An welcome expansion of Nonviolent Communication: a Language of Life
In Speak Peace..., Marshall Rosenberg builds on the foundation he laid in Nonviolent Communication: a Language of Life. He applies his communication methodology to the peacemaking so desperately needed with ourselves, our relationships, and our world. Written in a simple, conversational style, this book is an easy read. The work is in applying it, but it’s good work. May your peacemaking efforts grow through your encounter with this book.

Much more than the title says..
This book is not a 'read only' book, it is a 'do it/work on it' book. It's about making peace at three different, but so very much connected and intertwined, levels: a world of conflict; a personal relationship of conflict; a person of conflict. So many people speak of peace or about peace, but they bring no peace. And why not? Because one has to be at peace with oneself before one can truly bring peace in ones relationship or in the world. This book gives us the tools to do just that. We can make peace with ourselves and from there bring it into 'the outer world'. This is one of the most important books I have read for a long, long time. This book is learning (I am not finished yet by far..) me to be at peace with myself, which is something completely different from 'control myself' or terms like that. It gives me a milder, softer point of view about who I am, what I do, and why I did things that I did, in the way that I did them. Because of that, or together with that, it is also learning me to understand, and connect with, other people from a different, milder, softer point of view. And yet at the same time it makes me stronger. It is not about a weak 'peace' such as in 'avoiding conflict' or 'giving in'. But about a strong peace, because we can (learn to) see clearer what is happening inside ourselves and the other person(s) and act in a way that both we and our 'opponents' come out winning. This book is not only about speaking peace in a world of conflict. This is a book about finding peace within yourself and through that, being able to truly bring peace into your world, it is a book about healing and a book about 'winning together'; a book about hope for a split up and violent world. I love it and recommend it with all my heart.

Change your world, starting with you, the best way possible.
A great, great, great, book. It explains a whole new mindset of how we are educated to live and respond to our sourroundings. It definitely shows a better, compassionate, loving turanround look at ourselves, others and the world. Hope that this method could be more widespread in schools, workplace and governments. A breave man with an inner Ghandi. Bra-vo!

Very helpful for resolving conflicts!!!
The book teaches the readers how to communicate with others in a way that would resolve conflicts. The author, Marshall Rosenberg, describes a variety of situations where he used the principles of Nonviolent Communication to resolve conflicts. For example, he describes how he resolved conflicts that he experienced with his children. He also tells how he helped to resolve a conflict between the local government in St. Louis, MO and a street gang. In this book, Rosenberg provides the tools for the reader to convey his or her needs in such a way that others are likely to empathize with and understand the speaker. Rosenberg highlights the importance of focusing on feelings and needs. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning social skills, mediating conflicts for others, or finding better ways to fulfill his or her needs and desires.

Food for Thought
I found this book to have great suggestions for how to move beyond the accusatory language many of us engage in. As someone who coaches others daily as part of my job, the techniques presented hold great promise for helping resolve conflicts. My only caveat about this book was it gets a little "preachy" in places and periodically references God and spiritual concepts (even though it is from a New Age perspective rather than an organized religious perspective). I found that more of a distraction to the concepts presented within than anything else. But overall, the material is well presented and provides significant food for thought.

A recipe for peace of heart and mind.
This book is so valuable that I have purchased and shared several times over. Marshal's Compassionate Non-violent Communication is the perfect recipe to taking care of yourself, sharing your caring with others, and sharing your caring with the world. It not only gives peace of heart and mind, it also increases physical well being.

Great book for forward thinkers
I've read this and many of Marshall's other books. While they all have a lot of the same stories and information, they're more in context with each book. This one is a good read about how to bring about real social change and includes stories of Marshall's many dealing in settling conflicts. Highly recommended.

I wish it was longer
Dr Rosenberg gives a personalized discussion regarding de-conflicting our world through proper need recognition of others and ourselves coupled with direct yet peace-oriented language that many of us may never have considered and although will find difficult at first the rewards are boundless. I read this whole book on a flight from PA to FL, and it has given me a lot to think about in my day-to-day interactions with others. It would be great to attend an NVC workshop of his one day.
