Audio-Technica ATH-SR50BT Bluetooth Wireless Over-Ear Headphones, Black (ATH-SR50BTBK)

Initially I was pondering between these and the Sony XM3's and decided to pull the trigger on this instead. Now I've been using these for a couple of weeks with my iPhone and honestly? I don't regret it. I very much enjoyed these cans and I think you will too. Of course, since all phone manufacturers got smooth brain and thought it was the move to imitate Apple's ditching of the 3.5 mm headphone jack, it seems that getting Bluetooth was basically a requirement. Unless somehow you actually like dealing with weird adapters. Also, I was personally sick and tired of burning through Apple earbuds because of constant cases of me snagging the wire and proceeding to drop my phone or break the earbuds. Coming into these cans after research, I knew right off the bat the noise cancelling properties weren't all that great, but personally I didn't mind. I use my own car for transportation and don't live in a bustling urban city, so to me, something that can at least drown out low drones of airplanes and AC is fine. After all, they call it noise REDUCTION for a reason. It doesn't totally cancel things out, just reduces them. Also includes a hear-through mode! I know lots of people will be put off by the lack of USB-C on a modern product like this, but personally I don't mind. I'm very vigilant about charging my devices overnight while I sleep so it's not a problem. Plus, this thing has great battery life anyways so I rarely find myself running out of juice. But that's enough about features, what about sound? Honestly, these are great. They provide a more neutral sound signature compared to the Sony's. I know for some it's a bit boring, however it didn't hamper my enjoyment at all. What's more, as a requirement, I prefer neutral headphones to actually have good sound quality to back up the normally boring signature, and these very much deliver, as expected of Audio Technica. In even better news, the drivers are actually good, even when turned off and using the included cable. In testing, I didn't really notice a difference between being turned on and off in sound quality and staging, which is great! Do note however that if you do decide to use the cable while it's turned on that it becomes much harder to drive than when it's off. The last thing to note about sound quality is that it has surprisingly good sound stage for Bluetooth headphones. I was kind of shocked to be honest that it was actually equal to open-backs at the same or lesser price. As for comfort, these are very good. The larger drivers means more room inside the ear cups which is good for those with bigger ears as portable headphones like these tend to turn them into on-ears instead of their intended over-ears. The pads are a soft, smooth pleather with a cushy memory foam. There is padding on the headband but not as much as the Sony's. It's Audio Technica's signature of minimal foam on the headband, but it's not uncomfortable even after long periods. However, do note that these things will make your ears hot especially after turning on noise reduction for a while. Let's top this off with the nitpicks I had. First, let me start by saying the combination of touch controls and buttons and switches annoys me. You have this nice, satisfying clicky button for the quick hear-through mode, but then reserve everything else for a touch pad on the left ear cup. The touch sensor also is annoying in that you'll activate it even when just grabbing the headphones sometimes. It's a bit irksome and personally I would've preferred if they went all in for either touch or buttons. Also, when turning them on, it defaults to noise reduction. It's irritating to put these on and be immediately confronted with the head pressure created by this mode. And there's no way to change the default in the app, so you have to cycle back through hear-through to the standard mode via placing all your fingers on the cup, which sometimes isn't detected. I'm a bit miffed at the lack of including any sort of notch notation system for the headband adjustment. I'm a bit OCD and like my headphones on both ends set completely even, and the lack of any sort of marking on the headband bothers me. It's a minor complaint though. Last but not least, I don't have a problem with it but Audio Technica's app doesn't offer EQ for these. Fine by me, I wouldn't want to ruin the great sound signature. Overall, great headphones and I think they were well worth the price of $200. However, I do wish I would've bought these during the Christmas season when they were on sale for $120, as this price point does have some pretty tough competitors including Sennheiser with their PXC cans. I can definitely recommend these, however.

