The ORCATORCH D530 is a solidly built and simple to use dive torch. This review is being written after using the torch on 10 dives with depths ranging from 22-100 feet, where it performed flawlessly. All of the photos included in the review were shot using the D530 as the non-ambient light source. As you can see from the photos, it emits a crisp, cool, whitish light that does a great job of cutting through the water column and into dark spaces. It can be a little harsh for photography, but with the light on the low setting and angled properly it can provide an appropriately warm light for a subject (see artificially lit Albino Leaf Scorpion Fish photo). This light is perfect as a compact primary dive light for recreational dives or a secondary/back up light for more advanced dives. The battery life seems very long with the included Orcatorch battery and I never experienced dimming even on 3 tank dive days with the light running often. This light gets used as a primary now when I do not require a higher power primary light, and the Orcatorch D530 has replaced my previous secondary light as it is smaller, yet delivers more lumens and it's light temperature seems to allow for more penetration. Great little light, highly recommended.

I purchased this light right before a trip to the Bahamas. I bought it primarily as a backup light to my expensive bulky canister light. But quickly found it to be a better option to use as a primary light. Simply because of the fact it was small. Easy to store. And just as bright as my primary. The narrow beam made it great for cutting through the water like a scissors through paper. After reading multiple reviews online I figured I would bite the bullet and see what this little light had to offer. When I received the light in the mail I was quick to open the package. It was very well packaged and I noticed that the light was very well built. The aluminum housing, the rechargeable battery, the extra lube and o-ring were a bonus. The light came to me charged but I threw a charge on it just to be safe as I was leaving for my trip. Once we did our first night dive I realized I might as well have left my canister at home. Not once did I use my canister light. I chose this little guy as my primary for the trip. It was everything I had needed and not once the whole trip did I need to charge the battery. I did a total of three night dives for close to an hour a piece. I couldn't believe how nice this light functioned. Between dives I stored it in my BCD pocket. Tucked away, yet easily accessible. I was a little concerned that the salt water might have some effect on the light. I am usually a freshwater diver so salt worries me at times. But to my amazement it worked flawlessly without any issues. At depth or out of the water. I could see this light being used for many things. It's rugged design. Bright LEDs. And size make it a very versatile light. I will be purchasing another light simply to have as a backup to my backup. Never in a million years did I think something so powerful could come in something so small. I would highly recommend this to every diver to have in their arsenal of equipment. I will definitely be looking at other orca lights in the future. This is a brand that is going to make it big in the diving industry. Guaranteed.

This light is great. I purchased this light for a Monterey Bay dive trip. We just finished. Anyone that knows Monterey knows you can have decent days and terrible days with regard to visibility. This was a terrible day. Visibility was around 10'. The OrcaTorch D530 fit the bill perfectly. The OrcaTorch D530 helped out immensely. It was overcast as well as poor visibility, so having a light was paramount. This thing throws some light. The 1200 lumens and narrow beam pattern help to penetrate less clear water like we have in California. With more stuff in the water, a wide beam would get blown out. Not in this case. The D530 cuts right through it. A few bullet points: - I have a ScubaPro light as well as the OrcaTorch TD01. I used those most of the time. Not now. The OrcaTorch will become the primary and ScubaPro will become the backup. This is for recreation only. If I was cave diving, a cannister light would be the way to go. The TD01 will still stay on my head as well. Never have too much light in some conditions. - The D530 has a quick and easy button for turning on and off. A single push and the light comes on at the brightest setting (1300 lumens). Push again and lumens drop to 380 lumens. Push a third time and the light turns off. My ScubaPro requires the front lense housing to be turned to turn the light on and off. That requires two hands. The OrcaTorch can be used with one hand, which is very nice. - I did not have any time at all where the light accidentally came on by itself. I could have used the safety lock feature (hold power button for 5 seconds to prevent accidental activation). This was not needed. If you are going to carry this in your dive bag wit the battery installed, it would be a good idea to activate this feature. - I love the use of 18650 batteries. I have a bunch of those for other devices, so being able to have a few on hand for multiple dives would be great. - Similar to other OrcaTorches that I own, the 18650 battery has a USB plug so no separate charger required (cable comes with the light). - The spare parts are a huge plus. I store the light in my OrcaTorch TD01 case. Keeps the light well organized for storage or transport. - Shipping was great and the box arrived in excellent condition. - This would also make a great non-SCUBA light. It is all metal and very bright. I would have zero issues carrying this in a go bag or on a camping trip. Piece of mind knowing it is waterproof in case I end up in the water at some point.

I got the Orcatorch D530 from Outdoor Equipment Expert as a primary light for my dive buddy. It feels solid. Multiple O-rings seem like it'd be hard to get a hair across all of them at once, especially since the light screws closed. Two brightness settings. Full power lasted our entire dive; the status LED was still green at the end. The lower setting is still plenty bright for signaling and critter-finding, and should last an entire day. The status LED on the switch is very useful for knowing how much battery power is left. If we notice the battery is getting low, we can drop to the lower brightness so the battery would make it through the rest of the dive. That's better than lights without a status indicator, which can get very dim or cut off suddenly during a dive. It'll be a great light for travel. It's lighter weight than my old light. And the battery which comes with it has a built-in standard micro-B USB port for charging, so I don't need to pack a charger or even a special cable. If you have a USB power pack for your phone, you can use it to top off the battery between dives without needing an AC plug. The battery has LEDs in it to indicate charging or done. You can see from the photos that vis was hazy and green during our dive. I could only see my dive buddy 10' away, but I could see the D530's beam from at least twice that, so we didn't worry about getting separated. The orange rubber band around the back end is another nice touch. Usually, if you drop a dive light when it's turned off, it's gone (so, um, don't do that). Small black thing in a mostly-black ocean. But if you dropped this one, you might be able to spot the orange band on the bottom. So, overall, it's quite a nice little light. No complaints.

