Item did not seem new
The cord to the plug was greasy as was the plastic bag it was sent in. Also, the box did not seem new---had been taped shut and was not in great shape.

Perfect After YEARS of Use!
I bought this to replace the same model I've had for YEARS after a lightning strike destroyed many of my electronics. I was shocked at all the bad reviews it got and wondered if the company's quality-control had declined. But I got it anyway based on my own good experiences and have not been disappointed. It is easy to set up. The volume of the number announcement allows me to hear the number from almost anywhere in my large, one-story house. I like that I can turn off the audible beep for the message indicator (the light is enough for me; I find the beeping annoying if I want to delay writing down messages for a few minutes while I put groceries away or take the dog out). There really isn't one aspect about this machine that I'd change.

Does a good job as an announce-only unit. All of these units are used, and fairly old.
This unit is used only for letting clients know that my old business number has been changed. It is set to not take incoming messages, and that is the feature I bought it for. 95% of my clients know my new number, and I wanted to make sure that there was no way for anyone to leave a message when calling my old number. The outgoing message I recorded is reasonably clear and gets the job done, that I need it to do. Recommended as an announce-only unit. I have no idea how the other features work as I have no reason to use them. It should be noted that my old number line is used for other purposes. That is why it has not been disconnected.

Not recommended
I had to return this item. It was non functional when received. These phones are over 10 years old. I had one just like it, bought over 10 years ago, and loved it.

i had to return it as it was not compatible with my system--my older one was same model but i moved---no problems with it but just did not jive

Check the stars before buying.
Disliked pen marks and nicotine discoloration but it is 15 years old device.
