A good scope for the price.
For the price, it is a great dissecting scope. If you are used to the $1,400 scopes then you will be disappointed with the smaller field of view. However, with the 10X eyepieces in place, insect and plant morphology analysis are very rewarding.

Very nice microscope
I bought this at the recommendation of a watch repairer for my burgeoning watch restoration hobby. It is extremely well made, and has a clear and powerful view. I ended up returning it in favor of a digital microscope that is easier to see and can record pictures and video - however, this microscope technically did everything I needed. It's construction is heavy and solid. It's not accidentally sliding off of your desk or being knocked over. The lighting is excellent, and is convenient to switch between the two light sources. The instructions indicate that there may be halogen alternatives to the bulbs used, and for my purposes I would have looked at purchasing those to provide a little colder light temperature. The magnification is excellent. I didn't even unpack the high-powered eyepieces and the magnification was still more than enough for my needs. Overall, this is a well-made, well-packaged optical microscope that does what it does very well.

Fantastic for the kids!
At my sisters urging (Yes, I'm taking about YOU Dr. Ludwig, PhD.) we purchased this for our kids who are currently in K, 3rd, and 4th grade. It is July now and all the Christmas toys are long forgotten. But nearly every week the kids come running in from the back-yard with a leaf or rock or bug or something to look at under the microscope. We tend to use the lower powers as the eyepiece for the higer powers has a very narrow field of view. But the lower powers still open up a whole world of things that are unseen with the naked eye. While we can't pick out any strucures in a cell, (or even see most cells) we've been able to see the outlines of some plant cells. Having the binocular scope seems to be easier for the kids to see with and it does allow to see things in 3-dimentions under the scope. And despite living in the kids bedroom for 6-months everyting still works and works well. So it seems to be built solidly. This insturment has sparked scientific curiosity and generated a whole lot of fun for the whole family. And it has held the kids interest far longer than toys we spent more on. For the money I can't thing of something I'd recommend more. I can't comment on its use in a professional setting. But it has been fantastic for the "little scientists" in our house.

Owned for two years. GREAT microscope!
I am a student of microbiology and genetics. I have owned this for about 2 years now. It is a VERY nice microscope. Resolution is great, it is versatile, and nothing has broken on it. The bulbs it came with are still working. It is slightly smaller than laboratory grade stereo microscopes, but that is good because lab size ones are quite big lol Too big for my desk. But this one is just a great size. And it allows you to adjust the height to fit bigger objects on the stage. I can't think of anything bad to say about it and I'm just really happy with it. :) Thanks AmScope! P.S. When using the 20X occulars, you might have to get your eyes closer to the lenses to see anything. I find that moving the eyepieces closer together helps me with this.

Great great tool. I'm buying more.
This is a great instrument. I regret that I went with this cheaper model, but I was unsure of the AmScope quality. I am buying two more from them! This scope is a great tool. I'm adding a camera to it, and it's too bad there's not an affordable trinocular version of this instrument. I'm buying an AmScope high power this week to go with this great tool. Optics are great. Controls are good. The big downfall of the unit is the halogen lighting. While bright and extremely effective, it's also hot, so if you're watching live critters, they may cook or dry out. It's a trade off I knew about, but just be aware of that. Other folks have complained that you can't turn the light down, but I really don't know why you would want less light.

Great starter scope, but go for an Amscope with a lower magnification range
Great 3 dimensional detail. Len's display sharp images, no noticeable chromatic aberration. Feels quality. Though it sits in the corner taunting me on my current disinterest, I was highly satisfied, if not somewhat biased when I received it. Though it was not like the zoom microscope I envy in my biology lab. I have wanted one of these for years - my previous "microscope" was one of those chinese usb endoscopes (which I really enjoyed). My only complaints are the following. The bulb housing gets extremely hot, making you lose your subject when you inevitably graze the hot surface. The magnification does not offer much freedom in range which ends up with most specimens being too close, though that is my own fault for naively thinking that bigger is better. The very narrow depth of field is pretty significant even at lower mags. With the absence of lens eye cup, you find your noise being tickled constantly. It also seems the lens might be out of slight collimation, with light handling and no drops. But for the amateur biology or student on a budget, this should be your first choice.

LOVE THIS!
My daughter now has the baddest stereo microscope of any kindergardener we know! She no longer has to hang her head shame, or worry when she walks in to her homeschool classroom, by herself, that the imaginary classmates will make fun of and mock her. Pretty sure this is the equivalent of a sports car at her age, so he holds her head high, and is sure to wash and wax it daily.... ------ .... SO, now that that's over. This thing is awesome. My daughter (5) loves it (and even her 1 1/2yo brother likes looking through it). She is constantly collecting all manner of specimens to "investigate": bugs, plants, dirt, etc. It's been instrumental in opening up a new world to her and has really fired up her inquisitive mind and instilled a new love for exploration. There are several focal choices, but the 20x-40x-80x seems to be about perfect for us. The scope optics are fine, and it's built like a tank, so I am certain it will survive my two children, and possibly even though a third one. I would definitely recommend this scope to others.

Very good quality at a very attractive price
I purchased this unit exclusively for watchmaking and repair. After using jeweler's loupes for years I figured I would give this a try. The depth of field and clarity at x20 and x40 are absolutely amazing. Jewel inspection and lubrication application are an order of magnitude more efficient than with a loupe. My only niggle would be the lighting. Although generally very good, LED top and bottom illumination with a brightness control would be a welcome upgrade. If the company ever releases an LED retrofit, please let me know. If you are in the watchmaking business or a watch repair hobbyist, you will not be disappointed with this unit.