This headphone purchase is the result of many hours of research, I don't exactly consider myself an audiophile but I do know what a bad sound is and what good sound is. With that said, I wanted a good sounding headphone with a great quality build for when I am at the gym working out. The headphones feel sturdy and can take some sweat while delivering a comfortable wear with a great natural sound. Battery life is great. touch pad is a little wonky but definitely usable. I wanted to find a set of headphones that I wouldn't mind being out the price tag if they got banged up a little. Use case: I have many many many sets of headphones, (I buy and try a lot for the many different purposes they serve) and these are perfect for my gym time. I spend about an hour a day at the gym and I occasionally use them long periods at work. Noise: The noise cancellation as actually noise reduction. I work in IT and have a server room I work out of sometimes that is fairly loud with fans and AC hum and beeping. As long as you manage your expectations about the capabilities of it - it works fine. It definitely reduced noise, I will occasionally hear someone drop a weight at the gym (ugh) and the headphones will spike with that noise, but other than that there is a good buffer. You can cycle between NR, Hear through, and off, for the noise reduction capability. Battery: Battery life is super decent, I forget to charge them often, and sometimes I only charge it when I can for only half hour increments. I am a bit disappointed that these were not type c charging but the I find myself charging so seldomly that it doesn't matter, I have a micro usb plugged into an xbox and I plug it in every 2 weeks or so to charge and that has been working for me. Gym use: I love these headphones for the gym mostly and they work great for that for most everything. They have good head pressure and can withstand running speed on a treadmill. The only thing they don't do the best on is when I have to raise my arms close to my ears. my exposed arm occasionally touches the touch pad on the left earcup and makes a gesture action happen like pause or volume up. These headphones became a family favorite, so much so that we call them the family headphones, I wear them to the gym, wife wears them to the gym, and my 9 year old son uses them with his ipad when his headphones are dead, forgot to bring them on a trip, or can't be found. (He is a little rough on them but sturdy build quality has proved itself). Over all these headphones were a great buy for someone looking for a set that does it all for a great price in great quality, I think they look great and have more than earned their keep.

PROs: The headset looks great. Though it is honestly the least important to me. They sound amazing, but this is also a con. They work wonderfully. and the touch options weren't even something I noticed when I bought them. Head band doesn't crush you and is comfy CONs: The quick start directions are just that. VIA BT on at least Windows 10 there are two different audio devices. For music and fidelity you do NOT want the hands free one, which presents as the default device on my unit. IDK if this is specifically a Windows thing or it is programmed. Enabling the other device that does not explicitly state hands free allows for MUCH better sound. It also allows you to enable spacial sound in the audio CP called "Microsoft Sonic" and it sounds fantastic. It should also be noted touch volume control only works when the main non hands free device is in use ( makes sense). At first I didn't notice I was on the HF device and while voices were good actual rhythm seemed very shallow. This makes sense as I believe it is more meant for calls. But if you don't change this you will be extraordinarily disappointed in the way music sounds in HF mode. The only other con would be the muffs. I REALLY wish AT would include a velour option or set you can purchase. While I understand this can DRASTICALLY change the sound dynamic of a headset extended wearing gets sticky if you are in a hot environment. Other Thoughts: Great headphones. quick run down. There are 3 modes. Put your entire palm over the left speaker with them on. It only takes a few seconds and the headset will chirp and tell you (via a voice) what is enabled. The quick start guide only indicates two but there are 3 toggles. - Hear Through (This allows you to hear whats going on near you) - Off (pretty much sounds like you are wearing a headset) - Noise Cancellation (actively fights outside noise) With that said audio quality does not seem super affected by the mode setting which I really thought it would. The noise cancellation is straight magic iv never experienced something like it. I am around 10ft from my AC air handler closet and wow.

