RAPICCA Fireplace Fire Pit Gloves, 662°F Fireproof Leather, 16in Grey

I bought these RAPICCA 16-inch fireplace gloves to use with my Weber barbecue, mainly for handling the chimney starter, hot coals, and charcoal baskets, and I have been really impressed with them so far. The first thing I noticed was the heavy-duty feel of the thick cowhide leather and the rugged stitching. They feel like proper protective gloves rather than thin BBQ mitts. The extra-long length is a big plus, as it gives me much more peace of mind by protecting my wrists and forearms from stray sparks, ash, and radiant heat. I used them while getting the coals ready in my Weber Rapidfire chimney starter and then tipping and distributing the hot coals into the Char-Baskets while cooking a beer can chicken. They did a great job of blocking the heat from the flames and coals, and I had no problem gripping my barbecue tools while wearing them. They are thick gloves, so you do lose a bit of fine finger dexterity, but for barbecue, fire pit, fireplace, or chimney starter use, I would much rather have the extra protection. One word of caution: I would not treat these as magic gloves for holding glowing hot metal, hot ash, or open flames for long periods. They are excellent for quick adjustments, moving hot barbecue parts, handling logs, or dealing with the chimney starter, but prolonged direct heat will eventually come through. Used sensibly, though, they are excellent gloves and exactly what I wanted for safer outdoor cooking.

These BBQ gloves have been a great purchase. They provide excellent heat protection, so I can move hot coals around and work over the grill without worrying about burning my hands or singeing the hair on my arms. They fit comfortably, give me enough grip to handle tools safely, and make cooking over the barbecue much more enjoyable. They’ve held up well after several uses and give me much more confidence when grilling. I’d definitely recommend them to anyone who enjoys cooking on the BBQ.

Big in size but nice but suitable for hot temperatures. Glove comes up to elbow and are thin enough to know what you’re picking up but thick enough to withstand heat.

Best gloves we've had so far. Our log burner throws out up to 9Kw heat and these gloves have handled the heat really well. Previous sets of gloves have burned through rapidly . These are solidly made and give full protection up the wrist. Highly recommended

Good quality fireproof gloves. Easy to put on and they fit great. I like that these are longer than our previous ones, so they cover wrists/some forearm too. Perfect for using with our log burner.

These gloves are awesome! They're lightweight, well constructed and, while I initially thought they were a bit pricey, having them in my hands now tells me this was a good value. Really happy with this set and it just officially replaced my beloved 12-year fire gloves for camping! The gloves came folded in a plastic bag and the smell of leather took over the moment I opened it. If you're sensitive to strong scents, open these outside and air them out a bit. It's a strong leather aroma. Like, just-walked-into-a-leather-store strong. Do with that what you will. The fingers have a reinforcing layer on the palm side of the gloves. The palm has the same reinforcing layer, although it goes all the way around the glove and that layer is also double-stitched for good measure. The thumb is reinforced on both sides. The stitching is quite nice – nice enough that they could use a bold, contrasting thread color, turning the stitching into an actual part of the design. Up close, it looks fantastic! There's even a handy loop if you like to hang your gloves. My last pair of fire gloves came in at 14" and I didn't think these, at 16", would be much of a difference. I was wrong. These gloves go more than halfway up my forearms and I'm eager to get them in front of an actual campfire cookout. Now, about the fit. I do have large hands. They're not huge, just large. So, the palm section was a good fit but the fingers were actually pretty snug. Snug enough that it was a bit of a relief to take the gloves off after a few minutes. That said, with some actual real-world use, I think they will loosen up a bit and mold perfectly around my fingers so I'm sticking with them. My very non-scientific test involved heating up a cast iron skillet on the stove for about 10 minutes and then picking it up (by the handle) to see just how long I could hold it for. The heat resistance was way better than my last gloves. I could have held that skillet until the cows came home. I think these gloves probably have a higher heat rating than my last pair. In a couple of my pics, I've flipped a glove inside out to show the sleeve and innards. I can really appreciate that they didn't go with lesser quality here just because it wouldn't necessarily be noticed by an average end-user. The inside appears solidly built. The forearm sleeve feels (and looks!) a lot like an insulated pant-leg – and it's more easily pliable than the glove body so it doesn't necessarily feel like you're wearing some kind of medieval warrior gauntlets. Anyway, if you haven't guessed by now, I'll just spell it out. These gloves are a great deal and a quality product. I would definitely recommend this set.

These work. Full stop. Okay, details :) I cook over lump charcoal in a kamado style ceramic cooker that happens to be big and green. My son's friend say's it look just like a lime, I'm thinking avocado. Whatever. Handling hot ceramics is not a game for the slow, but even the fastest is sometimes not fast enough. Good gloves let you grab and manipulate items and swap out kit for direct versus indirect cooking, but good manipulation is the enemy of thick insulation properties. I've tried a number of welding gloves with a number of ANSI ratings and promises. These gloves allow me to pick up a 450F plate setter and shuffle it out of the basket without a flinch. other gloves would have my fingers warm enough to sting and I'd throw off the gloves in pain. WIth these I can walk from the grill to the kitchen with a hot plancha and not feel any discomfort or excessive warmth. They work. buy them.
