READ THIS BEFORE BUYING ANYTHING ELSE!
Ok.. after reviewing a lot of other Pet/Cat doors, i saw some of the reviews saying that they are amazing and blah blah blah, But I chose this one over a lot other similar products from other vendors who offered the one with PLASTIC HARD DOOR... the main reason was because in 2 different reviews of 2 different products but with similar characteristics, there were 2 cats with their paws stuck in the door and almost broke them.... I got feared just imagining that could be happening to any of my 2 cats where we are not at home... I feel really happy that I spend 22 dollars (instead of the 6 dollars minimum price of other door from a really good brand) for this door. Why?, well... I installed the door yesterday and obviously, the cats were afraid of that new thing in the door... After looking at them and trying to teach them how to use the door, I see that their insecurity at the beginning is the main reason that could cause a tragedy with a hard plastic door.. they test the door with their paws.. and sometimes they don't walk fast through it and left the tail between the vinyl door and the frame.... This Pet Door is great.. the instructions on how to install it is at the side of the box, My door is 1.5" width and it fits perfectly... The vinyl flap is amazingly flexible and it feels resistant... It also has a little metal light bar at the end so it will keep close with the magnet... i don't see any open gap between the vinyl and the plastic frame of more than a 0.5 millimeter so we can keep the AC ON without having cold air escaping from the room. The installation is easy specially if you has the correct saw to cut the door.... the outside frame fits perfectly for every screw hole... unless you has the outside frame upside down (it happened to me LoL) Buy it.... your pet deserve to move around the house in a secure way....

Ideal Pet Door with Telescoping Frame 7 by 11.25 inch Medium
The Ideal Pet Door with Telescoping Frame Medium Size 7 by 11.25 is a great product for small dogs & large cats. We have a 17 pound cat as well as a smaller one and this works very well for both of them. They are constantly going in and out and we wanted them to be able to get into shelter when the weather was bad or when we were not at home. We installed this in a wall in our garage and built a frame for it rather than spending almost as much for the kit as we paid for the door. It worked out very well. It is pretty easy to install if you are handy because you do have to do some cutting whether it is in the wall or a door. The magnetic flap works great and closes well. Having the clear flap is perfect because my cats usually have to look out for a few minutes to make sure it is safe and I don't think they would use one that they could not see out. Also after reading some of the nightmares about the rigid flaps where cats get stuck, we were really glad that we got this one which is more flexible but is sturdy. It did take a little coaxing mainly with the larger cat because he is more timid. We just kept making them go in and out that way rather than the house door and after a couple of weeks they were both using it fine. I can't comment on how this holds up since we have only had it installed for about a month but it seems like it should do well.

Great door, install with main door off hinges.
The instructions for installing were easy to follow. Mine was installed into a hollow back door 11 years ago. It's important that the doggie door be high enough from the bottom to maintain the integrity of the door. It's very easy to clean, open and close. My dog is a 55 lb boxer and has no problem going in/out of it. The only issue I have is leaving it open when I leave home. There is a gap between the sides of the flap and doggie door that allows the a/c to escape. It might be possible to add a piece of foam on the inside of the door, which will block that area & still allow the trap to slide in/out & block the a/c. It'd probably have to be glued on.

Should have bought this a long time ago.
We rescue sick and unwanted dogs and try to give them a good home with a loving family. Right now, we have three elderly, hospice dogs, a Chihuahua, a Cocker Spaniel and a Pit Bull, Labrador mix and live in the woods, well back off of a rural road. There is no problem letting the dogs roam our property at will as the first thing we teach them when they get here is to stay within the boundaries of our land. This door works well for all three sizes. I like the fact that it is clear and I can see through to the other side. At first they thought it was a window and just looked through the door. However, I believe that the door being clear actually helped to train the dogs as I could encourage them from the inside and use their food bowls which motivated them to learn to use the door and receive a snack as a reward. When I called them to go out, I used the man door without letting them pass and then kept calling them from the other side and they learned very quickly how to poke their door open and pass through. Now, no more getting up in the middle of the night for first one and then the other when they have to go. There may be thicker doors with better insulation or weather seals but I can't feel any drafts and this door works well for us as it opens onto a porch, out of the weather and the exterior door of the porch is sheltered under a roof overhang and can be left open all year round. Good price for a good product and easy to install.

