Great mic for YouTubers and family videos
The Comica CVM VM 10II captures great audio and when you’ve got your camera or recording device set properly you’ll be pleased with the improvement in your video’s audio. The kit comes with the mic set in a metal housing, a suspension mount with a hot shoe mount to mount on your camera, a foam wind muff plus a furry dead cat windmuff for wind suppression on windy days. I use the foam mount pretty much all the time unless the day is particularly blustery. On those days, the furry windscreen does a good job at eliminating the frustrating wind sounds from my audio track. The fact that Comica includes the furry wind cover can add $10 - $15 dollars to your total cost compared to other brands that don’t include the cover. The kit also includes connection wires for both cameras and recorders, and smartphone. Use the TRRS plug inserted into your smartphone. Use the TRS plugs when connecting to cameras or recorders. The CMV VM 10II is a rugged little shotgun mic with great sound quality. Keep in mind that the mic is only part of the sound issue. Experiment a little with your devices’ sound settings to get the sound you like best. I find manual settings at about half the scale is best for me. Auto mic settings often produce a sound that is too hot and clipped. That’s not the mic’s fault. Here’s a little background on why you might choose this mini shotgun mic instead of some other type of microphone. The primary reasons to use a mini shotgun mic on your camera is to isolate your mic from the camera’s own sounds and to employ a better quality mic than the little pin hole mic that’s on the camera. DSLR cameras and others with motorized autofocus lenses produce a buzz while focusing that your camera’s mic will likely pick up. That is certainly the case with my Nikon. Mounting a mic on the hot shoe adapter on top of the camera provides enough isolation that the motor noise is not picked up. As to the second point, even an inexpensive mini shotgun mic is likely of better quality and have better sound gathering capabilities than your camera’s pin hole mic. Even with my Sony Handicam that has a large quality mic built in, I find the sound pickup pattern of a mini shotgun mic does better in reducing sounds from behind me than the omnidirectional mic on the camera. Mini shotgun mics are very good when gathering ambient sounds such as the sounds of a crowd at a sporting event while providing some additional pickup punch to the front of the mic. These mics are also good when recording dialog without the complications of adding wired or wireless mics to the mix. There is a caveat to this, however. The mic needs to be pretty close to the speaker. I mean pretty close as in 18 to 24 inches. When the mic is further than that, ambient sounds can cause the speakers words to sound distant or lost in the background. When used properly and set correctly with the camera, I believe you’ll be very pleased with this little mini shotgun mic.

Worth the price
This microphone is definitely worth investing in. Audio quality of my videos is always great, and the dead cat wind cover does wanders. Would highly recommend this.

It's small, it's affordable, and it picks up sound!
An excerpt of the conclusion from our published story: "It was a pretty impressive mic for how small it is, and the small price tag as well. It doesn’t beat out the larger brands with big price tags of course, but it seems to hold its own within its own range of cost. It has a lot of volume to it, and picks up a lot. It picks up a little more of the room than we’d like, but that seems to be a bit common for this price range. It comes with a lot of great accessories, so you are ready to go as soon as you open it, and it functions with all sorts of recording devices, covering both mobile devices and cameras alike. With a little post edit, you can really clean things up and make something out of this mic, making it a great entry level option for those that aren’t wanting to spend too much just yet." We wound up giving the mic an 8/10 (translating to 4/5). Not a bad place to end up. Great audio mic for DSLR's, Mirrorless Cameras and Smartphones. JUST BUY IT YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!
So I already have the Rode Micro which I really like. I compare this mic side by side the sound is exactly the same. I was surprised since Rode is a great brand and costs more. Here are my pros and cons. Pros: I like the build a lot more than the Rode. It is sturdy and doesn't get in the way of my lens. The rode always flops up and down which is frustrating. The Comica stays sturdy which I love. Also the wind protector fits on really nice. The one that came with the Rode is loose and falls off all the time. They also supply another mic cover which is perfect for audio in door and removes any pop sounds from your voice. I was also surprised that they included a smartphone audio cable so I can use it with my iPhone. I also love that you don't need a battery for it. Cons: Honestly I really don't have anything bad to say about it. It is very solid and wish I got this one over the Rode when I was choosing before. So if your considering a mic for your DSLR's, Mirrorless Cameras and Smartphones this is a great one. I recommend it over the Rode Micro in every way.

works ok, but not the best
Having mixed reaction on using this. The audio is a bit weak for my needs. Also the plastic cold shoe mount tends to sag with the rat head cover on. SO much so the mic was visible in the camera. Had to move it to a side position. does include cables for phones, camera and laptops and the case is very nice.