4.5/5 The sound quality is great for whatever you want to listen to. The only listeners I think would have quibbles is people looking for strong base in the 20-25 Hz range (it will pick those up, but they'll be relatively quieter and bass boost equalizer settings will be required) and audiophiles looking for a good sound stage (it's okay but not great, just under Bose's low end wired over ear headphones). The former can't get the base they want with good audio quality at this price point and the latter can't get what they want anywhere near this price point so I think these are still a good option for them, but they should be aware going in. The battery life is crazy, I've used these for an entire day without charging several times with no issues. They seem to charge pretty fast too. If you plug them in at night, you pretty much never have to think about the battery, especially if you pop them on the charger for a few minutes whenever you need to take them off for some reason. Connection range is also extremely good, about 50 yards in open air. With the headphones connected to my laptop, I can walk all over my house and office, go outside, etc and not run into any connection problems unless I go to check the mail. Compared to some headphones I've had where having my phone in my pocket was a major issue, these are a dream. You end up just not thinking about them throughout the day. The noise cancellation is great for airplanes and other low frequency noises but only helps a little with things like vacuums or other higher frequency noise. Noise cancellation is functional, but not their strong suit. The real gem for these is a related feature they added that I haven't come across before, the "hear-through" mode, which makes it like the headphones aren't even on. You don't have to constantly remove the headphones if someone needs to talk to you or keep an ear off if you need to be able to listen to monitor a kid playing (though you will have to keep the volume down or you won't hear them over whatever you're playing). The one real negative on these is the microphone, which is really quiet no matter what you do with volume levels. The quality is good, but people are going to have to turn you up a bit on their end for meetings and things like that. If I could take off half a star in the ratings, I would just for this issue.

Overall excellent headphones, especially for the price. Highly recommended. Build quality is good. They're plastic, not metal, but they feel solid and weighty (but not heavy). Headband and cups have comfy leather padding. Charges with micro USB, which is unfortunate, but has a 3.5mm jack and comes with an aux cable, which is great. I frequently use them plugged in. I like having the option. Bluetooth 5.0 works flawlessly. Audio quality does not noticeably suffer over Bluetooth compared to wired. I can put my phone down and wander across my apartment without an issue. They fit well and feel good. The cups don't press on your ears and you don't feel the headband at all. They look sleek and professional. Other headphones in this category have obnoxious, gamer-y branding, but not these. ANC is okay. Blocks mids well but struggles with lows and highs. Would make an airplane more tolerable but not completely silent. Still, they totally block the sound of my air conditioning, a win in my book. Hear-through mode sounds fantastic. I could comfortably have a conversation with someone else while wearing the headphones (though I'd still take them off because, you know, it looks rude). Both features are great for the price. I'm no audiophile, but the sound has impressed me. It nails the mids and highs. Soprano sounds come through beautifully, alto and tenor are nice and strong. As others have noted, the bass could be better, but I don't listen to much bass-heavy music anyway. About the battery life: wow. These last forever. Because I sometimes use them wired, a single charge will last me a week, maybe more. If you use them wireless only with ANC turned on, they'll still last you a while. $120 well spent.

I like most things about this headphones. the desing and the feel specially. bluetooth control are a bit finiky but you can get used to them. I bought this headphones mainly for the sound quiality and unfortunately , im a bit disappointed. I knew from the start the the sound quality over bluetooth was not going to be as good as when i have the headphones wired. But wow. the sound its just really bad through bluetooth. very muffled. As far as how they sound when they are wired......meh as well.....i have other headphones with smaller drivers (40mm) that sound way better. The only thing left for me to do is to find a higher quality headphone cable, since the one that came with the headphones seem to be low quality. If the new cable doesnt improve the sound quality, then nothing will.

The Audio Technica ATH-SR50BT is great for the price I paid. I got a used pair from amazon and it was probably a person that returned it after a week or so. Sound is great (I'm not audiophile or whatever) compared to others I've used. I have an older pair of wired Sony over ear studio headphones from the early 2000s with sound quality on the next level and amazing noise isolation. These headphones are like a quarter of what I remember paying for those back in college though. The noise cancellation works but it's like a layer of white noise. It'll drown out some softer noises but anything over a certain sound level can be heard like there's nothing going on. I imagine it's about par for course for the under $200 range of headphones though. It paired up no problem and everything works. I got into a mood and got a bunch of earbuds and a couple over ear headphones and this one is much better than the generic Chinese mpow set I got. Much more comfortable too. I can only physically wear the mpow ones a half an hour or so before it just hurts my head. These ones are okay to wear for a couple hours at a time. Downside is they're a little looser so if you got short hair like me and move around they'll be shifting around a lot. If you're stationary in front of a computer screen or wearing them on a walk then it's no problem though. I was getting PO'd when they kept falling off and stuff while I was vacuuming the house and doing other weekend chores. Bottom line is they're relatively comfortable and sound good and have the 'noise cancelling' feature. I think they're great for this price range.

