Love love this little bamboo salt container, it's actually quite pretty and looks very pottery barnish. I don't use a salt shaker I like to put pink Himalayan salt into this and use it sparingly. The lid slides away it does not come off. I bought it because my cat kept swiping the top off of my old one and now she cannot. It's very good quality and the color is beautiful.

I ordered Maldon salt flakes and wanted a handy dispenser. This works! You can choose the lid style - I chose SALT. The only thing is … the imprinting of the word landed on a bamboo seam where the wood is joined. Looks sort of like SAL with a crookedy T. Not the best quality printing on mine, but very good, precision device.

I’ve wanted a salt box for years, ever since I saw Alton Brown use one to sprinkle Kosher salt on everything. I like the look of this one; the laser etching on the top is nicely centered, and done sufficiently deep. What I mean by sufficiently deep is, the word “SALT” on the lid wasn’t just blackened on top by the laser, it’s actually “carved” into the bamboo. The lid swivel and magnetic catch both work great, and make it very easy to use one-handed. One thing I saw mentioned in other reviews, was a chemical smell inside the box. When I received mine, the first thing I did was sniff inside it. The only thing I caught, was a VERY faint whiff of the finish. I presume it was finished with polyurethane, (which is food safe) although I don’t know that for sure. I literally sat it open on the counter, and when I checked it 5 minutes later, the finish smell was gone. The instructions say to fully wash and dry it first before putting salt in it, so I did. Again, after letting it dry from washing it, still no smell. I originally purchased this for Kosher salt while cooking, since I dump salt in my hand when seasoning food anyway. I just have so much more control with my fingers than with a shaker. This box just removed the step of having to dump salt in my hand first. Since I’ve bought it, I’ve actually started using it at the table, again because of the increased control when compared to a salt shaker. I am really enjoying my first salt box; I wish I had purchased one years ago.
