Subversive Cross Stitch: 50 F*cking Clever Designs for Your Sassy Side

I bought this for my wife who has a wicked sense of humor and has recently taken up cross stitch as a new hobby. This book has been perfect for her. She loves the patterns for their subversive content, and very much appreciates that the patterns are in full color. Previously she had been printing patterns from online, but with a black and white printer she had to rely on patterns printed with different symbols to represent colors. This became extremely tedious, especially in patterns with over 30 colors! The pictures are basically to-scale, which makes cross stitching them very easy for counting squares. This book made an especially great present for my wife since it has 50 different patterns so there is a lot for her to choose from which will supply her with patterns for months. The patterns she had been buying off of etsy cost about $3 apiece, so this book represented an exceptional value. On top of that, it makes a great coffee table book for people to enjoy the juxtaposition of the "traditional" hobby of cross stitching (as my wife puts it, her "old lady" hobby) with the very funny quotes. If they ever release a second volume I will surely buy a copy for my wife.

I wish I could give this MORE stars! This was just what I was looking for! I recently got back into cross stitch. I bought a cute set from the store that came with everything I needed. When I finished it, I couldn't wait to start a new project. The problem was that I didn't find any other kit appealing. It didn't fit my style. Most looked like stuff my grandma would make. No offense to any grandmas. I will be one some day but I wanted something that fit my personality amd style for now. (I'm 38 years old with a young and sassy personality) I looked online for patterns but most sites wanted to charge 8 bucks just for the pattern in pdf format. That wasnt working for me. So I decided to look on amazon and came across this book! I was so excited! This fit my personality and it was a great price! I got the book in 2 days. I want to do every one of them! The pictures are gorgeous and the captions are hilarious. The quality of the book is amazing. The patterns are easy to read as well and are not complicated. I feel that it is perfect for beginners like myself. She even includes 3 different styles of alphabet and a black graft so you can create your own pattern. The book is also small enough to throw in my purse and take with me anywhere. I am a huge fan and will be searching for more books from her. Girl! I am a huge fan! Please give us sassy girls MORE!!!

Received this as an early Christmas present from my hubby, as he knows I love a good subversive cross-stitch. I've purchased a couple patterns off their website directly, but it's so nice to have a wide selection of fun designs all together in one book. There are a LOT of swears in this book, particularly wide use of the 'F' word, and I'll probably alter some of those with an asterisk in place of the 'U', but not all use swears for the humor. The author also givesvry clear instructions for people brand new to cross stitching. For me, this book is worth every penny!

I am really impressed with this cross stitch book. The designs are clever and very easy to follow. Each project has a very clear design grid. The ideal colors are listed but you are able to substitute for any color that catches your fancy. Julie Jackson starts the book out with easy directions for any cross stitch situation and even gives you a few tips on how to keep your stitches clean and neat. She puts some great sayings out there for you to cross stitch and frame. They are definitely not your every day design and are sure to make anyone visiting your home take a second look. In the end she gives you a blank grid to make your own design, and shows you how to go forward and do your own thing. I recommend this book to anyone new to cross stitch with a sassy mind, and anyone old hat to it. It's a fun read with fun projects.

I wish I had taken a picture of the end product before I gave them away as Christmas gifts. They got a good laugh from the recipients. I didn’t read the whole book, so I can’t comment on the depth of instructions, I just read enough to get going and then picked my designs. I have a little experience with embroidery, and cross stitch is much easier, so I was able to finish 3 designs in a week after coming home from work. I also changed up the colors to use up the thread I had, and they still turned out beautifully. I just wish they had more or different designs to choose from.

I already own her first book, which has gotten quite a work out over the years. There are quite a few of the same designs in here, so if you already own the first one, be aware of that. BUT, the new designs are hilarious. No spoilers, but there is A LOT of f-bombs in this one, plenty to make your uptight relatives cringe when they see the stitchery artfully displayed on your wall. There is a tutorial section in the front for all of the stitches used in the designs, but honestly, cross stitch is super easy, a 5 year old can do it. (That's how old I was when my mom taught me, at least.) There's also several fonts in the back, including a new rose one, for creating your own designs. And since the first book was published, it has become waaaaaaaaay easier to find those fancy gold frames like the one's Julie uses in the book, so now you can full reproduce each design in all it's fancy offensive glory.

This book is SO easy to understand! It gives you the very basics at the beginning and has templates for text so you can make your own. I absolutely LOVE the sassy phrases and have already made several projects and am attempting my first "custom" project using a mishmash of 2 patterns. This book is a great place to start for beginners as well as fun for others. It's also very entertaining with the little quips at the bottom of the left pages! LOL

Divertente, irriverente e stimolante

This was one of the books I got at the beginning of my cross stitch journey during early pandemic days and I have not looked back since! All the designs are cute and simple, and I love the cheeky messages. The photos are really well done and the book in general is designed and laid out very nicely. I will always hold this book dear to my heart and would highly recommend it, especially for others just starting out as she provides awesome beginner tips. The finished products also make great gifts and don't take much time at all to whip up!

The patterns in this book are quite rude so if you are easily offended this is not the book for you. I personally really like the patterns and think they are a fun modern take on cross stitch, they are easy to follow and the finished product looks great and is even suitable for beginners. The book is also great value for money with the amount of patterns available.
