This formula drives out corrosive air and moisture other primers leave behind. From the Manufacturer Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Rusty Metal Primer stops rust and prevents corrosion. Apply to heavily rusted metal (use Rust-Oleum Stops Rust Clean Metal Primer on clean or lightly rusted metal). Bonds tightly to rust to form a surface top coats can adhere to.

Review: Used this many years #1 primer - This is the best affordable oil base primer you can buy in my opinion. I have used this primer on everything over the years and have never ever had a comeback. Brush, spray, or roll on it goes on really nice. It drys evenly and if you need to sand this primer a little you can if you want. The trick is get everything thouroughly clean first before application. I knock all the rust off I possibly can, wash with tide, apply Ospho, wipe on wipe off with Prepsol or panel wipe, and apply this primer in a few light coats. This applies with rustoleum primer or paint. Do not thin greater than 10% use mineral spirits. If you want it to lay out smooth with a brush add a little bit of flood penetrol this will slow drying time yet will help it go on nicer. Penetrol will help with rust too. After it's dry coat it with rustoleum paint and you will have a really nice long lasting durable finish. Great deal on desertcart I was surprised.

**Q: Any particular brush better than another when using this?  Thanks.**
A: Any good quality brush for oil based stain and paint should be fine. I personally used an HVLP sprayer for mine and got outstanding results.

**Q: What is the drying time for an outdoor project?**
A: Depends upon temperature and humidity. In Tucson during the summer 4-6 hours. You might even add some paint thinner to slow it down. In the Sierras ~60° best to let it dry 24-48 hours before fiddling with the finish.

**Q: what is the difference between this primer and rustoleum's rust reformer?**
A: Rust reformer converts the rust to a more stable metal compound.  The primer just covers the rust and makes it suitable for a finish coat.  I like the reformer.

**Q: Has anyone used this on cars? Can I paint over it?**
A: I use it on my rusty cars. You probably should use the same brand and type primer as your paint though.

this is the best . if you dont mind the color you dont have to to paint over it 10X better than paint dries quickly add thinner to store what you dont use.
