Absolutely love it
I bought this Unitek adapter to rescue files from a couple of ancient IDE drives I found in storage. Setup was incredibly easy, just plug and play. The one-touch backup button is a handy bonus, but I mostly used it for straight data transfers. I was really glad the kit includes a 12V power adapter, because 3.5 inch drives absolutely need it. It also worked flawlessly with a modern SATA SSD. Speeds were solid, and it recognized every drive instantly. Build quality feels decent for the price. I would recommend this to anyone who needs to access old hard drives or quickly clone a drive without opening their PC. A simple, effective tool that does exactly what it promises.

Worked as advertised!
I used this device to recover to hard drives from a couple old PCs that I was holding onto. Everything was quite straight forward and although it was kind of wonky on the first use, it has worked perfectly since! This has allowed me to retrieve files that I had given up for lost and finally scrap a couple rather old and defunct PCs. It did its job and I am very pleased!

Worked great for my situation.
This thing is great. I had SATA and IDE drives that I had laying around and needed to find out what was on them. It was relatively easy to use lining up the IDE slot was a little tedious because I couldn't quite tell if I need to go right or left more to line up all the pins. It worked as expected. Good purchase.

My experience with this product
My overall experience with this product has been quite satisfactory, so far. A couple of things, though. First, the transfer speed is very good. Although, as an example, I've transferred several videos from my 2TB Western Digital hard drive - formerly a 'MyBook' external drive - to other drives. A single video of about 780MB to 1GB will transfer in seconds at 100MB. When I transfer more than two - say 4 - videos in one operation, the transfer speed slows considerably, down from 100MB a second to as low as 19MB a second. I'm not complaining, just telling you what I noticed. All I really care about is a successful transfer, which has been accomplished every time. I've successfully connected to and transferred files from 2 other IDE internal drives, which are quite old and were also a part of the Dell tower that crashed on me. The only other thing I'll speak to is the IDE DVD/CD player I've attempted to connect to with no joy. The LED light blinking is a pretty good indication that the reader is trying to make it work. Also, the vibrations I feel when I place my hand on the player is another indication that the reader is trying to do its job. However, the player disk drawer will not open to allow me to do anything more. To be fair, this player caused me problems even when I had it in the original tower it was installed in. Perhaps it's just time to retire it. One other thing about the DVD player is something more of a question than anything else. What do I do for audio? There's an audio out connector from the player to the motherboard in the old tower setup. There's no such connection I can see with the reader. I suppose that if it worked the way I expected, transferring videos or whatever to another source wouldn't be a problem, yeah? As I stated earlier, I very happy with the product. If not for the situation with my DVD/CD player, I would have given it a five star rating. I'd recommend it to others, regardless. Thank you for the work you put into making it available. From a satisfied customer, Maurice

An unbiased and honest review
It's gotten to the point where I feel like Amazon can no longer be relied on to provide an accurate picture of which products are junk and which are not. Those pens that everyone is raving about? You order them, and they turn out to be bargain bin sticks of uselessness. That printer ink that everyone says is just as good as the expensive brand name? Smears all over the place. That $30 plug-in speaker being universally praised for sonic perfection? Cheap Chinese garbage that literally stops working within days, destined for the landfill. It's 2016, and Amazon is broken. If a product has an average rating of near five stars, it's now a complete mystery if the product is actually good, or if those 5 stars are merely a result of bribery, coercion, or lots of fake dummy accounts. (On a related note, it's always a fun game to do a keyword search of a product's reviews, particularly for the keywords "unbiased" and "honest." Chances are, you'll find that a good portion of the glowing reviews are from people who received the product for free or at a discount. Ask yourself how angry such people will be if that freebie breaks down in a week. Probably not as angry as an actual customer who threw away $30 of real money.) Which brings me to the $30 I just threw away on this supposedly five-star adapter. It enables you to read spare hard drives you've accumulated over the years through your desktop PC. At least I think that's what it's supposed to do. Mine, however, does a whole lot of nothing. And once again I've thrown away more money shopping at Amazon on something that serves no purpose other than as future real estate for the floating mass known as "garbage island." Honestly, buying on Amazon has turned into a complete crapshoot, a game of chance. It's almost like playing the lottery or trying to win at a carnival game where they blindfold you. Heck, you'd probably have better luck succeeding in Pin the Tail on the Donkey than you do at making a successful, informed purchase based on the reviews these days; at least Pin the Tail is free to play. [PS, there is this additional oddity I just noticed concerning this "Unitek" adapter: It looks virtually identical to the “Inateck” one that Amazon is also selling. I mean, what are the odds that two entirely separate, respectable tech companies would produce products that are the exact same except for slightly different branding on the top? Pretty kooky coincidence.]

A life saver
My very old DELL Windows XP computer refused to start up, and I was convinced that all was lost. In a desperate last attempt, I decided to use this adapter kit to connect the IDE HD to my new Windows 11 computer via a USB cable. To my absolute amazement, the old hard drive that had been sitting idle on my counter sprang back to life. While I can't speak for the cloning feature since I haven't tried it yet, this adapter kit has proved to be nothing short of amazing. It has given my ancient hard drive a new lease on life and allowed me to access all the valuable data stored on it.