If the puppy likes it, I like it!
First off, my dog absolutely loves this door! He is an inside dog and in the night he tends to move from room to room in the house. Maybe he just needs to check on us every so often. The bedrooms are air conditioned so the doors should remain closed but if he cannot get in he scratches on the door till we acknowledge him. So, to work around that we started leaving the bedroom doors slightly open which isn't too great an idea when trying to keep the cold air in or keep the bloodthirsty mosquitoes out. Enter the doggy door! This wasn't too difficult to install with the right tools - a drill, a saw and some patience. I used an electric hand saw (not a jigsaw). The instructions state to install the pet door about 4 inches from the bottom of the room door but that's just a suggestion, right? I decided to install the pet door 2 inches from the bottom instead and once I started cutting, that's when I had my uh-oh moment. The internal support braces for my bedroom door were about 3 inches high along the bottom and I started cutting through the brace itself hence affecting the stability of the door. Also, the vibrations from the saw started to separate the side panels from the interior support. Sigh. After repairing the bedroom door with nails and glue, it's time to start installing the pet door. It is a simple process to put the back and front together and use the screws to secure them, but it turns out the screw holes are not pre-threaded. Using a hand screwdriver to tighten these screws is next to impossible. I had to pre-thread the holes using the drill and a screwdriver bit and then install the door. Once installed, puppy immediately figured out he can just push his nose and pass through the door - no coaxing or treats involved - smart little cookie. The flap is relatively quiet but for a bedroom door it has bit of a loud clickity-clack to it because there is a magnetic base that gets pulled up about 1 or 2 mm to hold the flap closed and ensure a weather tight seal; not really necessary for a bedroom door. I solved that noise by using some strips of gift wrapping tape to keep that magnetic base from rising up to meet the flap. The only side effect is there is an oh-so-tiny space which does not seal the pet door but that space is so much smaller than the opening at the bottom of the bedroom door so it really is a moot point. The magnetic attraction is still there so the flap is still held closed. The flap is made of a thick durable clear plastic and sometimes puppy is quite content just looking through the door. 4 stars for the unthreaded screw holes but 5 stars for the effectiveness of keeping the cold air in, mosquitoes out, a peaceful night's sleep and one happy puppy.

Great value for a pet door
This Original pet door with telescoping frame is admittedly one of the best pet doors in the market. Once you make the purchase you will wonder where this pet door has been hiding all along. This is most especially if you have previously chronicled horror stories inspired by pet doors. The pet door is not only good-looking but also works as advertised. The pet door goes for $39.46. This is an incredible price considering the fact that the pet door works as advertised. You will derive the value for your money sooner than later. There are other pricey pet doors out there but there is no need of investing in the pricey pet doors yet this one works with the same prowess as the pricey ones. My pet door is extra-large. There are 3 sizes (medium, extra-large and super large) all dependent on the dog(s) size. But whichever size you opt to choose you can be assured that you will not go wrong with this pet door. I am however not sure if the listed extra-large price applies to all the other sizes. Admittedly, this is a great pet door especially if you have cats and dogs that get in and out as they please. This can be an inconvenience and dangerous to an extent because this pet door can also act as a doorway for other dangerous animals like snakes or insects like mosquitos. In light of this the ideal pet door should allow for the seamless movement of your pets but also inhibit uninvited species from gaining entry. It is made from a strong thermoplastic frame with a transparent poly vinyl flap with wait…edges that don’t wrap. There is a floating sill that allows for good closing though cold air still manages to get through. The product description had a similar narrative and it is the one that prompted me to make a purchase. I am glad that this door works exactly as advertised. I have no problem with the cold air entering provided that there are no other species gaining access. There are 4 installation processes that are easy to follow. You should be done with this process in no time. The processes are clear cut and you shouldn’t get irritated because you can’t seem to get the processes correct. I love this pet door and I would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable and quality pet door. Highly recommended!!!

