The Standard Deviants - Learn Biology

I am planing for an MBA and need to take 2 tests, GMAT and TOEFL. As an international student, I always have problem understanding the reading comprehention passages, especially the terminology in science. I never have any experience in an English speaking classroom in my Bachelor degree. So this type of educational series is the best I ever come across. I don't need to know every single details, but I need the basic understanding of Biology.In my opinion, this Biology DVD is better than a high school classroom in my country. Of course, it's just 1-2 hours lesson, you can't condense every bit of details. But, for it's purpose, it does an exellent job. If you need details, you can buy text book and study from it. This DVD is a supplement, not a replacement.I used to spend hundreds of hours over 3 dictionaries and 3 encyclopedias, trying to find the passages I am reading on the GMAT, but I still understood only 35%. This DVD really helps me understand Biology much better. Sometime, you don't feel like you are studying, they use technique that keep you awakening, laughing and wondering what is next. The songs, graphic, funny stories they use fit very well together. Moreover, you can imagine spending hours reading text that explain the cell cycle, but you can watch this DVD for minutes and get the same understanding of the process in much shorter time. I was actually able to watch this with my daughter (who was 4 years old at the time) and she was cracking up. It has very humorous parts every time it seems to get boring that wake you up. I watched this about 2-3 times and it helped me a lot with my exams. Although there is a lot of unnecessary information that was included and was not needed to be memorized for my exams, it helped me glue everything together cognitive-wise. Good buy.

I like the subject matter, however, the vhs tape is slightly warped when played. Was disappointed with that. But it is what it is. I can’t find the dvd version of this as is, the non 2000s version. But it’ll do for my review of the content matter. Just be aware some vhs may be warped or sound is warped when played. Item arrived quickly.

I remember watching parts of this series in high school whenever our teachers wanted to drive a concept home. So when I saw them on Amazon, I figured it would be a great way to reinforce the books I was reading to study for my CLEP test. I watched this video and added the notes I took while watching to all of my CLEP study materials, and I passed. This was definitely instrumental in my getting a passing score!

Excellent source and fun. Crazy actors making learning interesting, easy to learn and fun. Music, skits, animation all add to the fun of learning. Great for high school and college and beyond.

When I first started watching this, I thought it was way too kiddish to actually be useful. However, I was pretty wrong, its a great basis for study material. If you have trouble remembering the basics of Biology i would definitely get this dvd. I used this along with the AP Biology Cliffnotes, resources on Quizlet, and free-clep-prep.com and was able to pass with a 58!

Purchased for my daughter to use as a refresher. I ordered too early and by the time we attempted to watch the DVD, the return window had closed. The DVD will not play on any of my players.

My school has very few videos. This one does a good job for the introductory units of biology. Their geology tape was even better, but I used this the same week it arrived.
