubts are now put to rest, this is a game that deserves a 5 star rating and well deserved. For starters, the game comes with a great roster, which includes: Kratos Parappa Fat Princess Sweet Tooth Radec Sly Cooper Nathan Drake Heihachi Dante Big Daddy Jak Ratchet Nariko Cole Evil Cole Raiden Sack Boy Sir Daniel Spike Toro The game comes with different modes that include, Solo Play, Tournament, Versus Match and character customization and extras. Stages are fully active, they come packed with hazards, items and explosions, some of which can really hurt you and your oponents. Each character has 3 stages of "special moves" which can be used, once the special move meter is full. Once full, you simply press the R2 button and the character will engage his/her special move. Each special move stage has its unique set of skills and will vary in power, 3 being the strongest of course. Graphics: Very sharp and bright with plenty of interactive arenas. Each stage/arena belongs to each of the characters game locations, for example, a flying cargo plane (Drake), God Of War, etc. Each level has been carefully detailed and playing is not only fun, but there's eye candy and plenty of it. Each character has also been done with great attention to detail, from sack boy to sly cooper to Raiden, all look well done. Explosions and other effects look great and will not disappoint. Sound: Again, each stage has sounds from each franchise. I personally like Uncharted's classic orchestra style and God Of War's dramatic score. Character voices are original and their sound effects, from weapons to special moves, sound great; even during heavy battles, you'll be able to hear each effect, music and other stage related sounds with detail and plenty of punch. Performance: I was afraid to run into frame rate issues, but thankfully, this isn't the case. Even with a full roster on screen at once, the game perfornmed impecably. There was no lag during online play or choppiness during local and single play. I tested the game with a full roster on a stage with plenty of action, such as background effects and incoming hazards; the game did not skip a beat. Multiplayer: Simply put. FUN with NO LAG. Both local and online, the MP section is flawless, connections are easily stablished and maintain a lag free performance. Up to 4 players at once, both off/on line. At first, each fight will seem a bit chaotic, but once you learn the basics, each fight will become more interesting, as you will be thinking of ways to fill up your special move meter or simply finding ways to hurt your oponents with style ;) Cross Play Multiplayer: I tested it and have not complaints. I was able to battle against PS Vita/PS3 opponents without any issues. Connections are smooth and easy to stablish. I noticed both systems were in perfect sync, each fighter's move translated into an accurate action on the screen, it was 100% real time action. More about cross play below**** Controls: Easy to pick up and learn. You'll be given the option to play a "tutorial" the first time (one time only) you start the game and even though the game is extremely easy to play, I recommend playing the tutorial, so you can familiarize yourself with each button. Pulling combos will take some practice, but are easily done once you get the hang of it. I have no complaints about the controls and neither will you. In conclusion, if you're still on the fence about this game, let me put your mind at ease and tell you that this game delivers, it is FUN to play, specially with other players, the more the better; you will probably spend a lot of time on this game off and online and its replay value is extremely high. A great party game that can acomodate those whom just want a quick, fun fighting game and those whom like more technical fighting, such as combos, etc. No matter what your aproach is, this game is without a doubt, a great start for the series. ******************************************************************************************************************** VITA GAME DOWNLOAD: PS Vita Code: THE FREE VITA GAME CAN ONLY BE LINKED TO ONE PS3 DISC ACCOUNT. THERE'S NOT CODE TO ENTER OR GIVE AWAY. The game includes a free copy of the Vita version, but it doesn't come with a code nor will it give you one, here's what you do: Insert disc into your PS3 Navigate to the game menu on your PS3 dashboard. There you will see 3 disc icons for the game. Select the second icon for "disc benefits" You will be taken to the sub menu Choose the cross buy option. Once you've done that, you will be taken to the PSN store, where you will add the vita version into your cart. The price will be $0. Check out and it will be on your download list. Log in to PS Store from your Vita, go to your download list. You will see the game, plus its online pass. Download and you're done. If you don't have a PSN acount, you will need to create one in order to download the Vita game. *************************************************************************************************************** CROSS-PLAY INSTRUCTIONS: Please do not get confused with cross and remote play. Remote play connects YOUR vita to YOUR PS3 to be able to navigate and play game discs on your PS3 from your Vita (not all discs work). Anyway, Cross Play works by sending friends "game invitations", but there has to be a copy of the game on each system (PS3 & Vita), here's how: From PS3: - Versus Mode -Press R2, Invite Friends. -Select the friend whom is playing on his Vita -A message will pop up on your friend's Vita showing your gaming invite -Once he accepts, he will then apear on as player 2. -You're done! Battle and enjoy. From PS Vita: -Versus Mode -WiFi -Make sure you're connected to PSN by touching the upper right hand corner, you'll be taken to a sub menu, there you will either see "sign in" (connect if you do) or view invites/invite friends. -Select "Invite" and your friends list will apear, select him/her -PS3 player will get an invite message -Once they accept, you can battle together. FINAL NOTE ABOUT CROSS PLAY.... I'm sure you want to give this a try right away, with your own Vita, don't worry, it's actually quite simple, create another PSN account for yourself, but remember that you will need another email address....to avoid confusion and headaches when creating another PSN acount, simply add a number to your actual PSN account when creating the extra one...example, your current PSN account is "PLAYER" make the new account "PLAYER2" Hope this helps.

