S&B Wasabi Powder, 1.06-Ounce

Love this stuff. It has dried wasabi in it and it has the taste of wasabi combined with hot mustard. This is Wasabi and Hot Mustard Powder. It's hard to find where I live and I happened to come across it on Amazon. I usually buy the hot mustard all the time but my store doesn't carry this. I purchased 2 cans as these are the 1oz cans. THE GOOD: Taste great and has the Earthy Wasabi flavor. Will definitely light up your nostrils. Almost as good a real fresh wasabi. Not overtly expensive like real Prepared Wasabi so it does the trick if you eat a lot of sushi or Asian food that you like the puch of wasabi. THE BAD: Just and FYI, this is not 100% Wasabi powder. It contains wasabi so the can says, it has a wasabi and horseradish and mustard. But it works for me as real Wasabi is soooo prohibitively expensive and not stable to store if you dont use it frequently. This is a powder in a sealed can that will last for a long time THE BAD: NNothing bad to report.

Just mix a little cold water, as it does not need much to get a paste. Tasty, for sure. Love it on my sushi and sashimi and add a pinch to the soy sauce. Reordered, already!

This is super hot. Just getting into sushi so maybe all wasabi powder is the same. But the powder will work for me, won’t spoil.

This is the first time I tried wasabi powder and upon initially mixing with mayonnaise and sour cream, it was bitter and not hot. I let it set/sit in the mayonnaise and sour cream for a while and the bitterness went away and you could also then taste the hot. I read that most wasabi has glucosinolates in it which make it bitter and if you add water (hence a liquid, mayonnaise and sour cream) perhaps that is what took the bitterness away.

The title is in response to the review that claimed there was neither. Either that person has extremely resistant flavor glands or something else is going on. I mixed mine a bit different than the instructions read. It read 5 teaspoons of powder to 3 teaspoons of water. Three and three seemed like plenty for one mix and it was. It really has a nice kick. I’ll be using more tonight after it sat in the fridge over 24 hours so I’m thinking it will be stronger..

Not sure why this was rated with anything above two stars because frankly it has zero wasabi bite to it. Whether I am sprinkling it as is or mixing it into a paste it just does not have that fresh horseradish aroma and flavor that I would expect. There are certainly notes of mustard but they are vague and again they are overpowered by a chalkiness and pastiness that should not ever be part of a wasabi paste or powder. Unfortunately once you open this product there's no chance that you can return it, however I hope to prevent other people from buying it because it really is not what you would expect of a wasabi powder

Wasn't sure what to.expect but much better than anticipated. Can make your own wasabi paste or sprinkle on peanuts for a nice kick

Tried another brand which I found tasteless. This much better with a bit of kick. I don’t know what real wasabi tastes like but this tastes similar to the ones served in the Japanese restaurant in UK, so I am happy with it! 😊
