Great Product
I got this as a replacement fo one tha I lost a couple of years ago. At that time I didn't kmow of the substantial variety of "applications" that you can download and use on this calculator. I recently had need for a couple of those app's and couldn't find my link cable. I ordered this one and it works just great!! And the cool app's are living and being used happily on my TI-89. If you have the right calculator, internet access, and like to have some really cool app's on the calculator, then you need this link cable. It is wonderful to use.

WAY faster than the old serial graph link cable
I bought this out of sheer necessity because I wanted to put some 3rd party apps on my Ti-89. Well, sucks for me, I only had the old cable and a USB to Serial cable. While the USB to Serial cable does the job, the software no longer works with the serial cable well enough to provide a seamless experience. Updating the firmware took about an hour and I couldn't even install an app, much less send a file to my Ti-89 with that rig. Reluctantly, I got this cable and wow, it is super easy to use, very reliable and much much faster than the old cable. All in all, this was worth forking out the $20 I had to spend.

it works for TI 86 but takes a TON of work
here is how i made this cable work for my TI86: a word of caution: if you don't want to make a virtual machine or deal with a un-intuitive folder layout system, this is not the cable to use on your TI 86 here are the steps in order to use this cable: Step 1: create a Windows XP virtual machine (the software you need it designed for windows XP and the Windows 8 compatibility program didnt work) Step 2: navigate to http://education.ti.com/en/us/software/details/en/A2E9B3DFCB44490DBD5449E05721767D/ti-graph-link-for-windows INSIDE your virtual machine and download TI graph link for TI86. Step 3: Download TI connect inside your virtual machine. NOW you are ready to send/recive files between your PC and TI86 BUT this is where it get complicated Use TI Connect to pull files from the TI86 since this cable is incomparable with TI Graphlink for TI86. Use TI Graphlink software to edit variables and program files because TI Connect cant open those files. Be sure to save the modified files/new files somewhere else you can find and not in the default 'cause it is hidden under a ton of folders. Use TI Connect to push files back onto the calculator. i give it a 4 star cause it works (when if probably shouldn't) but requires a bunch of free software and messing about to work. it also helps that i didn't read the full description about the compatibility and should probably researched more and bought a different cable

Does not bring CD but software is free to download. Should've bought ti84 plus.
The software is free to download from the website listed in the back of the packaging. I've tested this cable on the ti83 and the ti83 plus. Both work fine. The ti83 is not compatible with many apps like the notefolio app I use to write notes but works fine with the ti83 plus. The cable does the job it's intended to do. I do want to say to those who have not not purchased a ti calculator yet to not buy anything below ti84 plus. Those use a mini USB cable which are easier to find anywhere and dirt cheap. Most of us may even have one lying around the house somewhere. I believe it has more memory and it's more compatible with apps as well. It's worth it and roughly the same price when you factor in the cost of this cable with a ti83 plus.

A highschool dream come true
I always wanted one of these since I was in high school. Asteroids 0.99 and Phoenix 4.4 for the ti-83+ are PEAK. Calculator games do NOT deserve to be as fun as they are. I can play them for 45 minutes easy. Just remember to archive the programs with an asterix on 2nd->mem or they will disappear!

Exactly What I Needed
The product came quickly, is sturdy, reliable, and gets the job done. It was a cheap alternative to some other cables I had viewed, and thus I was skeptical at first. I have had this for around 2 months now, and it is still in great condition even after near-daily use. Easy to setup, still working fine, no defects in the cable, no signs of wear, and cheap compared to similar cables. What more could you ask for in this product?

Does not work with new Operating Sytems!!! 2010/2011+
I used to use this cord when I first got the calculator and it was a godsend, so since I lost it and am taking applied calculus II I thought I could definitely benefit from it again. However, after receiving it and wasting a few hours trying to make it work I contacted Texas Instruments, and they told me that the cord does not work with Mac OS X 10.6.8 and above or Windows 7. So unless you buy an old operating system this cord will not work with any new computer made within the last year. I was kind of disappointed that TI cares that little about their calculator customers and wish there was another brand that could keep up with TI but sadly they seem to have the monopoly :-(

Fazit: Hardware ( made in China ) stabil, Software ok, also empfehlenswert, 5 Sternchen.
