As a home school mom I didn't need anything super fancy but still wanted something that would amaze my 7th grader and last for my kindergartener and pre-k students. This has been awesome, it seems to be well made, can be used with batteries or just plugging it in. Ready and truly the only complaint I have is the eye piece it came with has something caught in it that I can't get to to clean (it's in between the glass) luckily it's off to the side so it isn't a huge deal and I am contacting the company to have that replaced.

I know that's a little nerdy but I don't care. I always wanted my own microscope but was unwilling/unable to pay a thousand dollars for one. I was also not going to go buy a little plastic toy one (again LOL). When I recently got bitten by the "I want my own microscope" bug again I told my husband (he didn't know that about me) I was surprised to find that he too wanted one! We looked at a few, decided that $100 was reasonable and ordered this one. So far it rocks! I don't know anything about optics or lenses, but the magnification seems good and we were counting red blood cells just fine the other day. Disclaimer: we are both educated in teh sciences so we have microscope experience. For a not-in-the-lab one, this works just fine.
