Wonderful and informative
As a practitioner of Oriental Medicine for over 30 years, I have read many texts and books on this ancient art.... The Moon Over Matsushima is one of those books you find that is quite a pleasant surprise.... Merlin's style of writing is relaxed, humorous and informative.... I highly recommend this to any practitioner who is interested in deepening their knowledge and skill in moxibustion.

excellent purchase
Birch: "... breath taking vista of information and perspectives..."I would have liked more drawings and fotos in the "how to" section, like Wilcoxs'.incredibly important - where NOT to moxa. Thank you Young.I read and re-read with non diminishing pleasure

Stunning
I developed a passion for moxibustion while studying Japanese Meridian Therapy as a student of Oriental Medicine. Since then, I have experimented with its use on my own as I find that there is not a great deal of resources out there for practitioners who desire to incorporate moxibustion (particularly direct moxibustion) into their practice. When I saw this book I knew I had to have it. When I started reading it I couldn't put it down. The Moon Over Matsushima is a brilliant book for many reasons. I love that it combines the history of moxibustion with modern day clinic research and the practitioners own clinical experience. For me, that is a trifecta of perfection. Merlin Young's writing style is graceful and conversational. It makes for an easy but profoundly effective read. Finally, the information presented in the appendixes is a dream come true. If you are at all interested in moxibustion therapy, this is a must read.

Easy to read. Some very useful ideas and formulas! Having the suppliers of certain moxibustion materials helps too!

Very hard to read, which is a bad idea for a book with content this good.
The content of the book is excellent, but man the choices they made when publishing this book were terrible. The font size is very small (way too small!), and the first copy I had to return because it looked like the printer used half-tone (i.e. half the ink necessary) making some pages almost impossible to read. Please, for the love of god, publish books with a large enough font size so they are legible, and use a publishing house that uses enough ink, it helps your message get out.

It is in my opinion the best documented book about Moxa
Anybody interested in Moxa, should read this book. It is in my opinion the best documented book about Moxa, its history and its application. It covers a wide field, interesting for scholars of Chinese medicine as for those who are interested in the history of medicine in Asia. It is written in a very nice way, which makes this book easy to read even though it is very profound.

important to Kindle buyers- beware that essential appendix is omitted
So far this is an excellent read in the history of Chinese medicine and Chinese history in general. This is not simply a dry clinical practice manual but is a thoughtful and entertaining read. HOWEVER, be forewarned that the Kindle version intentionally omits the all-important appendix that contains the extensive compendium of moxa treatments. Some people will be buying this simply for that appendix. You won't realize it is missing until you read the first few pages and are told by the author that the appendix is available as a seperate manual or a kindle product (for roughly the same cost as the kindle book). It's still a good deal over the hardcopy at less than half the total cost, but had I known the complete cost to get the whole kindle version was $20 not $10, I would have opted for the hardcopy. I'm not complaining about the cost so much as the fact this was not made plainly clear in the product description. I credit this failure/deception to Amazon, not to the author. Be forewarned that you will need to make two purchases in order to get the entire book. I still highly recommmend the book and look forward to many hours of good reading and learning. Probably the way to go is it get the Kindle version of the book and then buy a hard copy of treatment appendix to keep in your clinic.
