Making Content Comprehensible for English Learners: The SIOP Model (4th Edition) 4th Edition

I bought this book for a class, but it was so easy to use and helpful that I chose to keep it after the class ended. The main thing I really learned from this book was the need for having language objectives along with content objectives so that students know what is expected. The lesson plans are helpful, and the authors really make this book user friendly. I used this book with my English language learners.

SIOP is an accesible, student-centered way to help English Language Learners and their teachers. The chapters included actual lessons that the reader can rate and then compare to acutal ratings given. There are numerous examples of techniques and strategies to implement in class. The writing is clear and straight-forward. I began using the model this year in my classes because I found the protocol so useful.

I got this book for my wife as she is becoming a teacher in Arizona - from what she has told me, though it is hard at times to internalize what is being said, she really has found this to be of use for her! Definitely a wise purchase!

The SIOP model has been used with such tremendous success, I'm grateful to have been required to learn about it through my graduate courses for ELs. The strategies and rubrics are valuable for any classroom, not just ELs. This should be required of all teaching credential programs. I've been teaching for 30 years and found this to be invaluable.

This is a great book for anyone wanting to learn about how to plan for ELL learners. I think teachers, whether general ed, ESL, Special Education etc...would benefit from many of the ideas in this book. I usually resell my textbooks but this one is a keeper.

I like the book itself, but it arrived with a huge rip and lots of bends on the back cover. Not the first time I’ve gotten a damaged book from Amazon. Not worth the “convenience.”

This book has a lot to offer any teacher who wants to help their students, not just ESL. When students want more of what you are you are doing, you know it is a good thing.

A good book for teachers to read and then keep as a reference and reread now and then. Online resources came with the book along with black line masters for SIOP lesson plans.
