Recommended and update
This is very nice. I mounted it on our mailbox. One problem is the instructions do not state how to take it apart, but I got it apart without breaking it and put in my 4 numbers with spacers on the ends. It works very nicely and installed fast, works great at night so far. When approached with a light on (headlights) it turns off then back on when the light is not shining on it. The numbers are clearly visible with just the headlights. You can choose to place the solar unit on top of the unit or mount it somplace else; it has an extension wire for remote placement but you will need two sided tape to mount the solar collector. I feel the number unit needs to be under a ledge as water can get inbetween the plastic pieces and hold moisture in, leading to mold, or road dirt in, but time will tell. I think rain or snow could get blown-in through the number spaces but I will update if problems occur. You cannot access the rechargable batteries when they fail; which it will eventually as they all do. So far 5 stars. I would recommend to a neighbor and will buy again for the other side of the box. Update 12-25-13: Ditto. Be aware the solar batteries do not charge on cloudy days. I still recommend this item and hope this helps someone.

This was a surprise
I was looking for something to round up an order so I could avoid shipping charges and this crossed my radar. The unit is exactly as advertised, and is very easy to install and assemble. I mounted it on the Mailbox post with the screws provided. My experiences with double stick tape in an outdoor setting are poor at best. Always use mounting hardware for best results. The kit comes with amore than ample supply of numbers, spacers, and even the letters A - D. I would like to be able to return the unused characters as it would be a shame to toss them. The unit takes a day to charge up and then comes to life at dusk . Very visible in both daylight (nonlit) and after dark (LED's on). It functions through out the night (even Winter Solstice!) and looks pretty classy! I highly recommend this addition to anyone's home.

Works great, good price.
I have heard of lighted address numbers saving lives and property so I decided to check it out. I didn't want to get a very expensive one, just to try it out, so I opted for one of the lowest prices on Amazon. I received a package with plenty of extra numbers & letters (too nice to throw away, so I might find another use for them). Assembly was very simple, and mounting tape was already attached for mounting to a smooth surface. The tape was enough to hold it to my stucco wall, but I don't think it would last and could not find the masonry screws mentioned on the parts list. I used some drywall screws, which required some countersinking in the plastic to get them to go in flush. Else the sign would not snap into the mounting bracket. So the installation took about 20 minutes instead of 10. Not a big deal if you have some tools and screws. Nevertheless, the lighted sign works beautifully, and seems to stay lighted at least 8 hours after sundown. I don't know if the solar charge lasted all night, because I didn't get up in the early morning to check it. So far, works fine after 2 days.

It really works!
I was skeptical at first because I didn't think it would work very well. I gave it to my dad as a Christmas gift and it's been installed for two months now and so far it works excellently well. The numbers are not lit themselves but instead there is a plastic diffuser with several LEDs arrayed behind it and the numbers are clear. The house number is four digits and the backlight illuminates them well enough to be quite visible from the road which is about 50 feet away. The unit comes with opaque spacers to center a four digit house number. He mounted the solar battery pack above a window with a good view of the southern sky and it charges enough to keep illuminating well into the night. As far as durability, the unit is very simple with not much to go wrong. The solar part is sealed with a rubbery sealant to keep the water out. The plastic used is light weight and brittle though, so be careful not to drop it or apply too much pressure when mounting it.

5-stars all around
Folks don't expect much in the way of customer service these days, but I have to say that Goldtech turned out to be the exception to that rule. After sending them a message about getting a longer power connector, the Goldtech customer service got back to me almost immediately and made arrangements to ship that item out to me. I got it a few days later (at no cost to me!) and am now happy as a clam with this product. I'm quite pleased not only with their help, but with the actual product. The quality of the letters was much better than I expected for such a low price. I could wish for brighter LEDs, but I understand that illuminated house numbers aren't meant to be a blazing spotlight in the dark. On the whole, super pleased with this product and with Goldtech.

Works great when new but battery life decreases quickly
It worked very well when new but within a couple of months lighted dimly, and continued to work very dimly for a while then after around three years so another year later I finally opened it up and found that it had a crappy 700mAh NiCd AA cell in it. I upgraded it to a 2300mAh NiMH cell. I also had to sand off and clearcoat the solar cell because it had degraded in the sun. Why are they not using UV-resistant coatings on these cheap solar devices? NiCd cells? No freaking wonder these things aren't lasting; NiCd is a very poor choice of cell for partial discharge cycles, which is why the entire world abandoned that technology in favor of NiMH, Lithium ion, and more recently LiFePO4 cells. Ni-Cd is a relic of the '70s.
