Life-saving masking of road noise!
We recently moved and are contending with intermittent, pretty intense noise from roads within a mile of our house. Our bedroom has a sliding door with a broken seal and 50-year-old windows, which we believe are at least partly to blame. Until we can address those problems, if the degree of traffic and the wind are right, it can be hard to fall asleep. For years, we've used a color noise app on our phones at night, but that was failing us badly against this new issue. After some sleepless nights, we finally decided to give an actual white noise machine a try. Our Dohm has been a lifesaver! The spectrum of settings available for the volume and character of sound bring peace of mind that we can find the right experience for us even if our sleeping challenges evolve. I also appreciate how the Dohm is louder than our phones without sounding loud like phones do when you crank up the volume to fight unwelcome sounds--the machine fills the space so effectively without creating this pinpoint of intense noise that grates on you AND still doesn't envelop the room, which is what our phones were guilty of. Also, since it's a fan, it sounds "natural" compared to digital sounds, so it's like the AC is running, which is what I like for masking sound. Our app had also taken to quitting in the night, waking us up. With Dohm, we have reliable sound the whole night through. And, as a side note, I find the Dohm oddly cute on my nightstand. Before Dohm, I'd get into bed anxious if I heard traffic. Now, I turn on the machine and feel totally relaxed. It's truly been a life-changing purchase for me. Since using it nightly, I haven't struggled to fall or fall back asleep due to noise intrusion. My only complaint is the settings for the Dohm are sensitive; it's very easy to make the necessary adjustments. This is nice when you're setting up your Dohm for the first time, but it's a detriment when you're trying to turn it off in the morning or move it to clean your nightstand. I value having a consistent experience to rely on, so I want to "set it and forget it." I wish there was a way to "lock" your settings in place that would still allow for painless unlocking and tweaking.

Can’t sleep without it!
We’ve been using these Dohms for about 4 years now. Since the first dohm we have purchased one for our son’s room too. We gifted them to friends and family because talking them into these things is too much work and they never splurge for themselves. We have loved ours so much that we become salesmen for this machine. We gifted one to a friend who lives in an apartment building in a busy city. She didn’t realize how poor her sleep was until she used this and started getting restful sleep. She then turned her therapist on to it and her therapist now suggests this sound machine to her clients that may need help with sleep. We take ours with us anytime and anywhere we travel for the hotel rooms. It absorbs an incredible amount of noise. The house we lived in when we bought our first one was built like an echo chamber. And the noises outside permeated through the entire house. My husband works nights and needs sleep during the day. When this thing is on, you can’t hear anything that’s going on outside the bedroom. The sound fades into the background as you sleep, you can’t even hear it upon waking up, it causes a peaceful static in your head. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to write a review. My 4 year old Dohm has been through a lot and has served a lot of hours. I can start to hear the motor, like it’s slightly janky. My ears tune into every frequency , rattle, shake and buzz. This little machine helps absorb so much of those audible irritants. We 1,000,000% recommend this product , by Dohm.

My Bedroom's Analog Symphony Conductor. This Works Miracles!
My quest for uninterrupted sleep has been a long and often frustrating journey. External noise pollution – be it enthusiastic nocturnal wildlife, distant traffic harmonics, or the unpredictable percussive maintenance schedule of my neighbors – frequently disrupted my sleep architecture. Digital sound machines, while offering a plethora of simulated environments (tropical rainforests, bustling cafes, the inside of a whale), often introduced audible looping artifacts that were, frankly, unacceptable to my auditory cortex. I required a solution based on continuous, non-repeating broadband noise generation. My research led me to the Yogasleep Dohm, the purported "Original White Noise Machine." Upon physical inspection, the Dohm presents as a deceptively simple electromechanical device. Its core functionality is derived from a standard AC-powered motor driving a small impeller fan. This fan is strategically housed within a resonant acoustic enclosure constructed from what appears to be injection-molded ABS polymer. The genius lies in the adjustable physical geometry of the enclosure. A simple rotary manipulation of the external cap and collar allows for precise modulation of the airflow pathway, thereby altering the spectral characteristics and amplitude of the emitted sound pressure waves. This analog control mechanism provides a continuous spectrum of sound profiles, effectively bypassing the discrete steps and potential looping discontinuities inherent in digital audio playback systems. Deployment was straightforward: plug into a standard 120V AC receptacle, initiate motor function via the binary toggle switch (High/Low velocity modes), and calibrate the output signature by rotating the housing components. The resulting sound is a pure, unadulterated whoosh of moving air. It is, analytically speaking, a form of pink noise with spectral density inversely proportional to frequency, providing effective masking of transient environmental noise events across a broad frequency range without the high-frequency emphasis sometimes present in true white noise. Subjectively, the effect is profound. The constant, non-invasive ambient sound creates an acoustic shield, effectively rendering minor external disturbances perceptually irrelevant to my sleep state. It's like having a tiny, benevolent atmospheric anomaly in my bedroom, smoothing out the sonic landscape. My sleep onset latency has decreased, and sleep continuity has demonstrably improved. The device performs its noise-masking function with remarkable efficiency, a testament to the elegance of its simple, fan-based design. If you seek a robust, non-digital solution for environmental noise masking, appreciate the technical simplicity of a well-engineered electromechanical system, and desire a consistent, non-looping sound profile for enhanced sleep or focus, this machine is a superior performer. Its effectiveness in creating a tranquil acoustic environment is genuinely impressive, transforming my bedroom into a sanctuary of analog calm.

