How.do you find this set for doing portraits? can it cover most skintones (caucasian, asian, african etc)?

This set would work but you should try the Sennelier portrait box to better cover skin tones which Amazon also sells; I have loved using this set

Are these chalk or oil-based?

Accepted Answer

These are soft pastels which are pure pigment and minimal binder. Some people will describe them as chalk pastels but this is a misnomer as soft pastels do not contain chalk. These produce dust when used. They are very soft so a light touch is needed and the colors are beautiful. These are not oil pastels.

Are these oil pastels or soft pastels. Box says soft. Description says oil. Two different products.

These are soft pastels and they are great!  I love them!  The oil pastels are more like crayon but soft pastels are more like a creamy chalk.