Shocked that it was actually done right!
I went into this game with high hopes, but basically low expectations (what does that even mean?). I expected this game to be similar to Ninja Turtles Smash Up (which most havent played or heard of... which is a good thing), which was a game that tried to mimic the Smash Bros Franchise. Then I saw the first game trailers, and although it contained the parts of Sony I was quite fond of, I was still very iffy about this game working. Although I couldn't just pick it up and start playing (there is a learning curve), once I got the hang of it, I definitely didn't want to put it down. This game did one thing that Smash Bro's couldn't. That was introduce an online multiplayer mode... THAT WORKS! (if you've ever played Super Smash Bro's Brawl online, you understand what I mean). Pros Well Balanced and Fun. Online mode not only works, but works well. (so far only had one game DC on me, and in another game, it changed my character once it entered the match) Done Right! Great/Interesting Roster. Each character feels unique, while fitting into the game quite well. Each with their own tactics and play style, offering a variety of different game play. A number of good and interesting stages. Possible incoming patches/DLC! (I'm hoping for more than costumes, emblems, and avatarts... I'm hoping new character/stages/balance issues) Cons This game isnt perfect. As I mentioned before, there is a bit of learning that needs to be done for each character and items to really get an understanding of the game. If you just walk in, pick up a controller, you probably are not going to have a great experience, but the game DOES HAVE a button masher quality to it which allows for decent game play without full understanding. Each character has a wide variety of moves and tactis to learn Adventure mode is slightly lacking, but thats not a bad thing, just doesnt add to replay value, which is mostly in the multiplayer mode. Each characters move list is a lil much (although simplified enough to make it accessible to all). Some moves seem pointless, or just like a 'meh' move, just added to fill in space, while others seem overwhelming. But this game is still very well balanced considering. I feel like the stages get old very quickly, or they seem very routine at some point. Others seem forced together (two different stages from two different games merges in a way that doesnt really work). I'd give this game an 8.5

A fun rumble with Sony's best
While its easy to call this a Smash Bros clone, it really has a great feel all it's own. Rather than beat down an opponent until that one last hit sends them flying, gameplay is focused on building your AP by attacking enemies and breaking objects that are randomly dropped in to the level. Each character has three AP levels and thus three varying "super" attacks of increasing strength. Using these "super attacks" is about the only way to get a kill, and building to your level 3 attack almost guarantees that you will wipe out every other player. Levels are dynamic and most are constantly changing, though in an enclosed area so dropping off the sides is not much of an issue. Attacks are basic but varied; using the square, triangle and circle buttons along with a direction on the d-pad or analogue to execute ranged and melee attacks. The right stick is used for throws which have unique animations for each character and for the three different directions you can throw the stick. The character selection is a nice mix of exclusives and favorites from multi-platofrm games. Paid DLC has started to expand on the selection as well. Overall this game has been the most fun I have had outside shooters for local multiplayer in some time. It is easy to pick up for beginners, and rewarding to master each character in the single player or online multiplayer. Throw in a free Vita copy and that makes this a great buy for a four-player casual fighter.
