Excellent performer
Tiring of the feeble & unreliable WiFI reception 2 floors up from where our EE router is obliged to sit, I thought I'd give a WiFi extender a try. I was expecting sluggish but reliable performance but I'm getting the speeds I'd expect when sat next to the router. I could imagine setting up might be tricky for those who wouldn't ordinarily take an interest in such things but I found it straightforward enough once I'd bothered to grasp how it does what it does. I've no idea if this particular device or brand is better than any other but the few bits & pieces of Netgear stuff I've bought over the years have been remarkably trouble-free so although I haven't had it long enough to vouch for its ability to stay connected & not spontaneously combust, thus far I myself would recommend it to anyone in a similar situation to the one mentioned above.

WiFi extender
Easy set up, placed in an outbuilding to extend WiFi range and works perfectly with our netgear router

Nice bits of kit, but the roaming side I think needs improving
So it was easy to set up, the app was fine as well stop the bit that disappoints me is it is supposed to roam between your main router and this device. It is never seamless if I’m in the middle of a WhatsApp phone call or video call it takes a good six or seven seconds to sort it out. Using FaceTime is an absolute disaster if you wish to move around the home and I have given up on this roaming feature.

Good extenders
Decided to take the plunge, works a treat, only a couple weeks in but reliable and stable so far

This extender doesn't show up as an extension
Received this today, straight away I connected it to my modem. Then searched on my mobile for the extension, nothing showing. I thought for a minute it wasn't working, until I walked into the bedroom where previously I had very little signal, Surprise Surprise, I had full signal, Every other extender I've had has always shown up as my modem name / ext. When I walk to the bedroom from the living room a light on the right side of the extender comes on to confirm I've connected to it, it's completely seamless, And I like the fact your internet only shows your modem and no extension, hope this makes sense and is of help.

buyer alert - Net Gear state this won't connect to a 4g router
UPDATED REVIEW AT 6 MONTHS OLD - worth reading if you're considering buying this item! We replaced our mains powered 4G LTE router - which had expired - and we're loving our replacement (a D Link 953). We even, now, have 2 4G routers - a battery powered mobile Huawei E5577 (awesome bit of kit!) and a main powered one. The Net Gear extender worked really well with our previous main powered Huawei B525 4G router and it works well with our Huawei mobile 4G router. However, it will not work with our D Link 4G router. I can set it up to extend, but then lose all control - you can't acess the portal once the set up is complete. My computers can all connect to it, as can our really old smart phones, but out newest smart phones won't connect. So i got in touch with Net Gear support, and the message below is copied and pasted - the short answer is, you can't Net Gear extenders with 4G routers. So avoid this extender - either they are correct (they're not) or there is an issue - either way, you're on your own, so avoid this product at all costs and try something else. Apparently my extender is maflunctioning because of my router as it can't connect to 4G routers...................which other LTE routers can connect to............and which this particular extender connected to other in the past............... This is a direct quote from a conversation I'm currently having with NetGeat technical support: "NETGEAR Support - 2020-08-31 23:26:49 Hello xxxxx, Thank you for your response. The issue you are facing is because of the router you have. Extender is not compatible with any 4G LTE router and that is the only reason why it is malfunctioning. Please do let us know if we can assist you further with any other queries/concerns. Thanks, xxxxx Netgear Support"

Unreliable, signal drops
Signal has good range, BUT extender FAILS to connect to main router periodically, therefore connection drops at least a few times a week and becomes USELESS. The extender fails to connect to my router, rendering it useless. I use it to connect security cameras and smartplugs to control remotely when on holidays. But when I am away from home, the extender stops working and nobody can re-set the thing. Also, you’ll need a PhD in engineering to install this. Even Tech support takes a while to walk you through. The APP: useless. Fails to connect to the extender and doesn’t even recognise the device. Set it up several times, same result. The app DOES NOT let you CONTROL who can connect to it, simply shows you who is connected. The app is useless. Tech support offered a replacement IF I ship this unit back to them all the way to the USA, which costs the same as a new TPlink extender. Will never buy Netgear again.

Unpack & install
Nicely designed & engineered product as expected from Netgear. Installed very easily & setup in minutes, very pleased with the quality, would recommend. Purchased this item for my wife’s bedroom to combat a WiFi dead zone & also it’s switchable for extender or access point.
