Mainly just to categorize and organize my ammo by caliber, brand, and weight. I filled one to the brim with loose (in small bags of 100) 9mm bullets. The weight including the box came out to 54lbs on the dot. The case does not show any structural weakness when I carry it by its handle and no bulging at the sides when sitting on the floor even with that much weight inside. However, I did notice a very small amount of sag in the very middle between the lid and body when carrying it by the handle (about 1/8 inch) but nothing that concerned me. With both latches closed I was completely confident that I could carry it around by the handle all day without issue. The sag was not enough to expose a gap but even a little gap could let moisture in so keep that in mind when you load these things up if you will be carrying them in the field and moisture or contamination is a concern. I imagine you could wrap a strap around the box and under the handle in the middle if you really had to but I feel like splitting the load up into more boxes would be the practical solution considering the price. All and all, I will continue to buy more as needed. This may be a insignificant point to most but I feel it's worth noting. The plastic these boxes are made of do not stink. Unlike a lot of cheap plastic products you may get from wal-mart or harbor freight that have that plastic solvent smell. Which in actiuallity is exactly what that smell is when and if you do smell it. They use solvents to help liquify the plastic and if not cured or treated properly, some solvent remains and can take months/years to evaporate out. During that time, your breathing it in if you keep anything like that inside your home. Does this have a mechanical hinge, or is it just plastic?** A: The Ammo Can has separate molded hinges. Two on the cover and two on the can. They are hinged with plastic pins on which allow for the opening and closing of the cover. **Q: What size lock do you need for this ?** A: FYI - This ammo can does NOT fit a lock with a 3/8 in diameter shank. The 3/8in diameter shank is too large. The Master locks I purchased have a hexagonal shank - and this may be part of the problem - but I really don’t think so. You’ll need something smaller than 3/8 in. **Q: Can this hold twenty 50rd boxes of 9mm, still in the box? Some reviews say yes, some say no.** A: Yes, depending on the size of the 50rd box. It easily holds 20 federal boxes per can. It easily holds 25 fiocci 50rd boxes but I had the handle fail due to the weight. **Q: Is this a good storage can for 12 gauge shot gun ammo?** A: I fit 10 each, 25ct boxes (250) of 2-3/4" Federal #8 Target Load shot in this exact can.
