After the Storm (KGI series Book 8)

It's official. I have a new favorite series. Maya Banks is a long time favorite of mine and her KGI Series adds to that. Currently there are 8 KGI books and a novella, but the story is still growing. The ninth book, When Day Breaks, is due to release on the 24th and I'm excited, to say the least. I have already read each of the others twice, and could probably read them again before the next one comes out. KGI: Kelly Group International is a private protection/rescue agency owned by the 6 Kelly brothers Sam, Garrett, Ethan, Donovan, and twins Nathan and Joe. So far 5 of the brothers have their own book, the rest of the books are other team leaders and part of the extended Kelly family. Each book is packed with action. There is all the great stuff I love like, kidnapping, gunfights, helicopter crashes, and so on, with the addition of a great romance. Each book tells it's own story and could be read alone, but they are so hard to put down you move onto the next one when you finish. I love this family and their stories so so much. I am excited that When Day Breaks is almost out, but I only have four days and now I want to read these again before it's released! The KGI Series: 1. The Darkest Hour (Ethan) 2. It's the eighth book in Maya Banks' KGI Series.. A series about a family that is committed to fighting for what's right, sometimes at their own cost. After the Storm is Donovan's Book.. one of the original founders of KGI (The Kelly Group, Intl),.. Of the six Kelly Brothers, Donovan is the "smart" one.. the geek of the team. Don't even think about touching his computer.. He is the one most likely to demand a mission if women and children are involved and yet, he is one of the last of the bunch to find his "one". To write a book about Donovan or Van as he is called, had to be hard. He is driven, compassionate, competitive, committed and completely loyal. It has been stated over and over again in most of the books that while he is most definitely built, he is leaner, more sinewy and not as hulkish (my term) as the rest. A more discreet kind of power. He is more likely to use his brains first but has no problem going in kicking ass and taking names.. (honestly how could I not fall in love with this man? He is what I would create if I could create the man of my dreams). So what happens when this wonderful man, defender of women and children meets his match? Well of course he is knocked for a loop and fortunately he doesn't get an easy pass. Nope even Van has to work for his woman! Eve is a woman on the run. After liberating her younger brother and sister from their father, Eve has run as far and as fast as she can. Only trying to keep a teenager and a young child safe and fed while on the run is almost more than Eve can handle. When their money runs out and they end up in Tennessee not far from the Kellys, Eve is exhausted, Cammie is sick and fifteen year old Travis is doing his best to be the "man" of the family. Only living hand to mouth in a barely livable trailer is almost unbearable. So when Van Kelly shows up at their door, Eve is lost. Should she trust him? Worse can she trust him? When one final tragedy strikes, Eve knows she has no choice. Only Eve is a woman living on fear.. even when she puts those most precious to her into the hands of the Kelly family, she has no clue just what these people can do.. and they have no clue exactly what evil her small family is hiding from. Van's book is not the fast paced action packed Kelly books we have learned to expect.. Nope this is Van.. so of course it's more of a psychological thriller.. We know they are up against evil but we live continuously on the edge of our seats. WE KNOW the Kellys are the good guys, we KNOW what they have done and what battles they have won.. but Eve doesn't. She knows what evil lurks in the dark. She knows what a powerful man can do and she struggles with finding a way to trust.. and when that trust is shattered? Well we have a woman on the edge. Great book!! I have loved all of this series and am totally thrilled that Van's book lives up to my expectations. Ms Banks writes a story for Van.. not some cookie cutter action packed extravaganza. It's easy for an author to make each character bigger and better.. MORE.. but with the Kellys, she has created a balance, each character has something to offer but doesn't have to be showboating to become a fast favorite. Instead, Ms Banks manages to make Van's strengths sexy.. making this book about Van rather than inserting him into her formula.. Wonderful Job!! Shaun

Donovan has always had a soft spot for women and children more so than the rest of his brooding brothers, but it doesn’t make him any softer than the rest. When he finds a woman and two kids in trouble, there’s no doubt what he has to do. Decisamente inferiore a tutto il resto della serie. Il protagonista e' Donovan, che si era sempre dimostrato il piu' sensibile dei fratelli. Qui continua a ripetere, anche piu' volte per pagina, che lei gli appartiene, che sara' sua, etc. etc. Un neanderthal, insomma. L'antagonista, il padrino della protagonista, e' un maniaco stereotipato, la presenza degli altri del clan Kelly e' poco piu' che una nota di colore, piu' volte si dice ch il KGI ha come obiettivo di aiutare le persone in difficolta'... D'accordo che a questo punto forse l'autrice comincia a sentire il peso della serie, ma il risultato e' un libro melenso, casa-chiesa-armi libere. Unica, minima, parte positiva: finalmente si sblocca la tensione fra Sean e Dusty, che montava come sottotrama da un po' di libri.

Maya banks is another one of my best authors that I like to read . I have read every one of these books so far am now waiting for a new one each one of theses books the story has got better ,you can feel as thought you are there in the story . so again I say yes to any one who wants a good book to read

Ich hatte das Buch vorbestellt und daher die Rezensionen dazu vorher nicht lesen können und ich bin ehrlich gesagt ganz froh darüber. Zu romantisch und unspannend fand ich das Buch wirklich nicht. Bei der Story geht es dieses Mal um Donovan Kelly, der in Eve seine große Liebe findet. Im Prinzip befinden sich ja in jedem der KGI Bücher Liebesszenen und ich fand es auch nicht unpassend, das Van und Eve relativ schnell wussten, was sie füreinander empfinden. Zudem sollte man bedenken, dass Donovan sich von seinen Brüdern unterscheidet. Wenn man so will, wurde er in den vorherigen Büchern auch gerne als eher Strebermäßig und Soft im Umgang mit Frauen und Kindern beschrieben. Hätte er sich abweisend, abwartend oder distanziert Eve gegenüber verhalten, wäre mir das daher unrealistisch erschienen. Einen Stern ziehe ich lediglich deshalb ab, weil mir an manchen Stellen zu viel Wiederholungen von bestimmten Sätzen kamen und man die Geschichte dadurch noch etwas hätte kürzen können. Alles in allem fand ich es aber ein durchaus gut geschriebenes Buch, welches auch eine spannende Handlung zu bieten hatte und ich bin froh, dass ich es gelesen habe.
