Simple in design. You just plug it in. It's easy to set the time. You see the numbers very clearly, they are very large. I got the black one with the white letters. My eyesight is not the best and I always had trouble reading my last alarm clock (plus the numbers faded over time). This one is nice and bright and I can clearly see the time, even across the room. The settings for the light allow you to very easily make it very bright, or adjust it all the way to dim or off. I leave it on very bright during the day and at the halfway setting for night. The numbers on this clock are perfect for him, nice and large, while the Blue lighting of the numerals show up well and don't have any glare. He likes to be able to see it from his recliner, lol, so I would say he is about 10 feet from the clock, and has no problem seeing it---for reference, he is 84yo, with particularly poor vision in his left eye, and this clock is great.
