I use this to balance and rehab after a torn meniscus (no surgery). It really helps. I use it with shoes on for convenience, but it would be better to use it with socks or barefoot. It's held up fine wearing shoes. I was going to buy the XL because I wear size 11 shoe but decide on the smaller pad. The smaller pad is more than sufficient. I stand on one leg at a time. It's a bit expensive for what it is. It's hard to find anything comparable though.
