I have trouble with pack rats chewing a vacuum hose when I have it replaced can I ask the mechanic to wrap my hose with this tape to discourage them?

Yes, and tell him to set out some Trident for the pack rats.  They enjoy chewing it.   Four out of five pack rats recommend Trident for their rat buddies who chew gum.

Question 2

I'm very sensitive to odors and we will be using this indoors. Does it have an odor?

I would like to know this as well.  The "use some lip balm and you'll be fine" answer is not responsive to people who are very sensitive to odors.  While that may work for some people, those who are extremely sensitive to chemicals and odors can be made very ill.

For someone like that is chemically sensitive it is important to know about the problem in advance so that they can vacate the premises while the product is being installed and steps can be taken to remove the odor as quickly as possible.

I have been quite ill for 3 weeks because I used a dryer at a laundromat (mine was being repaired) and the fragrance from scented fabric softener dryer sheets was so built up in the machines that I had to put everything I laundered there in a closed room with open bowls of vinegar and an industrial air purifier running on high 24/7 -- this has been going for 3 weeks now and it seems that, soon, most of the scent will be removed (I hope).  Other family members don't notice much, if any, scent and it doesn't make them sick at all.

Please be aware that people ask these questions about fragrances and scents because it is *very* important to them. It's okay if you don't know the answer -- but please don't trivialize the question or concern.

I know this is difficult to appreciate if you are not sensitive to smells &/or chemicals -- most people only notice a slight smell and can ignore it (or enjoy it I presume.)  I apologize for my wordy response -- but helping others realize that some people are made very sick by things that you might barely notice is important to me.  Thanks for caring enough to attempt to answer.

Seeking the most durable, effective tape to seal off air conditioners from air leaks around windows, etc.  Any product recommendations that work?

Tapes will leave a sticky residue, especially when the sun warms it up...Amazon sells "Duck Brand" Window Air Conditioner Insulating Strips...foam strips that wrap around the unit...comes in many sizes..."Frost King" is also a good brand to consider.

Is this plumber tape?

“Plumbers Tape” is thin metal strapping with a series of holes running down the middle of it. It is used to hang piping from the floor joists. You wrap the plumbers tape around the pipe, bring the end up to the side of a joist and then run a nail or screw thru the hole into the joist to secure.