I got two of these products. One for my friend as a gift, and one for me. My friend's seemed to work fine and sounded good, so I got a pair myself. I instantly had driver errors with Windows 10 with my pair of headphones. Come to find out, my friend's pair also has driver errors with Windows 10, but for some reason their headphones paired correctly (whereas mine didn't). I would've tried returning and getting another pair, but after finding out my friend is suffering driver errors in Windows 10 as well, I just decided to write a review since this is almost a pattern with this product. However some positives: comfortable, sound decent for the $112 I got it for. Negatives ignoring my friend and I's woes: very bad touch controls (my friend also shares this sentiment). They almost never registered for me, my friend has issues with that as well. For a product like this, I would've been fine without touch controls if they would've spent more R&D on the software side because apparently it needs it.

Los audífonos se escuchan geniales (más aun con cables), la cancelación de ruido no es excesiva, son super cómodos y más aún si usas lentes, el color café es más agradable que en las fotos y la construcción de los cascos es buena, en resumen me parecen unos excelentes primeros cascos. Creo que les queda por mejorar la sujeción de los cascos en la cabeza, habría preferido unos botones físicos para controlar las funciones, incrementar la batería y agregar un estuche rígido para porteger los cascos ya que estos si pueden ser dañados al momento de transportarlos en nuestra mochila ya que todo el cuerpo es de platico y no se siente muy resistente.

I use these headphones for isolating and focusing with the noise cancellation in non-audio work, and they are excellent for that purpose. However I also use them as a reference for mixes and masters from my recording studio. I have 3 pairs of less expensive headphones and then I have 3 pairs of pro headphones, these being the least expensive of the three pro headphones. Anyway, the idea is if you can get your music sounding good on a selection of different headphones and speakers, you have a better chance of it sounding good everywhere. These headphones provide a very accurate and flat frequency response with slight less dynamic range than my top $800 wired studio headphones. The noise cancellation is not as effective as that of the BOSE high end headphones, but the literature from Audio Technical basically states that. These are pretty good noise cancelling headphones, that sound very good in Bluetooth and sound excellent when wired and not in Bluetooth. At the price paid, +/- 180 $ - these are a good buy IMO. *** If you are a bass freak, these are not your headphones. These do NOT boost the bass, they are more flat in the freq resp.

Great set of kit, had one strange occurrence where the device will, after turning off the bluetooth, it will turn back on whilst off. Even though, still a strong set of headphones with enjoyable sound quality, love the noise cancelling via over ear side gesture plus a mute button so you can hear the real world if need be. On another note, wish the Audio Technica app was better (but that's got nothing to do with the product)

I am a fan of Audio Technica, having owned a pair of the original ATH-M50's which I still use occasionally. As wired headphones are gradually starting to become obsolete, I picked up these ATH-SR50BT's hoping they'd live up to the quality I expect from the brand; long story short they were a big disappointment. To start of with the positives, the build quality is solid, the PU leather feels supple and the headband offers a decent amount of flex to conform to any head shape. The sound quality is clear although it can sound a bit flat and bland, lacking a punchy bass. On to the negatives; the buttons are awkwardly placed and it still uses a micro USB port as opposed to the more ubiquitous type-C. The biggest downfall is the connectivity, these were a massive pain to pair with any device, whether it'd be a computer or phone. When connected it would sometimes disconnect spontaneously, then another 10-15 minutes would be spent trying to pair the headphones to your device again. I've had headphones for a quarter the price, although the sound quality doesn't rival the ATH-SR50's, the connectivity and user friendly design makes it a much more viable option. I'd say skip these and look elsewhere.
