A companion Evolve website enables you to assess your understanding with quizzes for each chapter that provide immediate feedback to help you identify specific areas for review. Review: The author did an excellent job of writing and formatting the book - This book was required for my Medical Terminology class. The author did an excellent job of writing and formatting the book. It is easy to read, and the illustrations help you to understand the subject matter . The vocabulary is highlighted in the text and listed in the book according to it's use; ie: suffixes, prefixes, word parts and whole words. The study lessons at the end of each chapter are a good test of you have read and your knowledge of the subject matter. Elsevier also supports the student with online activities that accompany the book. This is the easiest and best book I've seen. I have learned a great deal. Review: LOVE THIS BOOK!!! - Love, Love, Love the way this book teaches! I need to read and see things in different examples and this book supplied that. Also there is such an overkill (just right for me) in the lessons you can't help but learn medical terminology. I love the fact that words previous learned are in future lesson plans as a refresher...which is greatly needed when taking in so much material. I am taking medical terminology now in the summer and this book is a great tool for learning!

One of the few textbooks I will actually hang on to
I bought this for a medical terminology course I was taking. I was afraid it would be too basic, but I learned a lot. This book is a cross between a traditional textbook and a workbook. Each chapter contains a short section (~5-10 pages) of text and figures on the topic being studied, followed by a break down of related roots and terminology and a short personal testimony from a patient, which shows the clinical relevance of the information being studied. The last half of each chapter contains a number of different activities fill-in-the-blank and matching style to practice the information covered. What's helpful? -Emphasis on learning roots - rather than requiring you to memorize each term, this book focuses on common roots found in medical words so you will be prepared to confront new words you come across -Plenty of practice activities - I found there were more practice exercises in each chapter than I needed to do well, so I skipped many of them, but it was good to know they were there for topics I was a less familiar with -Concise- gives a nice overview of all the information someone interested in medicine would need to know without being overwhelming Overall, I would say this is a great text for an undergrad or anyone interested in medicine. It must cover a lot of ground in one book, so it cannot be expected to be extremely detailed. It is a good resource to have available. *If you buy the textbook new, it comes with an access code to the Evolve website. This is useful because it has pdf's containing the definitions of the terminology used in the textbook. This is convenient, but the definitions can be found online or in any medical dictionary if you don't have the access code.

I really liked this book
I really liked this book. It's one of the most easy to learn from textbooks I've ever read. The way it's laid out, the pictures and personal accounts, the definitions, are top-notch. I wish all textbooks were like it. I also loved that I could rent it for only about $15! That included shipping to & from the facility and using it all semester. I think I'll buy the book someday, but for now, while I'm a poor college student, I loved that I had the rent option.

Still a Good Textbook, Though I Liked Some Things in the 9th Edition Better
I had the ninth edition when I took my medical coding course, and I loved it! I was nervous about ordering the 10th edition because sometimes the sequels are not as good, but I decided to order it because I assumed it would have the most current information...and unlike the 9th edition, it also had abbreviations that were no longer used (and the substitutes that should be used). The 10th edition still contains many things I had loved about its predecessor. Explanations are very straight-forward and simple to understand (moreso than in the last edition), even for those new to anatomy and medical terminology. The exercises give you plenty of practice so that you absorb the information. It also has the answers after each section so you can check your work. There were some things I didn't like as well in the 10th edition in comparison to the 9th edition: 1. The book is not as sturdy. 2. I really miss the CD, which was one of the best things about the 9th edition. If you order a NEW book of the 10th edition, you can register for free online content. I haven't been able to access the Resources yet because I have to allow pop-ups...and I can't remember how to enable them (and I'm annoyed that I have to really). The CD in the 9th edition had quizzes, audio that pronounced the words, and even games that made learning enjoyable. 3. The diagrams, I don't think, are quite as good. They are more simplified, and yet I find them a little more confusing because of it. One thing that I have mixed feelings about is that there are more photographs. These are interesting and give you a better concept about the diseases you will be learning about...but many of them are rather nauseating. Of course, if you are a nurse or someone who is going to be dealing with gross stuff--then you might as well get used to it. However, as I was planning on sticking to just the paper work aspect of medical care, I didn't feel the need to harden my stomach. Also, you will be seeing very graphic representations of some of the more private areas of the human body, so if you are very prudish...well, get over it. Not only will you be seeing them, you will be seeing them more than likely after they have "gone bad". The access key is a sticker at the beginning of the book. If you buy this book used, more than likely this will be useless to you. If you want online access, you either have to buy a new book or buy the access key separately online. I haven't been that impressed by the online content so far, though I haven't looked at the Resources yet. A piece of advice: when peeling the sticker for the access code--peel only the black square, not the gray square that surrounds it.

Amazon has the books, the prices, the convenience - What more could you ask?
OK - I say I love it - NO, not really - It was a required text for my class, however, it was EXACTLY what I needed, and the price couldn't be beat! It was delivered within two days, the price was half what I could purchase it at the bookstore or any other online "student" website, and of course wtih Amazon's guarantee, there's no way I could go wrong! Thank you Amazon, for continuing to be my "Go-To" location for all of my text-books, and no matter how much time I waste looking, you will continue to have the best prices! Even the bookstore has felt your impact - they have started offering a 10% discount to price match Amazon's prices - the negative at the bookstore? You wind up waiting in line for 1-2 hours. I don't know about anyone else, but having Amazon ship it to my DOOR, have no inconvenience of going to the campus to stand in line with TONS of other irritated students, for the SAME price I can get at Amazon??? It's a NO-Brainer! Gee, Why am I going to college - to learn what Amazon is making very obvious!

Great study guide for Medical Terminolgy
Great book, makes it interesting and easy to learn medical terms. Same day shipping is a bonus ;) .. To all those stating it came without a code, it clearly states on the cover itself that online access is free with the purchase of the book. If you go to the evolve website, you can set up an account, add the corresponding study guide to your cart for free without any other purchase necessary .. and voila! Even has a QR code to scan if needed.

essential book
this is an excellent reference book for med/pre-med/ nursing students. its very organized, colorful, detailed and has amazing exercises. I used it in my pre med year, after I finish studying the lecture I go back to the book and review and do the exercises then check my answers and I scored an A+. there's an ebook version of it but for me actual book is better so i can write and highlight and note.

Excellent
It's American version so some words are spelled differently but the concepts are identical in terms of the prefixes, stems and suffixes. Teaches you what the latin Greek terms all mean and lots and lots of questions to practice. Also, each section is dedicated to a system or field (I.e. Digestive system, psychology etc) with details on their respective functions and anatomy. Easy to follow, came early and in excellent condition. Definitely recommend for novices and medical students.

Language of Medicine
I'm taking Medical Terminology Level 1, when I called the school's bookstore to find out how much the book cost, I thought it best I search out other/cheaper options. I called other schools nearby, I searched Craigs List, but in the end this was the best price ($85 amazon.ca) for a brand new version of the book. As other reviewers have posted, the book is well written, easy to understand & thorough. I was very concerned that I'd have a hard time learning this stuff, but again, since this is well written it makes it that much easier. I recommend this to anyone interested in learning medical terminology, or students who need the book for class but want to save some cash, this is the way to go!
