It's no mystery. THIS STUFF WORKS!
Take a look at the pictures. THIS STUFF WORKS! The Boos Block Mystery oil and the Boos Block Board Cream work as a team. Although you can use either/or. I highly suggest you use both to get the full effect of just how great these products are. If you have cutting boards that have never been treated or are old with lots of use on them, this stuff will make them better than new. It is a two step process if you want the maximum protection and conditioning. Takes a bit of time but well worth it. You invested some good money for those wood cutting boards so why not invest some time to make sure they last. To get started make sure boards are clean and dry. Pour Mystery oil on board and rub a coat of oil on the whole board (top, bottom, sides). Wait 5 minutes and wipe off the excess. Let board sit overnight or all day depending when you oiled it. After it sits overnight, take a look and see if there's any dry spots left or spots where it needs a touch up. If it looks good move on to the Board Cream. The oil can be drippy so take care for spills. I used a bath towel under and elevated the board on a wire rack w/ legs for air circulation. The cream is a mixture of food grade mineral oil and beeswax. Squeeze a line or two on the board and rub it on the whole board. I used my hands to smooth it and rub it into the board. It will form a creamy layer over the whole board. As with the oil you're going to let the board rest overnight or all day to allow for the cream to penetrate the board. Then wipe off any excess, buff with a clean dry towel, and get ready to see the results of your time and effort. Remember to keep wiping till all the excess cream is gone, then buff. Your board will look so nice you won't want to use it. For best results use in conjunction with the board cream. John Boos Butcher Block Board Cream, 5 oz, Cream

Effective
If you have a wood cutting board, especially an end grain board, mineral oil treatment is an important maintenance task. There's plenty of food-grade mineral oil sources out there and any will do the trick. Boos Mystery oil is primarily mineral oil but it does had a couple of other ingredients that give it an edge over the standard stuff. In my opinion it's worth the extra couple of bucks. I use both this and Clark's Cutting Board Finish Wax. I actually like what the wax does better but it's not something meant to be used as frequently, better suited for longer periods between applications. Often an oil and a finish wax are both part of a total maintenance program, but if I could only use one I would choose this oil, it's more versatile. Unlike the finish wax, you can easily use the oil for a small touchup as well as a full application, with less effort. Though it's primarily for my cutting board I also use it on wooden utensils and wood-handled kitchen knives with great results. Then there's one effect that I'm not sure is really true or just my imagination. My cutting board is end-grain and at times it can be challenging keeping it from absorbing odors from stuff like onion, garlic, etc. and soap cleaning doesn't always do the trick. With this oil, for one thing a well-oiled board is less likely to absorb odors, but it seems to me like it actually will displace the ordorants. I don't mean cover up, I mean displace. Like as it soaks in, it absorbs the odorants and then when I wipe off the excess it removes them. I do sometimes see some extra color to the excess oil I wipe off. But it might just be my imagination. Either way, keeping the board clean and well oiled has helped control odor. I plan to stick with this brand.

Consistency and Elbow Grease get you great results with this oil
I have tried a variety of products to protect my wood items and find this product to be one of the best. There really isn't a short cut to protecting chopping blocks, boards, islands or wooden utensils. It takes your elbow grease plus consistency. My husband enjoys eating his breakfast while reading the newspaper every morning at our kitchen island. Needless to say, paper ink is left behind on the island. Know the problem? Well, I now have a towel my husband puts down on the island and that does help. What helps even more is regular cleaning and application of this oil. The elbow grease Specifically, I pour a good amount into a small glass bowl and warm in the microwave after I've cleaned the island top. Next I take a soft cloth and, dipping the cloth in the warmed oil, generously spread the oil evenly around the entire top a well as the sides in circular motion. I usually do this at the end of the day and at this point leave everything to soak as long as reasonably possible. This is usually when I also take the time to wipe down chopping boards, cooking utensils, etc., since my hands are oily anyway. By the way, as a bonus - I find the oil to be very kind to my cuticles and hands, too! If you don't like that oily feeling, gloves are great to use! Next comes the elbow grease. Using a clean cloth I rub the oil into the wood following the grain. This takes time to do. This is also when you begin to see the beauty of your work. I've found this particular brand excellent at soaking in and then providing a nice protection without sticky residue as well as leaving no oily smell behind. Two qualities I have not found using other similar products. Bottom Line: If you are looking for an oil that provides protection and delivers nice results, this is the product to try!

Works but comes off after washing twice
Honestly didn't know that this was the "correct" way of treating your wood chopping board until I looked this product up. I've never oiled my chopping boards before. This seemed to make the board "healthier" and not so flaky and dry. Previously it almost seemed ashy and that splinters would come off if you scratched it with your finger. This returns it to more or less a factory finish. Imagine a pair of wooden salad tongs - kind of like that. That being said, you do need to apply it about every 3 times you use the chopping board and wash it. It comes off since I (and I assume you do, too) use soap when you wash it. In that sense, it is not as durable as, say, a polyurethane coating that you would finish a table with - but I'm glad. Just like seasoning a cast iron skillet, a little goes a long way. I expect this bottle will last a very long time. This is one of the better cost per fluid ounce options for board oil.

Great for all your wood food utensils and serveware
Love this stuff. I used it for all of my cutting boards, charcuterie board, wooden salad bowl, wood cooking utensils and rolling pins. It really soaks into the wood well. Very pleased. I used the paste to finish off the cutting boards. So happy to have found this.

Boos Mystery oil
The product is one of a two part system for oiling cutting boards. I was impressed with how quickly my order was processed and received. The bottle was very well sealed . It is perfect for sealing and refurbishing the wood as the board dries out over time and with use. It is easy to use and works well.

Expensive but does it's job.
Excellent product, wish there were Indian makes to choose from but if you need food grade mineral oil this seems to be the only item available. If someone reading this knows of an Indian outlet that sells food grade mineral oil please leave a reply.
