Better Spelling in 30 Minutes a Day (Better English series)

Really helped us. It is very detailed. It has tests to take then based on the test results it has you read certain pages to help with what you missed.

There are mistakes in Exercise 1.3, which is pretty much unforgivable for spelling book. However, I've looked high and low, and this is the best book I've been able to find. It's from the 1990s (for college students), so it's a little dated but still relevant. It's laid out well, not super condescending, and the words are ones that I have legitimate trouble with. I learned quite a bit from the instruction and the practices that I either didn't pay attention to in elementary school or was never taught. I've supplemented with a spelling app where I can upload my own word lists... like tenet (can't even google that word!), chauvinism, bureaucratic, etc.

This book unlike others where the author wants to impress you with their knowledge of how words are spelled just gives you good simple rules and information to become a good speller. It has helped me immensely and continues to do so as a reference. Well worth the purchase and effort to learn what it teaches.

I simply cannot say enough about this book as to how effective a tool it is if you want to improve your spelling. I bought 3 of these so each of my 2 sons and I are doing it together. It helps you identify your weaknesses and you work on those problem areas. Awesome for anyone and especially good for home school.

I got to this one yet. But I know if it is as good as the other one, i love it.

I was seriously confused when I went through the diagnostic tests with my daughter. The very first problem on one of the very first tests has the words "immediatly" and "enviroment" as being spelled correctly. What?!?!? I thought I was going insane. Maybe I read the answers for the wrong test?? Nope. Those are the words they had marked as being spelled correctly. I have not gotten past the diagnostic tests, and am now, seriously considering whether or not I want to proceed. I expected more from a book that promises "Better Spelling in 30 Minutes a Day." [I do realize book titles should be underlined, but was not able to do that on this review format. :) ]

I have gone through most of this book and it has helped some. I still struggle some with spelling, so I might need to try a different route.
