Delighted!
My beautiful 50 year old Magnavox fruit wood console went kaput. For me, fixing it is not an option. However, I decided to use the Magnavox as external speakers. I hooked up an external amp and it worked out very well, but I was unable to get really great base sound. I figured out the problem: The evolution of speakers is that in the 40's, one big speaker in your radio was great. Then along came stereo and everyone needed at least two speakers. Now-a-days, any stereo system is assumed to have at least 3 speakers; left, right, and a subwoofer. The L and R outputs of my new Yamaha amp were not designed to drive my 50 year old 15' cones, whereas the original 50 year old Magnavox amp was. I am as pleased as can be with this subwoofer. I state unequivocally that my great 50 year old Magnavox AstroSonic 100 now sounds every bit as good as the day I bought it. The new Yamaha subwoofer was not what I expected. The last subwoofer I bought was in the 1980's. I expected the woofer to boom out base from its tuned port. What actually happened is inexplicable to me: While sitting on my sofa listening to my console, I can perceive absolutely nothing coming from the subwoofer which is placed on an adjacent wall to my Magnavox. The base, according to my ears, actually seems to be coming from my console. I an not an audio engineer, and I can not explain this, but the results are delightful. I have decided to add the following to all my reviews: Beware! Some "reviewers" will trash a product for no reason simply because they are paid to do so or because they sell competitive products. Other "reviewers" will give products - that they have never seen and never used - glowing 5 star ratings - for a fee. Some honest reviewers do not understand what a product is for or how to use it and will trash a product simply because they are just plain dumb.

Great LFE /Subwoofer
Adding the SW210BL powered Subwoofer to the LFE (.1) channel greatly improved the Low Frequency Effects response of the system to a point where is it sounds very much like the audio in an actual theater. The upright design construction and small size makes it easier to place this unit than many similarly performing larger units while not sacrificing performance. I was somewhat apprehensive when ordering the SW201 but was very favorably surprised at the excellent effects this relatively small unit delivers; and all at at very reasonable cost.

What I wanted, no auto power off though
I would have given it 5 stars easily, but with no auto power off option I can't. I wanted something low profile that would fit behind my cabinet. It may be tall but it's really thin and not an eyesore if you need to sit it out in the open. Nice booming bass with great lows. It has a manual 0-10 level knob and a power button on the back. A green light is on the front to indicate it is on. It can get quite loud but even at low volume gets the bass across to fill in the low end.

Disappointed.
Compact , but really can't recommend for music, especially for the price. Underpowered and muddies the sound due to lack of crossover control. Considerable port noise once the gain is turned beyond 9 o'clock. Generally love Yamaha products but this is an anomaly. I bought a Jamo J-110 to replace it and couldn't be happier. Maybe this Yamaha would work in a very small room. Didn't buy on Amazon.

A High Quality Product
I recently purchased a smart tv (Sony) and decided to splurge and buy a new sound system to go with it. For my subwoofer, I chose the Yamaha NS-Sw210BL advanced YST II Subwoofer because of my past experience, as a musician, with other Yamaha products - guitars, 20 channel power mixer,p.a. speakers and other stuff.I am extremely pleased with the high quality of this subwoofer especially for the low price.Several times during the first two weeks my wife and I truely believed the thunder we were hearing was outside and not coming from our new home theater system. All the guys in my band also agreed that it sounds great (and they are really primadonnas). Its great to get quality at an affordable price.

Great compact subwoofer
Great, reliable compact subwoofer. Over 5 years in and after 2 interstate moves and it's still going strong. Just enough bass at the maximum setting, and can get pushed quite a bit further externally. Very clean design, light enough to handle but weighty enough to feel quality.

Super buy and sound
Mounted this under our sofa and for the money (actually any amount) this creates a very realistic bump in our surround system. The thin design, standbuy provided by switched powerstrip, and very tight sound from the internal amp make it perfect for under sofas and beds. I suspect it would do well anywhere because it does a better job than some of our more expensive subwoofers.