Bang for your money!
First, i'd like to say i've had nothing but amazing and quality items from Comica! I own the CVM-V30 PRO for when i have time to set up my shots and that mic is awesome. It does require 2 aaa batteries but they go for over 100 hours of use which is no biggie to me... but the CVM-VM10II has just about the same outstanding audio quality without requiring any batteries at all, just power from the camera. Perfect for run and gun stuff or not having a big footprint when on location and trying to stay lowkey. there is minimal low noise and that's important to me. i'm not big on boosting the inner gain up in body of the camera so i'd rather do it in post and the mic has been doing an outstanding job so far. absolutely zero complaints and i'd recommend this mic to anyone in need of something small, inconspicuous that delivers the same sound quality you would from a rode. Love it!

Just as good as the Rode VideoMicro but cheaper
I have been using this microphone for the past 2 weeks and I have to say that I am pretty impressed. I have been using it in comparison to my Rode VideoMicro and I have to say the sound quality is equal to that of the Rode. I did a full review on my YouTube channel, Brian The Camera Guy, where I did a head-to-head comparison of this Comica CVM-VM10 vs the Rode VideoMicro. I really liked that this microphone had extra gain and achieved a louder sound using a lower volume from the camera. Meaning, I was able to set my Sony a6400 volume level to 7 instead of putting it at 13 when using the Rode. I also liked how the Comica's deadcat (windmuff) was a little further away from the shoe mount. This was really nice because the fur of the deadcat did not get stuck in my hot shoe. I am not sure if I put the deadcat on properly but it did not block as much of the wind as the Rode VideoMicro. Despite that it did do a great job of blocking almost all the wind and the quality of the audio was still quite useable.

Not recommended for filming IMSA sportscar racing!
I bought this to take along with me to the 12 Hours of Sebring this year because I wanted to record the audio specifically of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. The recording of the Aston's flyby sounded like it was underwater. The big V12 must have exceeded the decibel limit of this cheap microphone. Actually none of the other cars sounded good either. Not even the muffled turbocharged engines. Didn't make a difference whether the microphone was hooked to my phone or my digital camera. My phone's built in microphone recording sounded 100x better. Wouldn't recommend for sportscar racing or probably anything loud really.

The Perfect Shotgun Mic For Your SmartPhone
As a video reviewer and someone that do a lot of videos on the move, I know the important of having not only a good video but also good sound with it. I think most of us know the feeling where you done a great recording and then find out the sound isn't so great. I never really thought about using an external microphone for my phone until someone suggested it. So after looking around and seeing what was available on my budget, I decided to once again go with the Comica. It was really no brainier and an easy decision as I already own another shotgun microphone from Comica for my bigger DSLR, so I thought why not try the smaller Shotgun mic for smartphones and I'm so please I did because once again, I've ended up with a cracking microphone and one that brings my smartphone recording up to that next level. It has some cracking features like, all metal microphone body, Super Cardioid pickup batter, 80HZ~16000HZ frequency range, sensitivity -34±3db and it only weights in at 34.2g, so it is very light. Included with the microphone is: 1x mic shock-absorbing stand, 1x mic windscreen, 1x mic wind muff, 1x 3.5mm smartphone audio cable and 1x camera audio cable. The microphone is also self powered by the device that you are using, which is great as you don't have to worry about batteries running out in the middle of a recording. The microphone feels well built and very solid being all metal, the mount is more plastic but it doesn't feel cheap at all and is very solid but flexible at the same time to help remove some of them vibrations that i could pickup. Overall, I'm very happy and impressed with this and it had taken my videos to the next level on my smartphone, now that I'm recorded better sound.

Fantastic discrete small vlogging mic
I was looking for a small sized microphone and came across the VM10 II. I figured for the money it was worth checking out. Well, now I've checked it out. It comes with indoor and outdoor wind screens, 2 sets of cables (one dedicated for camera use and the other for smartphones with built in audio jacks). The only thing missing is a small case to carry everything with you. With that said, this mic is so small, it would actually fit in your pocket. The sound and build quality was much higher than I was expecting. It is a premium piece of equipment. The only downside is when using it on something that has a low quality pre-amp, you'll REALLY notice. One other thing, if you're trying this on a phone that does NOT have a dedicated audio jack, don't expect the mic to work. It's not a fault with the mic, but has to do with the multi-jack (lightening and USB-C) and the smartphone video camera protocol. On my voice recorder app, the mic works fine. On the video camera app, it won't use the mic, only the built in audio. But again, not a fault of the mic. If they had included a clip to mount to a smartphone, then this would have been the ultimate package, but they don't include that. Only the hot shoe mount which is built into the shock mount. If you're looking for a budget option to the big brands and you want something small and discrete? I think you've found it.
