The Pioneer Woman Cooks―Food from My Frontier Review: An Honest Review - I am not sure where to start....I guess I should begin by telling you that this cookbook is wonderful! To put it mildly, the pictures are crisp, colorful and clear. If you are trying any of the recipes, it is an understatement that you will find step-by-step directions and images to follow. Honestly, you feel like you are in Ree's kitchen cooking or baking alongside of her. Her hints and comments along with her photographs are a testament to Ree's sense of humor and competence in the kitchen. The author is proud of her family and it shows. Here and there you will see pictures of her family including the dogs. I found it refreshing and gave the book a touch of whimsy. Is her style of cooking and baking healthy? Wellllll, not really. But it is delicious :-). Just hum the Mantra of Moderation. After you have fixed one of her recipes follow it up the next day with lots of fresh fruits and salad. Like anything you eat, don't go overboard. OK, let's talk recipes. I made her Sloppy Joes and Strawberry Shortcake Cake today. The Drummond family must like spicy! Be aware that you can tailor the recipes to suit your family's tastes. When I made the Sloppy Joes I eliminated the Tabasco sauce and red pepper flakes. I substituted one teaspoon of cumin and halved the amount of chili powder. It still packs a punch but is mild enough for my husband, kids and grandkids-they love it! And, did I say that I have never liked Sloppy Joes before trying this recipe? It is true but I am now hooked. The Strawberry Shortcake Cake is a dense buttery cake that is quite a bit tastier then biscuit-types or those small yellow shells you buy in the grocery store. Again, I adjusted the recipe. I eliminated one of the sticks of butter in the frosting and it was fine. The only thing I can think of why it required two sticks is it may have made for easier spreading. I have a thin slice to the side of me right now that I am sampling. It is delicious and both recipes are keepers. Who will enjoy this book? 1) Followers of Paula Deen's style of cooking; those who are 'Friends of the Butter'. 2) Cookbook collectors, and I have to say that as of today there are already two vendors on desertcart that have this book as 'Collectible- Like New'. Their price? $49.95 plus S& H. So if you want this 'first edition' buy it now for $16.82. 3) Someone new to cooking and baking. Are you looking for a nice gift for a newlywed couple? Unless they don't eat meat or insist that everything that goes in their mouth is healthy, they should enjoy this recipe guidebook. You can't go wrong. 4) Lovers of comfort food. 5) If you love her blog, The Pioneer Woman, and here I will make a comment about what another reviewer wrote. Yes, I agree, you can find quite a few of her cookbook recipes online. The two I tried today are posted on the internet BUT I am willing to spend the money to have a condensed hardcopy of her recipes in front of me. When I want to try one I just open the book and go for it. I think it shows you just how confident Ree is to be able to share her love of cooking online AND know that there are those of us who will want to have a cookbook, too. Review: BEAUTIFUL in every way!!!! - This book is Beautiful. Ree color coordinates the pages to the different sections and the color is gorgeous. I especially like the hot pink page of Soups that perfectly matches the opposing page of tulips. This is the first book I have ever pre-ordered. Some recipies that stick in my mind after going through the book are: Mango margaritas, Watermelon granita, Buttered Rosemary Rolls (just because the picture is so yummy looking), Spicy Dr. Pepper Pulled Pork, Osso Buco (with Risotto), Italian Cream Cake, Citrus Butter cookies, Coffee Cream Cake, & Roasted Cauliflower. I know these sound very familiar, but Ree puts her own spin/spices in each one. I have made the Apple Dumplings with Mt. Dew; they are scrumptious. What am I saying? I want to make and try them all. They all look and sound like they will be wonderful, and I'm a petty good judge of reading a recipe and knowing whether it will be tasty or not. The paper is nice and thick, good quality, slightly glossy, and has a nice feel. The photos are outstanding. There does seem to be a lot of brown/dark in the photo background, but all the other colors keeps the book light and bright feeling. And she uses a LOT of color throughout the book. The yellow pages are very cheerful and provides good contrast with the type. One picture on page 261 of the Knock You Naked Brownies (also on my to do list) looks like a big butt. lol A little humor or just coincidence? Anyway, kind of cute/funny. The font size and type are good EXCEPT- I found the fractions to be too small. Could not easily make out the difference between one half and one third without pulling out my magnifying glass. All of the ingredient lists are in bold type which is easy to read. Each section, Salads, Vegetables, Dinner... all have a page at the beginning listing all of the recipies for that section. Very helpful... There was a lot of thought and planning that went into this book in many different areas/ways. I wish all books were this well done. IMHO, this book is a winner... :-D THANKS REE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PS I would advise you not to buy this for the Kindle unless all you want are just the recipies. You will miss out on all beauty of the book; the color photos and the color layout. If you have a large Ipad or other electronic device that is in color... then you might risk it...

Men AND Women adore it!
I bought Ree Drummond's cookbook for a friend, thinking she needed a pick-me-up, a real treat, even though I very much wanted it for myself! Wow! I have NEVER received such a rave review over a cookbook in all my 52 years! You'd think I'd given her a million dollars. And her husband was even in awe of the book, to the point he read it from cover to cover. Fast forward to a week later when they were having friends over for dinner. They were so in love with the recipes and the stories that they'd left it out on their living room coffee table, intent on perusing it all over again. Every single guest, both male and female, was enthralled and intent on reading this gem, to the point where whoever was reading all of the BEST RECIPES EVER and the lovely life stories and pictures that accompanied each page was so busy oohing and aahing over this GREAT, GREAT COOKBOOK that they wanted to know where and how to get one for themselves. I felt like the smartest and best gift giver of all time. I'm not kidding when I say The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food From My Frontier is one of the best gifts I've ever given. Months later, my friend still calls me to say someone else has picked up this cookbook and wants to know how to get one for herself AND THE MEN WANT ONE, TOO!! PLEASE share with our fellow cookbook lovers the following: I know I'm a long-winded gal, but I'm NOT KIDDING when I say since I've bought this book I've purchased the next one, also a keeper, and I plan on buying at least two more, based on the requests, for Christmas and/or birthday gifts. Thank you, Ree, for being so refreshingly real and accessible!

Unbedingter Kauftipp!!!!

This is easily my favourite cookbook. The pictures are beautiful and as someone who grew up in the country, I love seeing snapshots of Ree's life on the ranch. Every single recipe has a picture and for me this is huge. I have so many cookbooks that don't have pictures for the recipes and guess what? I never end up cooking from them. The step-by-step picture directions are super helpful because whenever I'm making a new recipe I'm always wondering "is it supposed to look like that?". Plus, so far every recipe I have made from this cookbook has tasted really good! I hate putting time and effort into recipes that don't turn out and so far that has not happened with this cookbook (and I have made many of the recipes). I love this cookbook so much, I bought it as a gift for my mom. I hope she likes it as much as I do. I also just pre-ordered Ree's Holiday Cookbook and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

A great insight into american cuisine! I love the recipes, the pictures and the stories. A great book for yourself or to gift someone! the only downside is that we don't use the same measuring systems, but that's solved with the help of Google! I recommend this book!

Esta mujer la he descubierto no hace mucho y la verdad es que me encanta. No obstante, de todos sus libros, recomiendo este primero, por ser el más fresco y original. Las recetas son calóricas, típicas americanas, pero salen muy ricas.
