There is no real leather, it is PU (synthetic) leather.

Is "pu leather" a synonym for polyurethane leather? if not, what is the meaning of "pu?"

the leather does have the feel of a light layer of polyurethane coating on parts of the decorative straps on the out side of the product. This is done on some leathers are exposed to high moister areas, like a bath room. this is a quality product. I hope this helps.

Are the materials waterproof or would consistent exposure to humid conditions i.e bathrooms damage it?

There is a lifetime warranty on all Vetelli products. I am not worried about it being damaged. I strongly feel that it will not because of the canvas body with leather enhancements and waterproof lining. You could use a leather cleaner/conditioner to upkeep the leather.
