It isn't bad

One of the things I enjoy about Velvet Acid Christ is that Bryan Erickson is constantly adapting his sound, which means that VAC albums are constantly evolving. I have been listening for a while now, since Calling Ov the Dead, and sometimes it is enjoyable to go back and see just how much VAC has changed. Even the last few albums, The Art of Breaking Apart, Maldire, and this are different. You knew it would be that way from the time Erickson started crowdfunding it with his fans (myself included) until its anticipated release through Metropolis records. That is a good thing, too, because you have multiple albums with listening potential instead of one sound on a bunch of discs spread out through the years.On this album, it is almost a tale of two halves, with the first few songs featuring quest vocals by Sabine Theroni of Psykkle, which is an interesting take on VAC tracks. They are slower, more melodic tones, clocking in at around 85 to 100BPMs. VAC has done slower songs before with great success, too, and I liked the way the tracks come together. On the sixth song, you have some changes, with Bryan singing without distortion being heavily added to his voice, accompanied by a slower beat. It's an interesting change-up that has a good hook and that grows on you as you play it. When you hit track 6, there is a more classic VAC sound, with darker vocals, crisp electronic beats that draw you in, and great lyrical content. I find myself listening to Strychnine (Track 6) and Zalflex (Track 8) quite a bit currently because of the way the beats and vocals mesh, but the entire album has stayed in rotation.This is a strong release and definitely worth picking up. It is different, which is a good thing, adapting as VAC itself adapts over time.

This album is absolutely incredible. Intense, hard, atmospheric. The melodies are sublime. I can't stop listening to it.

If you know and like Velvet Acid Christ you already know what a great artist it is in the wonderful world of industrial and electronic music. Velvet Acid Christ had always an originality in the creations of each of their piece, going from ambient to dance to experimental. For their newest effort, they have combined the best of all the elements that is Velvet Acid Christ. In my opinion, it is their best album to date, it is also their more melodic, each songs has it's own ambience. Sometimes atmospheric, sometimes upbeat and techno, the entire album is a unique universe that captures your senses in an experience you will never forget!

Scheint so als ob VAC fast wieder zu alter Stärke zurückgefunden hat: Einprägsame psychedelische Melodien im Wechsel mit treibenden Rhythmen. Sicher ist alles Meinungssache. Wer - stampf - stampf - mit Gasmaske und Schläuchen bestückt, ohne groß zuzuhören zu immer dem selben Sound abkaspern will, möglichst so dass man nicht viel falsch machen kann, der ist vielleicht enttäuscht.Wer die Band allerdings von Anfang an möchte, der weiß dass VAC immer wieder alles verändert hat mit mehr oder weniger interessantem Output.Dieses Album knüpft wieder die kreativere Zeit seiner ersten Jahre an. Natürlich gab's das auch schon irgendwie, klingt aber dennoch prima.... Ich hoffe ehrlich, er wirft sich nicht wieder was ein. Aber für die aufmerksame Hörerschaft hat sich das Resultat auf jeden Fall gelohnt ;-)

Did not realize VAC released a new album until I started to try and use an amazon.com store credit to download music from their store. On a side note, I was unable to download because I was not an American and did not have an American address and credit card. Rather lame I thought. Anyway after purchasing the album and eventually listening to it I came to classify it as a mellow VAC offering, which is kind of weird in and of itself. This to me was not what I typically remembered VAC to be like; their music had always been very aggressive in nature and filled with a fair bit of anger as well. Along with that there was always some dark over tones throughout the entire offering of the albums as well. This album has the dark over tones, but it is really mellow to me in nature. This is not a bad thing, and I have really enjoyed listening to it that I have been listening to it for the last 2-3 weeks when I am driving. Great offering, just not your typical VAC offering, though this is their first album I have purchased in 15 years.
