It gives you a great understanding about SkipCheck, Feeders, Parallel Interactions and such that you don't find in the manuals found with the software. Not yet half way through the whole book but I assume for a newbie it won't be any help...cause with how TM1 has evolved since the IBM acquisition...I would suggest go through a Development & Design Model training first then read this book. Something to note though...Typo Error on Page 358...it support to be GRANT not GRAND. Review: Long read but gets the details on paper and great learning tool! - Well written. Can be very technical but with practice you will get the hang of it. I would recommend it!

Five Stars
Awesome insight to TM1.

Okay for experienced users.
I'm an inexperienced user so this is a bit more technical than I need. However, I'm glad I have it and I'm sure I'll refer to it often.

Excellent, if occasionally muddled
This is the in-depth TM1 manual we have all been waiting for. It contains a host of useful tips and a great deal of in-depth analysis and explanation of the inner workings of TM1. Truly excellent sections on the structure of TM1 in memory, how to calculate resources required, sparse consolidation and feeders. I do have a few criticisms: 1. Part I, which is essentially a discussion of why you would want TM1 in the first place, seems incongruous in a largely technical book. Any person who can benefit from the in-depth stuff doesn't need persuading: they will already have TM1. 2. Occasionally the English grammar is poor. Perhaps English is not the native language of the writers. Elsewhere this might not matter, but with extremely complex technical detail, the problems become apparent as you try to unravel the linguistic muddle. 3. The authors, presumably because of some branding/copyright issue, use the term "Cognos TM1" throughout. I calculated that this adds several unnecessary pages to the book. Every single user of this software, except perhaps the brand manager of IBM, knows it as "TM1". Come on, let's be sensible. Ian Digby

good
if you want to focus on TM1, it is the book to read it, although there are some errors inside it.

Good show case but where is the sample file
Good effort, thick book. No where to find the sample file that they show. More confusion. Still do not understand why the pricy book do not add any file or example to download to follow as they try to show. If anyone can tell me where to find the example file, I will re-rate it. I vote not to buy it if you are new to TM1.

This book contains comprehensive information on all aspects of IBM Cognos TM1. It covers the technical side very well. I recommend this book for someone who has a fair amount of exposure to TM1 as it can get quite specific into the details. Nevertheless, it is a valuable source of information with lots of insight and recommended techniques that I have discovered and will be using for sure.

Great book

I have been working with TM1 for over 13 years and with OLAP for over 20 years. However, I still found the later chapters that describe how TM1 can be used to solve a variety of business problems very good. Even if you are not fortunate enough to be using TM1 for your analysis reporting and planning applications, I would still buy this book for the business knowledge in these later chapters. There are a few negatives. While the book does describe best practice on naming conventions, indentation of code, single time dimensions, etc, many of the examples don't keep to this Common to many other programming books on the Kindle, the code examples are inserted as pictures rather than as text. This makes them impossible to read as the pictures can only be zoomed to a very limited extent, and it is not possible to use the text size feature of the Kindle. However, overall this is an excellent book for anyone who wants to learn TM1 development.

The book is good and the customer service from Thrift Books which was the seller of this book was very responsive!

Highly Technical book. Good work. But the non availability of example working files/data makes the reading boring. The authors should have given the example data for users to try it themselves. The users are not there to watch it like a cinema and go away but to apply the techniques and if examples are not try-able, what is the point? For each workout the readers cannot be expected to prepare the figures or data themselves. Hope they will make them available to all buyers.
