Well worth the cost. I have a 5 acre dog fence. I agree with other reviewers. I set it up exactly as said in the instructions then followed the instructions to track the underground wire. 10 min later i was splicing the broken wire using the included splice hardware Great product (and i dont say that often)

The locator, with the grounding the wire kit set up, was very easy to use and found several breaks in the wire. Once I fixed the detected breaks with the gel-filled capsules, the controller stopped beeping and my dog could be out in our yard safe once again. However, the locator was not able to detect breaks near the house from chipmunks nawing through the wire - there was just enough of a connection that it was not a complete break. That has always been a problem and I knew I had to dig around my front stoop to find them which I did and fixed them with the gel-filled capsules.

Worked as advertised! Found the wire break within 10 minutes of set up! Fixed as quickly with repair kit! Dog fence is back in service, though our dog is not as happy about the repair as I am!

Worked as it should. Pretty easy to find break in wire. My only complaint would be the wire that came with the kit. Whoever the person that coiled it up needs to be hit on the head with a tack hammer. What a mess it was. Petsafe should have spent the extra 25 cents to put it on a roll or something else.

Not worth the hassle to attempt to find problem. I am handicapped and had my daughter come from NC to VA to try to find the problem in my invisible's fence. She can conquer all computer problems and even works for a leading dog food company visiting veterinarians in 4 states and leading Pet Stores in her territory. We could not locate the problem nor had anyone dug to sever or break the line…… too much of a problem. Not worth the aggravation to deal with!

I would give this 10 stars if I could! If you have an in ground fence you need this. It’s not if it’s going to break, it’s when. I found my break in just a few minutes. I have used other methods to find a break and they were very time consuming and back breaking. Everything about this kit is great. Even the extending stick thing is long enough for me and I’m 6’5” tall. I know it’s pricey, but just get it. It’s sooooo worth it. There’s a video on YouTube to show how to use it. Just watch it and follow the simple instructions.

Perfect to locate the problem and simple to use

This device is awesome. Works very well & I easily found the line break in my perimeter wire. As a FYI, I used it to find the break in my AutoMower (robotic lawnmower) perimeter wire. Saved me hours and hours of work. Great engineering & user interface. Pete

We install remote mowers and through the winter the mice had eaten a customers ground wire. We hooked this unit up and with very small learning curve we found the breaks in the ground wire. Awesome little unit.

This product worked perfectly to help fix my in ground fence. I originally was hesitant as the price seemed steep... but it took me under an hour to get the break located and repaired. Considering the age of the system (18 years), I imagine I may be using this break detector again at some point. It's worth the investment! Recommended :)

If you have breaks in the wire this will find them. We ran our wire around a fence. Not underground. Who does that. Found the break in hours. We had looked for days

**Update**: The second year my fence developed a break I set about setting this product up for use. When I plugged it in, a loud pop was heard and the unit began smoking and growing hot. Literally caught fire in my hands. Sadly, there is no other method for detecting wirebreaks in this fence. So I have to order another one. Angry face. I ordered this product as my in-ground fence has developed a frustrating series of line breaks. I tried the AM radio method of locating the breaks on my 5 acres, but it wasn't working for me, so 150$ later here we go. It's relatively simple to set up and use. Honestly, I wonder why it's not included with the original kit, as I'm pretty sure every owner of this system is going to experience hidden line breaks over the years. After following some ghost transmissions for awhile, I did eventually locate my break, so kudos to the system for working mostly as advertised. The detector stick (my kids call it the minesweeper) did stop working briefly for no apparent reason but then started working again a few minutes later. 3 stars, mostly due to price and it should really be a part of the original in-ground fence kit, not a pricey addition for something that will definitely happen.
