World's Toughest Home Quality Shredder..
The Fellowes 4609001 Powershred 99MS Micro-Cut Shredder is an excellent choice for shredding old bills, tax documents, bank statements or credit cards. It's hungry and cuts through staples effortlessly. I received mine and immediately put it to use cleaning out and destroying old paperwork that I have had filed away from back in the early 80s. I was amazed at how quiet this shredder is compared to others that I've used, and it shreds to a micro-cut size which is perfect for old tax returns, etc. Once I started feeding documents through mine, I wasn't counting the pages (the manual states a maximum of 12 sheets per pass) as I placed them in the shredder but I was feeding them at a rapid pace. I managed to feed too many pages at one point and the shredder immediately sensed it and reversed the stack. Impressive! I very quickly filled the bin twice before the over temp light illuminated and the shredder stopped working. After 30 minutes it was ready to go again. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase. It's easy to setup, just push the four rollers into the holes on the bottom of the bin, insert a bag and turn it on. The bags are easy to install and they make this a very clean job overall. The only "con" I can report, is that even though the shredder itself is very nice, the holding bin is just a little flimsy and it won't slide into the box without a some effort. I don't mean to imply this would be a show stopper because for me, I'd still purchase this model shredder again if I'd known about this minor flaw beforehand. It's not that much effort and not that big a deal, but I want to be honest with other potential buyers. I would highly recommend this product to other users who want a good quality shredder for their home office or small business. There is a small bottle of oil that comes with the shredder. Be sure to add a little oil across the cutters each time you empty the bin.

THIS IS the BEST machine to do the job.
===== UPDATE @ Sept-2017 ---- STILL DOING EXCELLENT JOB - NO PROBLEMS anytime !!!!I ===== If you are looking for dependable and trouble-free way to shred your papers, documents etc - at home or small office .... look no more !!! .... THIS IS the BEST machine to do the job !!! We've bought it at the end of 2013 (were impressed by 17x FIVE stars reviews) - and we did NOT have a single problem with it - & it is now middle of 2015 .... It shreds, doesn't make too much noise, will signal when it's hot from the job (usually after 1.5 full bags), shreds several paper & even staples as advertised.... . Also - my advise: get plastics bags (100 pack) - they fit nicely into the bin & also: oil it, when starting new bag (just run sheet of paper & run oil bottle over it on one side, then repeat with second sheet for the other side) - they've got big bottle of oil here, too. (We got also 3 years warranty, looks like we will not even need it at all ....) ============== UPDATE: June-2018 ----- STILL DOING GREAT JOB - no problems at all ......

This shredder is a great machine!
I find that this shredder is perfect as a home office shredder, or a small office shredder for 1 to 3 employees. This shredder is perfect for shredding tax bills, insurance documents, bank statements, medical bills, and junk mail. I'm currently using this shredder at my work as a temporary shredder until we get a new commercial shredder. Pros: Quiet operation; comes with caster wheels to move easily around room; safesence technology; window on the wastebasket; sleep mode energy savings system automatically shuts down the shredder after 2 minutes of no shredding activity; shredder will run if the bin is closed, if bin is open the shredder will not run; Bin full will illuminate when the shredder waste bin is full and needs to be emptied; when a paper jam occurs, reduce paper quantity to an acceptable amount and re-feed into paper entry; overheat indicator is illuminated when the shredder has exceeded it's maximum operating temperature and needs to cool down, this indicator will remain illuminated and the shredder will not operate for the duration of the recovery time. Cons: I wish this shredder featured continuous duty shredding, meaning continuous run time, continuous duty motor to offer non-stop shredding for maximum productivity. I would buy this shredder again, if needed.

Great Home Shredder with P5 Security Capability
This is my second purchase of this Fellowes shredder model--the first purchase was back in November 2015. This shredder has taken a beating and it is still running, although now when it stops shredding the motor makes a strange sound. But this has been a beast. Full disclosure, I have, over the years, shredded many DVDs or CDs--I mistakenly thought I remembered reading that the machine could handle this type media--not so. And while I kept it lubricated, I have not lubricated it after every basketful. Yet, this thing continues shredding paper as finely as it did on the first day of use. Compared to shredders with newer technology, it is not as quiet as some nor does it have an auto feed feature, but I really wanted a shredder that offers P-5 level security and this one does. Also, when I bought this in 2015, the cost was $279.99; the current cost is $529.99, just under twice as much. So, understanding that my shredder is likely going to give out based on how I've used it, I went ahead and bit the bullet now and purchased rather than having the price go up further. I read a lot of reviews by customers dissatisfied with how easily the wheels broke. I've not had that experience because it largely remains in one place. So, my rating of this machine is a definite "5 stars".

