Excellent piece of equipment!
I purchased this transmitter along with two base stations over a year ago. It has worked perfectly and is just what I needed for a driveway alarm. After purchasing 3 different brands and wasting lots of money replacing batteries every 4-6 months and no alarms or false alarms, this was the answer. I installed it in a waterproof battery box (cut a hole in the front for the sensor and at top for antennae) and placed it on a 4 foot piling about 400ft from the one base station and it about 500ft from the other base station in my husband's aluminum shop. It never fails to give off a signal. It tells me each time a vehicle passes or a deer or even the bastard squirrel that chewed off the rubber antennae. After replacing the antennae with a 10" of thick copper pipe I believe the signal is even stronger...and no chance of squirrel chewing ever again. I have only had to replace the battery after 14 months of use and it does let you know when the battery is getting low due to repeated signals or half alarms. The two base stations work perfectly also. I have just ordered two hand held walkie talkies for when we are out in the woods.

Very reliable with great long distance coverage
This Dakota Alert MURS Transmitter joins three others we have had since 2004. The other three are still going strong after 17 years! Love them and totally recommend them! Able to send a signal over 400 ft to the base station . Picks up 98% of vehicles & people basing by the Transmitter. Batteries last approx 6 to 12 months depending on amount of traffic going by. Only down side is they also pick up critters, like dogs and deer passing by as well. However, system is well worth the money. You can sync up to 4 transmitters to one base. My only wish is that you could connect more than 4 transmitters to one base. Twice the number would be great to create a perimeter around our property.

They work as advertised
Love being able to get a radio broadcasted alert when 2020 zombie aliens are invading my property, even works with people on foot, cars, and deer. The range is excellent, and so far the battery life has been great. I wish you could change the voice up a bit and use more than 4 zones. Zombies can come from any direction and the property is big enough that I really would like to be able to use quite a few more. Plus, if I'm using another radio it's nice to know it's my unit beyond the privacy code.I had one years ago that failed, but it had fallen off the post and lay there sensor straight up for several months during heavy rain. The entire unit filled completely with water. If it hadn't fallen off the mount (my fault) I"m sure it would still be fine. The new units I bought recently (this review) seem to be constructed well. They have gone through quite a few good rain storms already with no issues.

Best Driveway Alarm
The two Dak0ta units I just purchased are to add to the existing unit that has performed faithfully for the last 15 years. The original unit was mounted at the end of my 1/4 driveway and the alert could be heard up to three miles away. Only maintenance has been to change batteries, best done in late fall so there are fresh batteries during cold weather. New units are programmed and mounted, working perfectly. The original unit still works but has 15 years of wear and tear, needs a bit of TLC before being put back out. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Great product but two modifications make it evenbetter
I have been using two of these on my property for over a year and they work great. Just bought two more to monitor a back driveway. The two complaints that I see a lot can be easily fixed.1)- the antenna connections and the pull out antenna will not keep out water. I recommend wrapping the antenna joints and the connector at the base in some kind of sealant. I used butyl putty tape from my RV windows but I'm sure there are other options.2)- the AA batteries do not last that long if you get frequent traffic. Mine lasts 6 monts with around 6-8 cars per day. According to other reviews online this product is designed to work on voltages up to around 12v so I just use a small 12V game camera battery and a small solar charger that you can get specifically for them. Drill a hole in the bottom of the housing, run wires through the hole and seal with butyl tape. Never have another dead battery.Note: you can also use a regular weather/police scanner to hear the alerts on multiple frequencies. Very handy.Very good product.

Good alert system
We have a couple of these installed around our property. It is very important that the unit is protected from water getting in through the antenna. I have installed a rubber gasket, made out of an old inner-tube, over the antenna. This seems to work well. I also installed another battery holder so each of my units has 12 AA batteries in them rather then 6. The extra battery power has allowed the units to last for at least 6 months with constant every day use. We live in a cold climate so care needs to be taken to remove any snow from the sensor as it will not send an alert if snow is allowed to remain in contact with the sensor. We have no trouble with the distance from the receiver being a factor as our sensors are only about 200 ft. away. As far as reliability goes I have had some sensors that failed in about a year and after installing the gasket on the new ones they are still working after 5 years.
