Shadow Electronics SH-SB1 Single Disc Transducer for Upright Bass

Bought this pickup on a whim just to give it a try before getting serious and buying a much more expensive device. Shock-shock! This thing works exactly as I wanted without any problems! I used the included copper foil plus a layer of aluminum foil to get the disc size large enough to wedge correctly in the wing slit on the bridge. When plugged into my Fender Rumble 350 amp it sounds great throughout the normal bass registers. I have not encountered any feedback problems and I'm looking forward to giving it its first performance debut throughout the production of the 'Always Patsy Cline' show, beginning this month (20 performances). If any problems are encountered I will update this review, but so far thispickup is definitely a winner!

The transducer when put under the bridge makes the action a little thrown off unless you want to sand down your bridge which is kind of risky, but it's bearable even if you don't do it. Other than that, the A through about C tones on the G string give a little feedback, but as long as you keep the treble down it solves most of the problems. I would definitely recommend for the price it's at.

This never worked for me. I plugged it in and it was static instantly coming through my amp. I sprung for a Realist and this is now sitting in a drawer because it's useless to me.

I hate this product. It has to "warm up" before it actually works and by the time that half hour is up it causes awful, painful feedback. Thanks for nothing.

It is much better than I wished for! My only slight problem is that I had to build up the pickup to fit my bridge. I used the included copper foil tape and then used my aluminum foil tape to make up the rest of the gap. Sounds GREAT! I Recommend!!

It is a decent gamble to pay just under $40 for this pickup considering the high priced alternatives. Had to cut a small piece of wood to wedge it tightly in the bridge wing. The copper wrapping strip that is provided for the wedging is useless. Being quite a novice on the upright bass I wasn't too keen to buy a pickup that would require me messing with the bridge to get it under one of the feet, etc. This pickup works astonishingly well with my small practice amp. Double thumbs up on this one.

My only complaint is that the quarter inch plug is a bit challenging. At first I couldn't get my instrument cable to plug into it. After some testing and swapping I found that only two of my cables will actually click in, the others simply don't work. I assume this is an anomally with the component but it's still a pain.The sound it pretty good when plugged into a bass amp but there tends to be a little noise when handling/touching the instrument. Backing off on the treble through the mixer eliminates that without too much fuss.I deliberately chose the "low-end" option for amplifying my bass. I figured anything would be better than trying to use a mic on a stand and then being stuck in one place. I was right. This is much better and now I can be heard.

For $40, it honestly sounds better than I expected. Works through my Hartke combo as well as any PA I've gone through. If I were a professional I'd probably want something more hi-fi, and it seems like it might not take much abuse but for the money I'm totally satisfied.
