As a secondary Communication Arts and Literature educator, this book is absolutely necessary in not only learning about the research-based strategies, but also because it provides easily applicable examples. The research is clearly laid out, but not overly dwelled upon (not too technical) and then examples are given that help educators quickly envision how they can apply it to their current units and lessons. Some personal favorite applications: vocabulary lesson ideas, affixes (prefixes, root words, suffixes) lesson ideas and figurative language charts/lesson ideas. I should note that I have read Marzano's recent edition of "The Art and Science of Teaching" and appreciated that text as well, but this text was so directly related to my content area and I know that I will reference it frequently. Review: Research based instruction - Great information on how students learn to read and how to best teach them based on RESEARCH!

Reading is MUCH more than “the Science” behind it!
Anything Marzano writes or co-authors is important to read.

Researched-Based
This is a very well written book filled with lots of research-based data. However, I wasn't looking for something this "heavy". It should be used as a textbook, not as a book just for casual reading by a teacher.

Photocopied Book, Late Delivery
This book took 6 weeks to arrive and was very late. Once I filed a complaint, it arrived within a day. It appears the book is copied and is not from an original publisher. The print is low quality.