Ensures A Good Nights Sleep.
This is our 2nd Dohm noise machine. The first lasted for over 10 years. It still works, but sometimes there is a very slight rattle from it and we are so dependant on this machine that we did not want to take a chance of it stopping working without a back up. We have tried the white noise apps on our phone, but they just don't compare to the real thing. There is no assemble, you simply plug it in and you are ready to go. It has two sound levels and the volume for each sound level is easily adjustable by simply twisting the top section of the sound machine to your comfort level. The machine is solidly built and light weight so you can easily take it with you on vacations or business trips. Highly recommended for a good nights sleep.

Completely Life Changing (GET THIS YESTERDAY!)
I did not expect this white noise machine to make such an improvement to my life and I wish I had gotten it sooner. Sleep Troubles Due to Kittens Background: I had a white noise machine 4 years ago to help with a loud bird in the tree outside and it didn't help in the past and I threw it out. I didn't think it would help so much this time. In August I got two kittens, and unfortunately one of them snores. The other wakes me up at dawn. I spent so much time and energy into getting black out curtains (double layered!), ear plugs, ear muffs, sleeping earlier, wearing myself out exercising, melatonin, magnesium, calming supplements etc. I had tried out 7 different types of ear plugs and went to urgent care for an ear infection as well, so ear plugs are not always the answer! Exasperated at 4am I decided to look into pet snoring and pet snore. Earplugs I have already tried. Some people suggested a raised pet bed to lift their head. Others this specific brand of white noise machine. I ordered both. The little snorer was afraid of the pet beds and insisted on sleeping with me. If I lock her out, she will meow at the door all night. So the pet beds didn't help. Then the white noise machine came in and for the first time in a month I slept through the night! I didn't think it would help that much! Other than fear of it not working, I also resisted a white noise machine because I was afraid of hearing loss. After the first night of sleeping well I knew I wanted to use this every night. I bought a decibel reader and assuaged my fears that it would cause hearing damage because it wouldn't. It is well within the safety zone of 40 to 50 decibels near my pillow where I sleep. I keep the machine 3 feet away at the foot of my bed. Even on the loudest setting, it is still within safety levels near my head. It is already effective on the lowest setting, which I use every night. It drowns out the kitten snores, which were high pitched and woke me up every time before this. And if I kept the kittens out of my bedroom, the machine drowns out their meowing too, and i sleep through it or fall back asleep quickly! I wanted to share my results in case anyone else was afraid of hearing loss too. In the past week, I have been energized and focused. I socialized more. I attended all my classes with enthusiasm and optimism. I crushed my personal bests at the gym. I haven't craved junk food anymore due to sleeping enough and cut my caffeine significantly. I feel like I have gained 3 or 4 more hours in the day due to my excess energy. I wish I had gotten this sooner!

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.! My husband & I can sleep in the same room again!
Wow! My husband & I (of 28 years) had to sleep in separate rooms because he snored so loudly I couldn't get through the night uninterrupted (even with earplugs)...he would be irritated if I asked him to turn on his side. NOTHING worked to stop the snoring. No wraps, no tapes, no mouthpieces, nothing! We were super bummed to say the least. I thought back to when it was all fine & realized that there was always a loud fan/AC in the room. Like in hotels...super loud A/Cs = white noise. I doubted a white noise device would work because it would be on one side & he on the other. But feeling there was no other solution, I searched for something that didn't have water/ocean/beach or gentle nature sounds. I wanted only white noise. I also didn't want any little lights (on button or otherwise). I also didn't want anything that was wi-fi. I nailed it with the Yogasleep Dohm, my first and ONLY purchase. The on switch goes up or down, which boosts the sound level as well as turning the top dome right or left. It worked like magic from the start! I can't hear him even though he's right next to me! A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.! We're both super grateful!

Love machine although it could have a lower sound setting
I first experienced this machine at a hotel stay one weekend and loved it! So eventually bought my own. All though I don’t remember having any feelings of the sound being too loud , the first 2 nights at home I could not sleep. I placed it far from the bed and its lowest setting was still too loud. I thought about putting it in the bathroom or the hall but felt unhappy about having to do that. However, I went on to read the reviews on other listings for this same machine and found someone who had the same opinion. They did place it in the hall and seemed to like the location. So I decided that maybe it wasnt such a bad idea. Some people felt it was not loud enough! I dont know how loud they want it but the loudness is not a problem. It just doesn’t get quiet enough. I really want this machine because I love the natural fan sound and it is simple to use. So I now set it on a cute little table in the hall for the entire family to enjoy at night. The sound is the only reason for a 4 star. This machine is super cute too!

Natural soothing sound
I really like this sound machine. Compared to a lot of digital sound machines, which I have had, this is an analog machine with a fan inside. You can very easily modulate the sound, but what I like is that it is a smooth, soothing sound. I would definitely recommend this. The size is fairly small and doesn't take up a lot of space.

The best Marpac machine now available in Australia.
This models had been on my radar for a few years but until recently only an old version was available to us Aussies. Nothing beats the mechanically created white noise by this machine! It is far superior to electronically created sounds or "nature" sounds from apps. This is especially suitable for people who want a minimalist bedroom setup, without phones or other gadgets. The delivery was fast and the item arrived just as described. Love the colour!

Useful
I was not sure at first because I am very sensitive to noise but it seems the sound maker works for me. Nothing fancy in the way of variety of sound. Just the fan noise but it really helps me fall asleep.

5+ years later, still works amazing
I've been using this white noise machine for about 5 years now and I'm obsessed. Living in a noisy apartment, I definitely use this machine every night. No signs of it slowing or getting worn out from daily use during all these years. I've travelled with it, recommended it to friends and family, and even bought it for someone as a gift. It's definitely something that takes a few nights of getting used to when you first buy it, but it honestly works wonders to keep me asleep through all of the environmental noises that I'd otherwise have to deal with. I also LOVE that this is a real fan where I can set the pitch and volume simply by turning the shell and dial. I've heard that the digital options can be disruptive due to the loop in the noises. Would highly recommend!!
