great book if you like fellini!
This is a fantastic book if you are a Fellini fan. Full of fascinating and moving anecdotes. He talks about the genesis of each of his films, his upbringing, his love of Roma, his relationship with Guilietta, how he got into fillmmaking, his views of life, art, other filmmakers, film critics, journalists, Marcello, other actors and celebs he knew, pretty much everything you'd want to know Fellini's thoughts on.

Makes me laugh out loud
I love this book. It is so...so....well....Fellini...and Italian. As I read it I can visualize moments from his film that were taken from his life especially La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2, Roma, and Satyricon (and Amacord but that goes without saying). I never knew how obsessed he was with sex. No wonder he made Casanova. He is like the Catholic form of Woody Allen. If you are looking for an academic review of his films you will not find it here. This is where you find the heart and soul that lies behind his films...or the spirits that haunt Juliet. Excellent read. Highly recommended for anyone who loves Fellini or Italy.

I'm sure there's better...
There's a big difference between writing a biography and transcribing conversation by the subject into book form. This book is the latter. While it is certainly entertaining from an anecdotal standpoint, there simply isn't enough meat here to grab one who is wishing to dive into the creative process that made Fellini's films what they are. This book is by no means scholarly or academic. If you seek deep insight into his films, look elsewhere. If you're entertained by casual chat, this is your book.
