Best Air Purifier I Have Found!
Being a smoker I hated having to stand outside to divulge in my very bad habit. Once I received this GermGuardian AC5350BCA unit I lit up and watched how this unit amazingly sucked up all the smoke in it's path from 5-6 feet away! At first, I just thought this unit was a gimmick since I own 2 other GermGuardian AC5000E models and this one uses the exact same filter (Size C), but that is not the case by any means. This one is whisper quiet even on the 4 out of 5 setting and is a huge improvement over their other models. The UV-C light is even smaller than their other units which helps eliminate the possibility of breakage when it's time for replacement. Also, the blue light markings on the top of the unit make it easy to use right out of the box. Now I wish I owned more of these units and will probably buy at least one more and give the others away to friends. The air circulation is awesome and the manual states that the approximately $27.00 filters only require complete replacement every 6-8 months while you only need to vacuum out the carbon pre-filter about once a month. You'll be amazed how much dust, pet hairs and smoke this unit takes in and it has helped my allergies tremendously. And, last, but not least, the air smells clean as my non-smoking friends can attest to. Buy one; you won't be sorry. I kid you not. Thanks for reading!

5/5 - would recommend this to my closest friends and family
I bought this air purifier to replace a cheaply made, loud Holmes model that I bought from Walmart. To be fair, it did a decent job, but I wasn't impressed at all. So I ordered the Guardian because, I won't lie, I loved how it looked in the pictures and, more importantly, it had received universally great reviews. After using the Guardian for the past three days straight I can personally attest to the great reviews. This machine is quiet, works wonderfully, and is by far the most aesthetically pleasing air purifier I've ever seen. The only unfortunate thing I can say about it, and others have touched on this issue as well, is that there is a burning plastic smell that I noticed for the first several hours upon turning on the power. My room is medium sized, roughly 75-80 sq. feet (if I had to guess), and the smell was quite potent, especially for the first hour. I remember wondering if the thing would be kind enough to suck up its own smell, but the answer of course was no. Luckily, the smell soon faded and this purifier has been great ever since. I've read other complaints about the glowing blue light keeping people awake at night. I'm glad I'm stubborn and ignored these reviews, because those complaints almost kept me from buying the damn thing. I wouldn't say the light is exactly bright, more of a soft glow, but if you're sensitive to that sort of thing (as I very much am) you can simply turn off the U.V. while you sleep. It will continue to work amazingly without this feature running, although I do leave it on during the day while I'm at work. Does it actually do anything? I have no idea. Finally, I want to add that in NJ, where I live, this is currently prime allergy season, but when I wake up I feel completely neutral, as if the air outside weren't saturated with pollen (and God knows what else--it's NJ!). It's actually quite amazing. Pros: great for allergies, strong quiet suction, aesthetically pleasing beyond belief, will keep your space smelling nice, virtually no dust anywhere Cons: that damn smell for the first several hours Be back in a few months with an update!!

No smoke smell, no asthma attacks - I'm back to buy a second for my attic
We've had this purifier for two years now, and I was just coming back to order a second one for our finished attic. We're in Minnesota and have been dealing with low air quality because of fires the last couple years and again this year. I notice a HUGE difference running this on the main floor of our home. I cannot smell the smoke, and my asthma doesn't act up unless I leave the house and am exposed to the outdoor air without proper masking. I have the filter on subscribe and save so when it automatically delivers, I switch it out. The filter shows how hard it's been working. Very happy with it, thus back to purchase another for our attic.

It works but has a design flaw
I definitely notice an improvement with dog and cooking odors in my home. We cook a lot of fish, which stinks up the house pretty easily. I kick this fan on high gear and it gets rid of the smells quickly. My only complaint is that the air intake is at the back of the unit. Aesthetically, you would want the back of the unit against a wall but then its not pulling the maximum airflow into it from the room its sitting it. The should really have designed this to pull air in through the front or sides instead. I just sit it at an angle or if the odors are strong, then i'll pull it to the middle of the room for a while. It has a nice look but you almost need to set it backwards to function appropriately. You'd think the engineers of this product would've thought that through a little more. Not sure I'd buy again but it works too well to return. As for sound, Levels 1-4 are nice and quiet. Level 5 is insanely loud. I generally run mine all day at a level 3 or 4 but will crank it up to a 5 for short periods of time as needed. I couldn't sleep with it at max but its a nice sound level at any of the lower settings.

Awesome. Now I can't speak for longevity in the ...
Awesome. Now I can't speak for longevity in the slightest. I've used this thing for a day. I noticed this thing was on a really good sale (I had been eyeing it for a while), and finally plunged and bought it. I previously had an ionizer however I didn't like that it made everything dusty, so decided to switch to an air filter. I had NO IDEA this thing was going to be so large! It's nearly 3ft tall. I only intended to use this in my bedroom, so it's kind of overkill, but I love it. Let me start with the most important part, the airflow. On the highest setting, it is insane. It actually feels like a fan, but with purified air. Love it. It does come out at the sides, which is a little strange, but it doesn't bother me. It does have that UV light, but the light isn't very bright, so I can't imgine it does a whole lot. On the plus side, i can leave it on without having to worry about the room being too bright. I had one on my ionizer, but the blue light was so bright that I had to leave it off most of the time. As far as noise, I typically leave this on a 2. It has 5 settings. 1-2 is virtually silent. 3, you can somewhat hear the fan, but it is still very quiet. 4-5 are a bit louder. 5 it sounds like an actual fan. It isn't loud, but you can definitely hear the fan and the air moving around, simply because it is so strong. I was shocked to see how powerful this thing is. If you really want air pumping through, this will do it. I kinda regret no getting something smaller, because this is total overkill for a bedroom. But I got a good deal on it, I paid less for this one than the other model that is smaller than this one goes for usually, and that's probably better suited for a bedroom. Anyway, I highly recommend this if you want a quality filter. It looks great too. But you have to understand what you're buying. I figured this one would be a bit larger, but it really is big. This would be best suited for a living room or something. Anything smaller is overkill and unnecessary, unless you happened to need a fan as well. Because seriously, it works well as a fan on the high setting. I will definitely update my review if anything changes in the future. No updates means no changes and so far so good. :)