Review of Fellowes 99M
So far the product does an amazing job of shredding into micro pieces. Once unpacked you will find the manual and all the rest of the items contain in the waste basket. Comes with manual, registration card, oil, waste plastic bags, a thank you card, wheels and a quality guarantee card. To pull the machine out was very simple, Fellowes added a handle slot at the rear so you can pull from there as well as from the waste basket handle to lift this from the box. The wheels are sturdy and were easy to install: just make sure you lay the shredder on its back and push the wheels in until they snap in to place. The sensor works as advertised: stops shredding process when fingers touch chrome sensor area. Once removed shredding commences again. The color looks very sleek and everything is very easy to read including the picture icons. A nice touch was a sticker located at the top which gives you the Fellowes telephone number for questions or concerns; beats having to dig up the manual. The pull out waste basket has a large opening so pulling it out will be very easy. The waste basket has a small vertical window so you can see how full you are, but remember that this machine also has a sensor that will tell when it is full. This item will shred credit cards as well, but make sure to pay attention to the slotted area; Fellowes has marked an area where to insert the credit card. Maybe this is the ideal place or has something to do with the wear of the cutters, not sure. It is not explained other than to put the credit cards in only the specially marked area of the slot. The power button on top lights up blue when depressed and flanking that are the forward or reverse buttons. Some things to be aware of, this is pretty big so make sure to read up on the dimensions and double check your space you plan to put this in to. If under a desk, make sure to leave enough space to put paper in it. There is a power switch so this is not a "plug and go". Turn the power switch on (which is located on the back). On both sides there are some holes which look like you can buy accessories to attach to this, but since the sides are a bit flimsy I would be careful as to how heavy those items may be as if they are heavy; they can push the plastic side inwards. On the top and on the angled sides are ventilation slots so just make sure those are clear and free of any dust that may accumulate in the future since these are for the cooling of the motor. The only thing I can say negative about this item is what I read on some reviews here; the name plate. The name plate has come off and it appears that the stand offs of that plate are just too thin causing them to break off when in transit or when placed into the Fellowes box. I can see that it is very easy to break off those stand offs. But with some glue or caulking (if you wish) you can just put it back on. Overall the Fellowes 99M is doing what it claims to do; make minced paper and it does very effectively. I have another one on order and will see if the name plate on that is also broken off. I do plan to do a 6-8 month followup review in the future so stayed tuned. Update - My followup review will be pretty short as I have owned this shredder for almost 7 months now and it has work pretty flawlessly. I have tested out (on many occasions) the safety feature and it works very well. Nothing more to add from my previous review other than something to notice. This is not major no a negative, but since the shredding device is offset the paper will build up on one side of the basket and trip the "full" sensor. Pull out the basket and shake it and the pieces will level off and you can shredder more. All in all this shredder has done a great job with very minor items to point out. It shreds papers, has safety, shreds credit cards, pretty quiet and the basket is a good size for my uses.

Good shredder
Shredder appears to be well made, and have had no problems shredding several pieces of mail, including those doggone credit card applications, with little effort. I wouldn't put anything thicker than that as it does slow down a little bit. Shreds down to confetti size. I spread about 10 pieces of mail a day. The bin for holding the shredded material is not even half full yet after a few months.this It holds quite a lot. Looking forward to years of use. Forward and back buttons work well. The slot where you insert the paper to shred has a sensor that stops the blades when your hand gets too close, which is nice if little ones get curious.

Died after 2.5 years
Shredder worked great for about 2.5 years. Then i got a jam of paper that wouldnt unjam. Reversed it a couple dozen times, made a noise, and several of the plastic spacers broke, with some ending up in the bin, and others ending up at the top of the cutters, blocking any further use of shredding full sheets. None of this should have happened, but its now dead. Should have lasted longer for the money. [edit] talked to customer service about warranty or repairs etc. They offered me 20% off a new item, but that is still about $75 more than the normal Amazon price, so no thanks. As to warranty, only the metal cutters have the longer warranty, the plastic pieces in between the metal cutters, which break first, do not. So dont count on that extended cutter warranty.

This thing is a beast
I pulled this shredder out of the box and was shredding in just a few minutes after installing its wheels. My shredding productivity went up so much that I started looking for other papers to shred. I love the large deep bin and the see-through window. I was skeptical about all the reviews of it being quiet, but it really is quiet especially compared to my old Fellowes 60cc. The micro cut is almost half the size of my old 60cc shed size. This was especially important as the new security specs for cross cut can clearly be read (1.5" length). I went to my local office supply store and looked at the sample shred and I could clearly read two words per shred. I triggered the thermal protection only once. The unit turned on the red thermal indicator and stopped mid shred. I just left it alone. After the cooling off period, the unit immediately completed shredding that was in the slot. The hand sensor works so well that I had to get used to not letting my hand get too close when loading the slot. With my old 60cc, I had to nurse the paper into the slot so it wouldn't bunch up on one side. The 99Ms is a lot easier to load and does not skew to one side. As others have indicated, the 99Ms does not support shredding disks but that's not something I am interested in since I break the disks in half myself. It's more cathartic too.

Fast, quiet and aligns with document destruction guidelines.
The shredder was received in good condition within a reasonable time frame. Assembly was a no-brainer. It was up and running within minutes. It easily fits our needs for capacity and speed and offers reduced noise levels compared to the previous machine. Most importantly, the particle size it produces fits our requirements for secure document destruction at a reasonable price. (sale price compared to similar spec machines) We have been using this shredder for less than a month before writing this review.
