I LIKE THIS THING.
I've had my Luma for a little over a year now. I use it in my small bedroom with the door closed during winter nights, because with a space heater also running in the room, the air gets very dry. Performance: Without a doubt this humidifier works. According to the hygrometer I bought for the bedroom, it can raise the humidity from 20-40 degrees, depending on how high a setting I use. Design: Very attractive. You would never guess that it is a humidifier. The pieces fit together very well, though not quite seamlessly. You can see where the pieces connect, but even with my Type A personality, I am not really bothered by it. Capacity: The tank is easy to fill and carry around (minimal dripping), and can last close to 2 days without refilling (if run on the lowest setting). I run the unit at medium-to-high while sleeping and the lowest level the rest of the time, and at this rate of usage, the tank lasts about 24 hours. I've never had any problems with leaking. Noise Level: The mechanics are whisper-quiet. It does, however, produce a dripping sound. The higher the setting, the more constant the drip. Some may find this annoying; others may find it to be pleasant white noise. Reported Problems: As some people reported, the unit will sometimes shut off when there is still water left in the tank, but in my experience this is just a sign that the water sensor in the base needs cleaning. Cleaning the base is easy with a mild vinegar solution and the little brush provided. I clean it about every 2 weeks. White Dust: The unit creates a small amount of white "dust", but this is due to the water quality, not the humidifier. I live in an area with extremely hard water. I filter the water before adding it to the tank but honestly can't tell if this makes any difference. Extras: The remote is extremely convenient and adorably shaped like the main unit. I also find the musical chimes that indicate the humidity setting to be adorable; think old-school Nintendo sounds. The noise the unit makes when it runs out of water is admittedly loud and obnoxious, and could very well wake you if it goes off during the night. But if you take care to fill up the tank before bedtime, this should never happen! Light: There is a small blue LED light on the front, which might be a concern to some if they mean to use it in a darkened room, but it isn't very bright, and if the unit is kept on the floor, as I do, it's barely noticeable. If you are bothered by it, you will not be able to turn it to face the wall if you are planning on using the remote, because the remote sensor is also on the front. To summarize, I LIKE THIS THING. I did an exhaustive amount of research before I chose it, recognizing that I was probably choosing form over function to some extent, but I have been very pleasantly surprised by this unit's performance. Would buy again! The reason I surfed back to this page was because I was thinking of getting a second one for my office. I don't write many reviews, but seeing that the product's overall rating was so mediocre, I felt like I needed to put in my 2 cents.

Who knew a humidifier could be so beautiful and functional?
A humidifier that doesn't look like a big boring box or childlike animal?! A humidifier you can hardly hear?! A humidifier that has enough capacity to last through the night in an average sized bedroom but has a small footprint?! Over the years I have bought countless humidifiers. From the expensive German engineered "airwasher" that was a pain to wash, to the medical grade ones that look like they belong in a hospital, to the little kiddie ones that belong in a nursery and can only humidify for a few short hours. The Luma is my favorite by far. Guests are always impressed with the "beautiful steaming vase" so I never have to hide it when there is company over. There are different moisture levels to choose from, and it is easier than most other humidifiers to refill. I only have to refill it once a day even though I leave it on all day (but this will depend on the level of moisture you choose). I like the height of the opening since my little toddler is not as tempted to play with something above her head, and I just feel it's more effective than other humidifiers that emit humidity so low to the ground. But does it humidify the air? ABSOLUTELY! With it on, my skin and nasal passages do not feel dry, my kids are not waking up with uncomfortably hard dried boogers in their noses, LOL. Jan 2018: I have had this for 3+ years now, so an update is in order. 1. The fan has gotten noticeably louder. Still not bad though, and the trickling water sound adds to the background white noise. 2. I bought a second, and one remote will inevitably signal both humidifiers even though they are located in different rooms with a few walls in between. Not a deal breaker since I can just use the touch sensitive control on the vase itself. Took me a while to figure out that you have to keep your finger steady on the sensor for the level to toggle up or down. Don't tap because that just turns the power on and off. This is slightly annoying in that I can't use the remote if both humidifiers are on. 3. The alarm is Really Loud. Which wasn't a problem until the valve got stickier with time (it's 3 years old) and now it will alarm and stop as if it ran out of water even if the tank is still 50% full. So unless I fill the tank to the brim before sleep and have it at the 50% humidity level, I'm bound to be woken by the alarm. There is another reviewer that posted a fix that I'm going to have to find to see if I can be fixed. There is no way to reduce the volume of the alarm; the price for simplicity and sleekness in design I suppose. I just lowered my rating to 4 stars because of the issues above. Overall I still love these humidifiers. Still way better than most out there.

I like this humidifier, it uses a disk to produce the mist, I love that I can set it to produce lots of mist or keep it on low. I have it by my boston ferns that I bring in from outdoors for the winter and am hoping this will keep the leaves from drying up and dropping up and leaving a mess. I just received it today, setup was very easy. I love the fact that I don't have to stand there holding it while it fills up (I use my tap filter to fill it because I have minimal hard water). I will check back if I have any further updates but for now, this humidifier is the best I have owned thus far! Update: This humidifier made it through the winter working well. If you keep it clean, it works well. Going into my 4th year and it is still working very well.... WISH they would bring it back into stock, well worth the investment! Bring back the Luma Comfort HC12W Ultrasonic Cool Mist HUMIDIFIER! Please, my friends keep asking about it.

I have had two of these units and experienced a problem with each one. I must say that I really like the look and the operation of it but after a couple of months the sensor starts to act up and the unit stops producing the mist even though there is still plenty of water remaining. Luma Comfort people are aware of the problem and said they were working on it. I Spoke to them recently and they said that it had been rectified but I am somewhat reluctant to order another one. I shall wait and ponder this decision for a while.
