Blazin' Bolt Rechargeable Lantern

So far there is nothing to dislike about this product. The main thing is that I have the security in knowing that this Emergency Light will work when called upon to do so.

This lantern is top of the line. All the other lanterns in the Bolt's class need D batteries, this one is rechargeable, which is an enormous benefit. I don't need extra batteries lying around, I don't spend ten bucks on bulky batteries and I can charge my phone or tablet to boot. I'm positive this lantern will make blackouts and camping easier and less complicated. Anyone who lives in a hurricane area like I do knows how important a high quality light is. You don't want to go through a multi-day power outage without good light. The cheaper rechargeable lanterns serve a purpose but they are in a different class. This lantern is considerably brighter and sturdier. Most importantly those smaller lanterns have about 7 hours of power, the Bolt lasts 10-20 times longer, which is the difference between one night of light and weeks of light. The specs are great. It has six modes, so I have the flexibility of the 400 lumen high setting which is really strong or I can use it on low as ambient light and have hundreds of hours of light in one charge. I charged my iPhone and tablet and barely put a dent on the battery level. This is exactly what I was looking for. I'm almost excited for the next power outage.

Excellent ! We walk our dog sometimes in the evening and this lantern is the best with all different settings !

I charged it up, took it camping last weekend to Wednesday and for everything it is, the diffuser is horrible. It is blindingly bright, no doubt about it, the 400 lumens kicks tail and takes names but is all of it usable? No. While on a table top it won't illuminate down to actually provide good task lighting for meal prep or in my case lighting card games for the kids in the tent during the storm. I found with the diffuser removed and inverted it provides good area lighting, I used the red light at night to find my tent and also not attract bugs in the process. If hung from paracord it could easily illuminate the area we were in and for a lantern it works ok. Why 2 stars you're thinking? I'll break it down numerically. 1. I love Streamlight products, I've had them for 15+ years, I trust them. This is not Streamlight, I scanned in the menus and landed on this color not knowing the brand was Blazing Bolt, not a model of SL, my fault. 2. The diffuser is horrible in my opinion, you can't hold the lantern in front of you to see your path because It blinds you and It doesn't cast light on the ground well. 3. Waterproofing became a concern after I found out it wasn't ip67 but a lower rating. We got caught in a nasty storm, the lantern was kept under cover the whole time and while it worked I was really concerned it would fail out in the open if I had to start packing up camp. 4. I would return it however I'm afraid it is too used from the 3 nights in the elements. Overall I'm just disappointed in the diffuser, it needs to be remade to be directed at the ground more without the user tilting the lantern, then it would be a great product.