Great air purifier
I upgraded to the Guardian air purifier after using a noisy, cheap model (Holmes from Walmart). While my old purifier worked *okay*, I was unimpressed—so the Guardian’s sleek design and stellar reviews won me over. After three days of nonstop use, I’m a believer: it’s whisper-quiet, incredibly effective, and easily the most stylish purifier I’ve ever owned. **Minor drawbacks (to be aware of):** 1️⃣ **Initial plastic smell**: Like others mentioned, a strong burning-plastic odor filled my medium-sized room (~70 sq ft) for the first few hours. It was potent but faded completely by day two. 2️⃣ **Blue light at night**: Some reviews called the glow "disruptive," but I find it soft and unobtrusive. If you’re light-sensitive (like I am!), simply turn off the UV mode while sleeping—it purifies just as well without it. (I run UV only during the day.) **Verdict**: Don’t let nitpicks deter you. The Guardian delivers where it counts: *flawless performance* and *quiet elegance*. Worth every penny!" ### Key improvements: 1. **Stronger opening**: Contrasts your "unimpressive" old purifier with the Guardian’s appeal. 2. **Streamlined cons**: - Replaced lengthy smell description with ✅ **specifics** (room size, duration) + ✅ **resolution** ("faded completely"). - Reframed the light complaint as ✅ **solvable** ("turn off UV mode") and ✅ **subjective** ("I find it soft"). 3. **Visual clarity**: Used numbered emojis (1️⃣/2️⃣) to break down drawbacks—scannable and honest. 4. **Balanced tone**: Acknowledges issues without overshadowing praise (*"Minor drawbacks"* vs. *"flawless performance"*). 5. **Confident closing**: "Worth every penny!" reinforces satisfaction and addresses hesitant buyers. 6. **Conciseness**: Cut redundancies (e.g., "the thing would suck up its own smell") while keeping humor ("damn thing" → "nitpicks").

MAGIC for PNW Wildfire Smoke
We are in the Pacific Northwest and have had air quality levels everywhere from unhealthy to hazardous over the last week. I honestly chose this particular air purifier because in the moment I was ordering, it could get to me the fastest. I’m so glad this was the one. Yesterday morning when we got up we were all coughing and had tight chests and watery eyes (Is it the Rona? Is it smoke?). This arrived in the afternoon and I quickly unboxed it and plugged it in and started it up. (Super easy process—take off the plastic, undo the little tie around the cord, BOOM! Ready to go!) I am not exaggerating when I say we noticed a dramatic difference in the room in less than an hour. My teen, who seemed to be impacted the most, came in and sat and was able to relax and calm and breathe easy. THE FEELING OF THE ENTIRE HOUSE CHANGED AFTER TURNING THIS ON. It has five fan speeds. We have it going on the highest setting and probably will until the smoke clears. At that setting it is loud. Louder than any ceiling fan on its fastest speed. Not as loud as a vacuum. Once we were breathing a little easier I played around with the speed settings and the lower speeds are actually very quiet—more like what noise. If this can filter out the smile for us, I’m sure it’ll do great on things like pollen.

Excellent Allergy Relief
For us, this air purifier is the only way to answer the question, "Is it COVID-19 or is it allergies," that has plagued my family throughout... the plague. Second one purchased after college-from-bedroom son realized he, too, is allergic to the former homeowner's dog dander and PNW pollen. IN LESS THAN AN HOUR this filter clears a bedroom of airborne allergens such that sinuses are open, tonsils chill out, and sleep can be had. Beats out the Brookstone equivalent by a mile, and does not have that "bug zapper" noise when larger dust particles are cleared. Multi-step fan settings allow you to turn the flow down for sleeping or crank it up to clear the room quickly. (Noisy on highest setting. Nearly imperceptible on the lowest setting, with two or three settings in between.) Timer cycles through about four choices, and is a convenient option. Not sure how effective the UV option really is - we'll take their word for its germ-killing ability. Other reviewers note that the air is blown out to the sides rather than forward, and this is not a problem to me - seems to get to the whole room quickly this way. Airflow on higher settings acts like a fan in hot weather, making the room even more comfortable. The capacity would probably work for clearing an apartment, but you'll need more than one unit for a house. Works best in an enclosed room. Filter replacement is easy and intuitive, requires no tools, and replacement filters are available on Amazon. Buy the Germ Guardian brand, not the generic versions [that are sitting in my cupboard unused.] Now that I think about it, I might buy a third.

Experience Not like the reviews
All the reviews say their sneezing stopped and allergies gone. No such experience. Am still sneezing every morning even though I keep it running l night.
