THEY WORKED... but it took 2 of them in each of our cars
My wife's new car started shuddering and making horrible noises last weekend. We took it to the mechanic and were informed that there was a big rodents next behind her engine and they had chewed through 2 of the wires. I immediately bought this double set of sound makers, 1 for each car. When I installed them, the following morning I looked under the hood... and there were new rat droppings on top of both of our engines, and new leaves debris that the rats had pulled back into our engine compartments. I figured... our cars have large engine compartments, with tons of nooks and crannies. We should probably have 1 on each side of our engine compartments for our cars. I bought a 2nd pair of these. So we each have 1 on the left and the right side of our cars engine compartments. It has now been 4 straight days without ANY signs whatsoever of rodents under our hoods. No droppings, no debris, foilage... nothing. We are extremely happy. Yes... it took having to have 2 of these for each of our cars, but that's a small price to pay to not have to deal with it again. The only annoying thing is that the battery compartment is on the BACK of these units. So in 40 days when I go to put in fresh batteries... I'm going to have to cut the zip ties and completely remove the units. Replace the batteries, then re-zip tie them back in. It would be MUCH nicer if these held the batteries towards the front of the unit, so that the backing could stay secured in place when you swap batteries. But it's a minor inconvenience compared to the benefits.

Update to changes
So, based on the mostly positive reviews I decided to give these a try. I even went above and beyond to prepare my car, as I had the engine compartment professionally cleaned to get rid of any trace of prior rodent activity. I placed one of these in the engine compartment using the ties, and the other sits in the cubby near the gear shift. For the first couple of months, I didnโt see any activity. However, one day I am driving and my odometer stops working. Then the check engine light comes on followed by the steering indicator light. And about the same time I lose power steering. Took it to our mechanic and sure enough, rodents had chewed through several wires causing the problem. Fortunately it only cost $270.00 to fix. I say fortunately, because our Toyota Corolla had $2,500.00 in rodent damage about seven years prior. Needless to say, these Ultrasonic Rat Repellants didnโt do jack! 8/23/22 I have an update and in turn, I am raising my rating. So, after they didn't work as described, I decided to try them with the sound on (in Test mode). And guess what? After 3 weeks of parking it in the same spot, they did not eat the wires again. In fact, I see no evidence of them being in the engine compartment since the last episode. I will continue to use them with the sound on. If they didn't work for anyone else in the Ultrasonic mode, then try them with the sound on. It has worked for me so far.

LOVE these
Before ordering, we had no idea if these would work. Based on research, it's a toss-up. These and a few other gadgets like this have been installed and on 24/7 throughout our house for several weeks, and the number of mice seen has gone from one (or heaven forbid, two) a week to zero. None in the traps or caught by our cats. The only thing changed is adding these electronic repellers. Our cats are disappointed at the reduction in play toys, but we are not and neither is our pest control guy. When we set these up, he couldn't say if they'd work or not, but even he is impressed that there has been a major reduction in mice even though it's freezing outside and the mouse population should have gone up inside as mice seek shelter from the weather. We live in the country, so mice are a given. We have cats and a dog, so we don't want to use any kind of poison since our cats have gotten ahold of a couple of mice. If the mice are poisoned and the cat eat them, it would probably be too late for vet care before we realized what happened. Of course we take all the preventative steps we can like not leaving any pet or people food out, putting out pet safe mice deterrent, etc. There are baited snap traps all over the attic, basement, closets, etc. but mice would still sneak into the house. Even our pest control guy said that without poison baiting, it would be a constant battle since mice can get into a home through the teeniest openings and a house in a place where they have a lot of natural predators is a spot mice will seek out for safety. We live across from a nature preserve with several species of predator birds such as eagles and hawks as well as coyotes, foxes, and such. These little battery powered units are easy to operate. We just had to set a reminder on the calendar to change out the batteries every five to six weeks. None of uur pets are not bothered by the lights or noises put out through the speakers. They're also small enough to be put almost anywhere, and are not intrusive in the least. So far they have been amazing in our constant battle against mice and even a random squirrel, and we highly recommend.

Invest in a device that only connects to the car battery.
I bought 3. The devices turn off when convenient to them even when the batteries are fresh. Ordered on Feb 26th now March 11th i've noticed activity and wasted $120 for this non-sense garbage.

Okay it is still flashing away after a few months and seems to be working or the cats have picked up their game. Non intrusive in engine bay and cable tied ( zip tied๐ฑ๐ท) to solid panel section.
