A fantastic handbook showing simple and highly effective combative techniques for the war or the street.
Even though I am a life-time student of numerous martial arts, my favorite methods of combatives and self-defense has always been the military and law enforcement systems. These include Krav Maga, Kelly McCain's combatives, Charles Nelson's combatives, Mark Hatmaker's street combat system, John Kerry's Combatives, the Monadnock Defensive Tactics System and numerous practical street combat and law enforcement systems that are taught today. This 320 page book focuses only on the self-defense and combative methods the military employs around the world. There are no fancy impractical techniques shown in this book. This book deals with only the reality of real life unarmed combat techniques, which the military and the law enforcement community use in deadly force situations. There are many things I love about this book. This includes the drawn illustrations, the organization of the material, and how it also shows what not to do in a real combat situation. TThis excellent book is organized into three parts. Part one covers the basics, defensive tools, striking tools and ground fighting tools. The second part illustrates numerous applications of the techniques such as how to deal with unarmed, multiple combatants and other material. I really love the final part which covers an area few combative books include in their volumes. It shows the importance of physical training and explains numerous practical and highly effective drills. I have used many of these training drills in my classes in the past and they are fantastic. One very important point needs to be emphasized. Even though these techniques are simple and effective, merely reading any book on combatives is not enough. You must train under the guidance of a combatives instructor in order to master the material. This book in combination with actual training is the best combination. In conclusion, if you are seeking a book about dealing with real life combat techniques and tactics rather than fancy and impractical things that are often taught in some traditional martial arts, you should get this book.Rating: 5 Stars.
