It is better suited to those needing balance and stability. The so-called "ergonomic" handle is not suited to downward pressure: you need to grip it tightly with your hand. As my condition improved, the cane became more useful as advertised: upward looking easier gripping. The self-standing feature is OK when the floor is level. Otherwise, sometime the supports get stepped on or caught under furniture. Still, the unit is somewhat of an improvement over the design of standard canes, but it takew some practice getting used to if you need it for support. I have found it to be really easy to assemble.
