Bag Boy Backbone Golf Travel Cover Protection System

I picked this up to protect my Callaway AI Smoke driver, woods, and irons during travel (the pic has my old clubs FYI), and it’s done the job perfectly. The telescoping shaft is lightweight but sturdy, and the oversized top cap adds a layer of protection to the club heads inside my travel bag. The adjustable length is a big plus — it extends up to 54" for full coverage, but collapses down to just over 23" for easy storage when you’re not on the move. The push-button mechanism makes adjustments quick and simple, and the rubberized bottom cap keeps it stable inside the bag. It’s not heavy, doesn’t take up unnecessary space, and gives real peace of mind when handing your clubs over to baggage handlers. After multiple trips, everything has arrived without a scratch or dent. Final Take: Lightweight, easy to use, and highly effective — if you travel with your clubs, this is a must-have piece of gear.

Although I read some negative reviews regarding the BackBone, including complaints of poor quality, I ordered the product anyway. I received my BackBone in new condition and it appeared to be a solidly constructed product of quality design and workmanship. That said, I was still concerned with reviews that indicated the BackBone had not survived transport when properly installed with golf clubs in a golf bag. When I packed my clubs in my golf bag, I covered my irons and fairway metals with head covers and then used bubble wrap to provide additional protection for the clubs and to fill the voids between the clubs and the BackBone. I then installed the golf bag cover and placed the golf bag in a Bag Boy travel bag. In this configuration the BackBone was immovable and in a fixed position protecting my bag and clubs from an impact to the top of the bag...just as it is designed. After two airline flights my clubs and BackBone have arrived intact and undamaged with the golf bag and clubs just as I had packed them.

I just don’t hit the road without my Bag Boy BackBone Travel Cover Support System. It’s been a steadfast travel companion for securing my clubs. This thing is very durable; it’s aluminum-built and feels bulletproof under pressure. Yet, it’s surprisingly lightweight, so it doesn’t contribute much to the bag’s overall weight. The adjustable height feature is cool too both to fit in the golf travel bag and for storage. If you travel with your golf clubs, this is an absolute must-have. It keeps your clubs upright, cushioned, and secured inside your travel cover. I’ve used it on multiple trips now and it still looks as new.

Durable and well made. Easy to operate but the top portion should be larger to provide more protection. Not sure why they made it so small.

Provides important extra security and peace-of-mind when transporting golf clubs in a soft shell traveling case. I won’t ship or check my clubs on an airplane without it in my bag.

Maybe this product went through a design change, but it is very simple. You push the button at the top and adjust to the length you need. There is no twisting the top or any need for additional instructions. It is very simple. After getting the backbone in my bag and into place, I pounded on it multiple time and also applied sustained pressure and the backbone did not bend or slide down. I suspect people that have had trouble have simply received a defective product. You can clearly hear when it clicks into place as you are adjusting it. If I have any issues with it while flying this weekend, I will update my review.