This is an awesome dive light. No need to carry a separate charger because the charger is in the battery! The red & green lights are big & bright to let you know if your charging or ready to go. Other lights I’ve had the light is no larger than a pin prick & hard to see. I plug in my battery before bed & it’s charged in the am. The small charging cable is perfect to use with my power bank so I can also charge it during my surface interval between dives. However I will be looking into purchasing a second battery for the days I will do 5 dives in one day. I don’t know that I can keep it charged for that many dives in one day. It would be nice to have the option of purchasing a 2nd battery with the light. The lock feature for the light not turning on is very useful. Since I pack by light days before I get into the water it’s great to know my light won’t die on my first dive because it turned on in my bag. For me this will be my primary light when diving with my GoPro. A downfall to this light is it does not have SOS mode. As a Wreck & Night Diver SOS mode is something I need my primary light to have should trouble arise. I found the light nice & bright & easy to use when Lobster hunting. Easy & quick to turn off to not scare the lobsters away. Or dazzle the Spanish lobsters with the dimmer outer ring of the light at night so I can get them with my net. But I was hunting with buddies who would provide me with light. A wrist strap would be nice so I could hunt & capture without assistance. I did consider the D550 but because the batteries do not have the charger built in I opted for this light. I’m very happy with it & I have already recommended it to friends. My dive club will be learning about this light at our next meeting too. 09-23-19 Update. Used this light on my Sharks Tooth hunting adventure. We dove for an hour and a half on our first tank and I found quite a few teeth, Stingray Grinding plates & barbs and some yet to be identified items. The visibility is always very low a good day is 6 feet of horizontal viz. As you can see in the video I've attached, the light has a narrower bright beam than my other light. I liked that as it allowed me to focus on just the area in my beam for finding my treasures. I switched to my other light for our 2nd tank as this light ran out of juice.

I bought this flashlight for looking around my property more than any kind of water use. It works really well. It has a strong button. Its durable and made from strong Aluminium. I love its smaller size. It is incredibly bright. It shows colors well. It is easy to adjust how bright it is. It just has 1 button and a high and low setting.

I just tried out the D530 and wow! It’s a true 1300 Lumens light, no exaggeration - very bright and a narrow 8 degree beam angle. I did a quick walk around before getting it wet. The light uses the triple oring setup so guaranteed never to flood. Also comes with a handy wrist lanyard so it will never get lost. The on/off button is super easy to use - high, low, then off. The titanium button is raised just enough to make it easy to find, but not so much that it’s annoying. Once it’s on there’s a reassuring green light to show the charge level. After a few minutes to top off the charge with the handy USB to micro USB cable plugged directly into the battery, I was ready to go. Nice not to have to worry about a bulky charger for traveling. The light also works with a normal 18650 so I can swap out if needed. A test run lasted 50 minutes on high before reducing power and the green light changed to yellow. The battery charged back to full in 3 hours. I’m a tech diver and wasted no time putting it through the paces. After two dives totaling 2.5 hours using the D530 intermittently throughout, it was still running strong. No signs of leakage or stuck buttons like I’ve seen with cheaper lights after I took it to122 feet. I compared it to the Light Monkey 32VF and while not quite as bright, it outperformed this $1100 light. The narrower beam penetrated the water much better, especially when some silt got stirred up. I also compared it with the $1500 Halcyon Focus 2 and it’s almost as bright. Considering it’s less than 10% of the price for the Focus, it compared very well. This light is going to be with me every dive. I feel good about the reliability of the Cree LED and the overheat protection - important considerations with a light this powerful. I recently purchased the Orcatorch D530 as a backup light for overhead environment diving. I prefer a light I can use hands free for my primary light, so I didn't use this light much. I liked this one because it was roughly equivalent to my regular "every dive" light. I always carry a 1200-ish lumen light on me. Wether it's in my pocket, or in my hand I always have a light. Something compact is nice for OC dives, to toss in a pocket, or hang from a D-ring. This light is nice and compact, yet functional with 2 brightness settings. My regular light has 4 settings, but that is a little overkill in my opinion. High or low is what I'm usually going for depending on the conditions. The thing that attracted me to this light was the lock feature. I have gotten out of the water in the desert with my other light for a surface interval and had the light turn on in my pocket. The D530 will lock if you hold the button till the light flashes twice. These 1200-1300 lumen lights get hot in your pocket if you accidentally turn them on. I travel a lot, so a light I can lock is nicer than a light I have to remove the battery from. In my pictures, you will see the light on the right is my old Big Blue, trusty AL1200...which does not lock. The Orcatorch D530 on the left is a lower price offering with great build quality and a lockout feature and easily the brightness equivalent. I would suspect this light's switch would need to be flushed out after a salt water dive, like any other light, but I recently dove to 250 ffw and the light continues to work. It is rated below that, but switches can be a problem at those depths. I did not have a switch problem, however in those conditions this light is for backup only and not generally turned on. I didn't get a chance to try it, but next time I'm diving in the Great Lakes, I will! I have a couple of Orcatorch lights now, and will likely get another as they come out with newer generations with more power and features. A side note. This light came with an 18650 Li-Ion battery with a USB micro connector cable to USB A type connection. When lights come with chargers, they tend to be bulky and regular electrical plug connectors. I have been depending upon USB type adapters for some time when traveling, and I like this light-weight option. I have seen these batteries before, but now Orcatorch seems to be shipping with them, and I'm a fan. A few cables, versus bulky chargers is welcome for me.