Ideal Pets Extra-Large Original Pet Door - Should have bought it years ago!
I bought this for Quinn our 35lbs American Eskimo. He is principally a house dog, but sometimes we need to put him outside for a day or two and have a neighbor care for him. We cannot board him as he gets severely ill every time. He is older and has ALWAYS been unwilling to use a dog house of any type when outside. As he is aging we wanted him to have more protection from the elements. So we installed the door in the side of our tool shed and put his kennel in the shed hoping he would use it. We specifically bought a larger size pet door than another dog of comparable size might require because we know our dog. We didn't want him to not feel confined or restricted in anyway hoping he would learn to use it more easily. After a little training with a few treats (maybe 20 minutes following the manufacturer's instructions) although reluctant at first he mastered it. No more coming home to a wet, cold dog with a perfectly good (and I might add expensive) albeit unused dog house in the yard. Now he goes in the pet door and into his kennel in the shed. I wish I had bought it years ago I could have saved a lot of money on that dog house too. I am fairly handy and found the installation to be simple and straight forward. The solid door is the template - brilliant engineering! The instructions were easy to understand and follow. Although the instructions provided didn't say to do so, I did caulk the seam where the two halves meet to attempt to ensure it doesn't leak. A ounce of prevention... Quinn is a relatively calm dog and smaller than the door so, it will only get light use as he walks in somewhat "gingerly". A larger or more rambunctious dog might wear it out due to the plastic construction. In our case, this one will definitely out last the user. It was specifically selected considering the needs of the dog (size/construction). It was straight forward to install. The results are much better than I had hoped. I love it. Quinn loves it. What better recommendation could you get?

doggie door in wall setup
Good Doggie door! I actually placed it into a wall rather then a door. some tips for placing this in the wall: 1. you can buy a plastic piece that fits in between both the door and the other side...its an option but I did not do this 2. placement is key. not to high you dog has to jump into it, not to low as to bring in critters or water / snow 3. put 2x4 studs along the sides and top and bottom. cut along a stud if you can. Use a sawsall to make things simple and cut one side, mark from interior and cut the other. You could paint these studs for water control if required. 4. I tied the door directly to these 2x4 studs. Works great. used the same size of screw (just went and matched the screws given in the package at hardware store) and got extra long (2 inches) wood screws since that was what I was drilling into. Predrilled holes as always with wood. 5. seal up the dog door however you want. I placed mine just under a lip of the garage wall siding. and sealed it up with some glue all in all works great, looks great and my dogs are used to it. Trained them to use it with treats and a ball. They got the hang of it after 2nd attempt. They think its what I always want them to do now so when I pass by they go on the other side of the door and peak out waiting for praise. My Aussie loves to chew...got a hold of a side of the plastic flap and ripped a cm side off it, still works, and hasn't gotten worse so I am fine with it. The plastic is fairly clear...you can see a blurr of what is going on the other side...but not much. It is all plastic...so be careful screwing it all together to not crack it. The bottom magnet is a little free which makes the top metal strip snap into place. works great every time so far the last 2 months I have had it. Purpose of this doggie door for me was to make an entrance into their dog box, a 4X6 foot wood enclosed box with livestock rubber mat inside of a garage. Works great for heat, just put in a 150W reptile heat lamp (no light) and it keeps their den a cozy 50 degrees when it is in the teens outside. Box works great when I don't want them to roam the entire garage (storage). I can fit through the door when I tried. wouldn't suggest leaving this open for intruders at night unless dogs are trained correctly to handle the situation. I have a Collie and an Aussie and they fit through this with ease...may be able to go a size smaller with not issues.

40kg german shepherd fits happily though and light enough for my cats to hop through too. Not sure how long the magnet will last but not to worried as the flap is for an out house and not directly into the house. Value for money

Most "IDEAL" pet door ever !!
Excellent product quality, great price and super easy installation. I live in India and the shipping was remarkably quick all the way from US, and complete hasselfree clearance through customs. I ordered this for my bedroom door as my pup loves to sleep with me but needs to step out for his business. It hardly took any time for installation, just had to cut the right size in my door and screw the two frames together N poof!!! I've got a great doggy door . My pup loves it and didnt take more than 2 mins to figure out how to get in and out of it. The magnetic strip makes it a perfect hold of the vinyl flap. Nothing else gets in or out. For privacy the lockdown slider works like a charm. Over all a great addition for my pet as now he's more independent 👍🏽 Just hoping it will be good for him when he's a fully grown golden retriever (should be less that 90lbs as an adult). I definitely recommend to buy !!!
