I'm not sure what size to get. How does one choose the correct size?

can you wash these gloves?

I have washed them, but I have not put them in the dryer. I prefer to air dry, but if you do I suggest you use the low setting to protect from shrinkage.

Are these gloves good for cold temperatures?  Working in coolers in back room of retailer.

They're not really meant to keep you warm, but are thicker than the Ironclad ones I've gotten. I would assume if you're just loading boxes into a walk-in refrigerator you'll be fine, but it all just depends on how cold it really is and how you're typically affected. My suggestion is just to layer. Wear various layers that you can remove if you need, like a flannel and jacket over a thermal, thick socks and legwarmers, and especially a hat of some sort (keeping your head warm will be the most beneficial for regulating your body temperature).

I want to buy these for someone who gardens. Will he be protected from rose bush thorns?

The palm of the glove has padding on it that should be thick enough to protect from rose bush thorns. The back side of the hand only has padding on the knuckle area so he would not be completely protected on the backs of his hands.
